Angel from the underworld or Devil from paradise

The hard drive crapped out on my Dell Latitude C800 and I have to admit I got very fond of using it in my kitchen for displaying recipes while I cooked. So, after looking at new models and realizing I didn't have the money for one right now I decided to pick up this HITACHI 60GB from Newegg. It cost a bit more than I had wanted to spend but after looking at all the options it looked like the best option. It will definitely improve performance over the 20GB 4200 RPM. I'll update on the performance once I've installed it. Now I just wish I could find a battery at a reasonable price. The battery doesn't hold a charge so the laptop has to be plugged in all the time. That's not a real issue, it would just be nice to have it run on battery from time to time. Cate |

Thanks for the links TJ. Ohhh, I like Kahlon.com! There are some pretty good prices on eBay but I'm always hesitant about batteries and such from eBay. Have you bought from Kahlon before? Cate |

Just a question, I don't know if it would work, you may have tried it already. Have you tried putting the pattery pack in a zip-lock freezer bag overnight and then charging it to see if you can "reset" the charge point or does that not work with laptop style batteries? Otherwise, good luck with the Kahlon, I hope it works a good long time for you!

It didn't help with my notebook battery that doesn't hold but about a 30 min charge now (I could get 3+ hrs out of it on max battery settings) with only 30 cycles (should be good for 300+ cycles). I think my problem however might be a bad cell. Everytime I run the calibration soft it seems like the cell fails causing the calibration software to keep down rating the battery even though it could probably hold quite a bit more charge. There was a battery recall for my make of battery around the time my battery was made, but unfortunately my battery supposedly wasn't effected, but I have a feeling that hp/compaq chose to only recall a small portion of the batteries and not all of the effected batteries. |

Yeah....I was surprised when I was also not eligble for the recall. You know what it is....the recall was for batteries that blew up.....your battery can't hold enough of a charge to start a fire!

The new 60GB HD works like a dream. Easiest install I've ever had. Plug it in, load the OS, drivers and software and I'm styling. Love it. Had to search for the Xircom Realport Cardbus Ethernet 10/100+Modem 56 drivers outside of Dell but found them archived at Intel. All other drivers were available from Dell. Payday is tomorrow. Time to buy that battery. Thanks for the info/help guys. It's good to have my laptop back. I've been spoiled having it and I'm more than ready to admit that.Cate |

I forgot to mention I updated the bios too! Dell made it very easy to do. Took it from Ver A09 to Ver A23. First time I've every tried that.
