Came across some info on GEICO today that I never knew before.

G overnment
E mployees
I nsurance
CO rporation

Employees of the federal government are rewarded with stock in GEICO as part of their salary. Interesting that the people who make laws decided to make one saying you have to have auto insurance, and they just also happen to own a giant company in that industry. evilb

They've been around forever....the heavy advertising is somewhat recent.
Years ago it was not available in some states like NJ.....probably because the giants like Allstate were paying off the state politicians to keep them out.

As far as I can find in a quick search, while the G may stand for Government, it is not owned by the government ... it was a company started with a specific group of people in mind, government employees, and thus the name.

Yeah after doing a lil more research to double check my statement I discovered that GEICO is mostly owned buy none other than the billionaire Warren Buffet, the companys main finances came from Berkshire Hathaway holdings and where as the company itself is private it has gained much government favor by making government employees the main aim of their services, as well as large amounts of lobbying and political contributions. obamadance1

Yes, Mr. Buffay has proved to be a "fairy weather friend" at the very best!!! He can afford to take risks that 99.999999% of the rest of us can't and he can say whatever he wishes without fear of reprisal. Whoopty-flippin-d00000, a lot of good that does the rest of us!! Did you know that Progressive Insurance is owned by a John Kerry supporter? He's probably butt-buddies with the billionaire Boy-George Sora55 who helped purchase the Barry Obama-0sama-pajama-mama-yomama-Bi(n-la)den election victory. Just in case you're wondering, I won't be switching to Progressive anytime soon, the name alone makes my sphincters pucker like a vise... and then Curly said, "Vice? I don't have any vices, I'm as pure as the driven snow." and Moe replied, "Yeah? (DOINK, on Curly's bald head with a shovel) Well, you drifted!" beer
