The Emphefnin

Do any of you remember my old fursona, Zilei? I didn't think so. Anyway, Zilei was a rather strange character, short and stocky, and overall, round. Well, I took his species, but turned it into something a bit more realistic. Let me go into further detail:

The Emphefnin, thought to be extinct as of 2600 BC, were found deep within the Amazon Rain Forest, as well as in Grasslands in Africa. It seems that this creature has two sub-species, the Inknik(of the Amazon Rain Forest) and the Emprin(of the African Savannah).

The Inknik, as shown above, are known for their ink-spot like markings on their hindquarters. They are mostly all one color, such as black, white, or reddish brown, with greyish green, blue, white, brown, or grey markings. The same color of their markings covers their horns and tails.

The Emprin, not pictured, have neater, fluffier wings, and are vibrant colors, such as blues, greens, yellows, oranges, pinks, and purples. Rarely, some are reddish brown, with vibrant splotches of random color on their bodies. Their tails are also randomly bright and vivid, while their wings are often a dark and uninviting color, as well as their horns. Many have been found to have stripes adorning their backs and muzzles.

In both sub-species of Emphefnin, the creatures have raptor-like builds, with dog-like hind paws and strange front claws, which appear as one but are actually composed of two toes each. In their youth, Emphefnin do not yet have long back legs, so that the lengths of their front and hind sets of legs match. Therefore, when young, Emphefnin run on all fours.

Emphefnin are found in large groups, usually with a strong male and female to lead them. These groups are called "Niks" and the leaders are called the "Prime Male" and "Prime Female." The children are usually kept well hidden from enemies, and these creatures are swift, always on the lookout for the mentioned.

The following animals are predators of the Emphefnin:

Lions
Tigers
Panthers
Clouded Leopards

The following are not predators, but are still extremely dangerous:

Rhinoceros
Zebra
Gazelle(only in stampedes)
Elephants

The following animals are prey of the Emphefnin:

Rodents
Giraffes
Zebras
Gazelles
Birds
Tapirs

Emphefnin also eat fruit and in their youth, insects.

Emphefnin are rarely taken down by predators, because of their great speed, but other things have often caused the death of these beautiful creatures, due to lack of ability to fly, inability to swim, and immense fear of reptilian creatures.

Though appearing perky and animated, their eyes, when examined closely, are found to have EXTREMELY lightly colored pupils, large and very capable of absorbing light, giving this creature excellent vision. In a related matter, the lack of ears was also discussed, but it was soon found that their horns provided them with that ability.

Despite their calm and gentle appearance, Emphefnin are very hostile and quick to anger. Dangerous indeed, very few have been captured for experimentation, and even so, those few were known to have temper problems, constantly kicking and gnawing with their sharp fangs at the bars of their cages which they were held captive.
