Angel from the underworld or Devil from paradise
My son is about to enter his senior year of high school and will be 18 in December. The opportunity came up via a "friend of a friend" to buy a car for him that was just too sweet to pass up. How's a 1994 Acura Legend Coupe L as a first time car for a teen age boy? Yes, it's a standard transmission - not automatic. The boy now has to learn how to drive a shift. geeksquad

The guy we bought it from is the original owner and almost all the miles are highway (drove from Northern Florida to North Carolina for many years for his job). It does have over 200K on the engine, but he has always kept up on maintenance. The mechanic I took it to for an evaluation said the only thing we need to fix right away is a leaking CV boot. Everything else passed inspection. Just before offering it to us he put all new brakes, calipers, Optima battery and new front tires on it. I will need to have the CV boot replaced and buy two tires for the rear - but that's it! Cost? $3k. Amazingly enough the insurance isn't that bad either - he's got the good student discount as well as drivers ed under his belt. It will only be about $104 a month (which he has to pay - Mom's no fool).

Talk about a sweet ride. I'm thinking about giving him my 2003 Mercury Sable LS station wagon with 56k on it and taking this peppy little puppy on myself! All leather, sunroof and a 6 speed tranny ... I think I'm in love! :luv:

I'll post pics when I take some. For now here's a picture from a site that just happens to have his exact car - dark green with cream colored leather interior, factory tinted windows and sunroof! It's so pretty. 1994 Acura Legend Coupe L

When in Doubt... Google it. Google Everything. I don't care if you have to type a f***ing essay into the search box. The first thing they teach you at school should be Google it. They wouldn't have to teach you much else.

Yeah, it's definitely a nice car - too bad he refuses to learn how to drive a stick. It's up for sale now on car.com. Lot of people have called wanting to buy it but no one has any money.

We, as a tribe, voted and we are going to have to revoke his man card.

Seriously I hate driving anything automatic or "power" this and that. It's all just extra weight, another part to fail, and take away all feeling/feedback. I'll take a car with a manual transmission, non-power steering, no ABS (and if possible no power brake booster), no airbags (five point harnesses work better anyway), hand crank windows, etc. Pretty much the only luxury I like is A/C. I have a radio/cd/mp3/etc in my car, but I never use it unless parked and waiting on someone. I drive an $800 91 Toyota Corolla beater. It gets good fule mileage (When someone other than me drives it. What? You mean to tell me accelerating WOT is bad for fuel mileage?), I don't care if someone hits it in a parking lot, and the only power anything it has is brakes (but they still offer pretty good feedback for what they are).

Something I learned recently that may aid in teaching someone how to drive a MT car. When teaching someone how the clutch functions, have them on a flat road or maybe slightly down hill if the car has a tall first or weak engine, have them put it in first, then have them slip the clutch slowly and get the car moving without ever touching the throttle. Sure this is hard on the clutch, but it should help them understand the engagement point and how power is transfer from the engine to the gearbox and then to the wheels. I haven't tried this method myself when teaching as I just learned it in a discussion recently on how to teach people a MT, but it really makes sense to me. The next person I teach I will use this method. I taught Robert a MT in my old Chevy Sprint and he did pretty well (didn't do so well on the KE100). If you son learns how to drive a MT he will love it and be heel-toe double clutching/de-clutching in no time.

And I fully support this action. okay

Showed the car today to a very interested party. Now he just needs to convince his wife. He offered $2,600 - which is less than I was hoping to get, but after having it on the market for 3 months now I'm ready to take the offer. He and I are both members of an Acura Legend forum and I know he can fix the few little issues on her (rust spots on the wheel wells and new paint because of Clear Coat issues) and make her good as new. She's sound mechanically and runs like a dream. His test drive today validated that. :luv: Here's a link to the cars.com ad in case anyone wants a peak. Acura Legend Coupe L 6SPD

Takes one to know one, only Ladym_cate is a lady so watch your mouth and mind your manners if you have any to begin with! The Acura Legend 6sp is more manly than you're capable of understanding so crawl back under that skirt you've been hiding in and keep your mouth shut until you have something intelligent to contribute. beer
