So, the Conroe cores are supposed to be released this summer/fall, with speeds of 1.83Ghz to 2.66Ghz, an 800-1066Mhz FSB and 2-4MB of L2 cache (depending on proc speed). I've heard the 2.66Ghz Conroe has already been tested against an overclocked FX-60, running at 2.8Ghz. Word is, the FX-60 came in second best. If the web rumors are accurate, AMD had better have something very special cooked up for it's new AM2 socket, or it may well loose it's hard fought advantage over Intel. Conroe is only the beginning. In early 2007, Intel plans to release it's first quad-cored CPU, code named Clovertown. Individuals interested in building, upgrading, or purchasing new systems might want to wait for the first shots to be fired in this latest manufacturer dustup... ;)
