I may regret saying this but it looks like they put all the fixes in on version 3.8 and are now pushing it out in updates. I think you still have an option to accept or not. Let's see what happens in tazland!

Engima I don't think I'll get any bonus points on this. A guess would be Hellsing. My anime watching has suffered lately. I'm too busy working my volunteer job for a ... get this ... ANIME CONVENTION! I'm Assistant to the Director of Guest Relations for METROCON. It's amazing how much preparation goes into putting on an amazing 3 day con. Edit: Ok, so I did Google it now - KITE???? WTF ... not my cup of tea. Song apparently by Velvet Acid Christ - I'm pretty sure the song is Pretty Toy. Again, not my cup of tea. I'm more into Abney Park - but then STEAMPUNK is the theme of this years METROCON! I've put some awesome costumes together already.

Both are right. I've actually never seen Kite, I know of the quote because of the song Pretty Toy (very disturbing video unless you like horror movies) by Velvet Acid Christ. Edited by Enigma Deadsouls, Feb 22 2009, 12:32 AM.

Holy crap for carp ... don't log in for a day and look what happens .. LOL Anyhow, tried CIS 3.5 and got the same lock down ... but for some stupid reason the uninstall did not remove all the components. I was trying to trouble shoot the dang thing, 1st I uninstalled the firewall and got an alert saying now defense+ was not functioning properly. I was still not able to get connected, so I did the permanent disable on that. After the reboot, still no network connectivity, so I decided to to uninstall the AV and the rest of Comodo. It said uninstall was complete, but after the reboot still no network connectivity. So I figure the registry needs some cleaning, but noooo joy there, as when I try to install it says I don't have the rights to do this. Tried logging in as Admin and in Safemode, but got the same. I did not feel like trouble shooting anymore, so out comes the Install Disks ... again. But before I installed XP Pro again, I install Sun's OS Solaris. http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/ Not a bad OS, real good driver base ... but was a very slow on the live CD, the complete install helped, but it was still slow on this old XP1800 w/ 512 MB RAM. But Seriously, if you are looking for a OS to play with ... this may be just for you. It is a Unix based OS and desktop looks very similar to linux. So anyhow, I'm done playing test dummy for Comodo on this machine ... I settled for PCTools free firewall w/ Threatfire and free AV. It should be sufficient for the kids going to Webkins, Toon Disney and what not. |

Anyway...back at the ranch....... I ran around and installed Comodo all over the house on different XP systems (Pro, Home, Laptops,Towers,etc.). Both 3.5 and then 3.8.....no problems....and I really tried to screw it up. Do you think it could be a driver conflict w/ some hardware on that particular machine? Not that it's the end of the world...you've got it covered anyway!

Yea, it has got to be something with that machine ... I did uninstall the wireless card, but Comodo still stated the FW was not functioning properly. It's weird, and I probably would have spent more time on it, if I had not spent the last 2 days digging up my septic tank. It's the 2nd time since we bought the house in 2005 that we have had problems ... and the house was only built in 2004. But it really does not surprise me, the rate at which they were throwing these things up was astonishing. From ground break to move in, most houses were being put up in under 3 months. The inspectors could not keep up, so they would do spot inspections .... inspect a small portion of the development ... and if those houses past, they would sign off on the whole subdivision. Anyways, I decided that I ain't gonna have to dig it up again, so I installed risers on the tank. So now if I need access, all I have to do is take the cap off. Had a good laugh with the septic guy that came out to do the pump out ... I at a desk all day taking phone calls from store having technical issues ... he drives around pumping septic tanks all day .... but basically we do the same thing ... trouble shoot crap all day!!! |

It's really frustrating installing programs or updates and every freakin thing on earth wants to install some sort of tool bar. What is it with these tool bars? Going to the search engine isn't good enough anymore so they want you to have it right in your browser? Take up more space on my hard drive for that are you kidding me? This is madness. I bet if I installed all of them without unchecking them I wouldnt even be able to see web pages, my whole display would just be toolbars. scary.Anyway the real purpose of this post was to add to the list of free stuff. Here is a list of some of the software I am currently preparing to test out: a-squared (2 apps : av free and hijack free) PC Tools Spyware Doctor Also Windows Doctor 2.0.. but uhh that one is not supposed to be free |
