My computer died on me and I've had it tested and I've been told it needs a new mobo and powerpack. I know the front usb port and audio won't work with some motherboards. Can anyone recommend a motherboard that I can put in that won't do this? Also, any clues as to why my comp went kaput? Thanks! |

Sorry, thought you didn't post what kind of computer you had (DAH) Someone will pop in for ya, hang in there! In the meantime, did you try running the computer with nothing but the mobo hooked to the PS & everything else disconnected? See if it boots to Operating System not found. Do the fans run? You may not need a mobo. It happens a lot when you take your computer to a shop - they tell you the worst case scenario 'cause they really don't want to work on it. I've seen the "bad motherboard come in to me, only to be a bad stick of RAM. Shoot back all the info you have!

I'm not really very computer literate- I'm just a teacher who needs her computer back. I've got a computer savvy mate to look at it and he said it was those two things. I think he ran those tests, but he's away now. Then I took it in to a shop and they said the same and they had it for a while. The computer just wouldn't power off one day- The light stayed on but there was nothing going to the monitor and the unit wouldn't respond to anything. I had to pull out the power cable to turn it off and when I plugged it back in it did exactly the same. Then, it wouldn't power up at all. I'm haapy to replace the motherborad but I just want to get one that's as compatible with the E420 case as possible. I know the one in there is a TriGem Imperial but I'd like to get a better one too. any help would be really appreciated. |

Powerpack = PSU Take Lubner's Advice and try a New PSU first - a lot less $$$ than mobo
