<_< This should be a simple & quick question for you techs. I was wondering if I can upgrade my Bio's on my 633 IDS which I have already installed a Intel Celeron Coppermine 1.1 GHZ CPU. before I had installed it or should put the old CPU back in & then install the up to date Bio"s? Can it be done either way w/out corrupting anything? Keep it in or take it back out? Which is best? :)

 Forgot to mention my machine is still running rather slow after the upgrade & it does not show the original bio's on thetop of the bio's bootup screen. I ahve not yet installed 2 256 PC133 chips but it has 2- PC133 128's in it now. The cpu is reading correctly in bio's screen at 1000 MHz. CPU speed. Need some help so I can get this critter up & running faster.

Before doing anything go back to the BIOS Upgrade page linked to this forum because I recall a very orderly sequence of steps to be taken when doing this. Sorry I can't give you the link directly but it's here someplace! Print it out and walk thru it mentally before physically to plan your process. Good luck and hope all goes well and you get rid of that annoying alarm! damnpc beer

I'd take that fan w/alarm and throw in a trash can and use the old 633's fan. As for speed, what's CPU-Z say your running at?

:) Lubner, Don't know exactly where i find the CPU-Z at. It does'nt even show The CPU temps in the Bio's. I know some mobo's Bio's will not show it & you have to install software so you can adjust the temp & fan speed settings. For the HSF I think I can just cut it off the wires & reattach them. I want to keep this fan in it since its new. I am also going to add another external 80mm fan. B)

Wow!! I finally accomplished my upgrade. I removed the 1.10ghz cpu & reinstalled the 633mhz cpu & reflashed the bio's to hp 3.03 version. Reinstalled the 1.10 ghz. It now accepted the full 512mb's of ram & the speed is at 1100 & the fan no longer is running at 100%. The only thing that I did not assume would happen was I lost my windows xp home os. Its a good thing I copied all my data before I accomplished my task. I am happy now. I did notice that while trying to surf the net, it is a little slower loading the pages. Any tips on why this would happen? Thanks guys for all your support. David
