After all of what you have done, I would just go ahead and purchace a video card and disable the "onboard graphics" like you said.
You said that you like to play games, so a video card would be the wise thing to do. Like Lubner said, get an AGP card if you have an AGP slot available.

Now let's go to the bar! drunk

Bien Sur, Monsieur,
this seems to be where things are so far....

Tazman has found the relevant FIC support area here:
ftp://ftp.fic.com.tw/motherboard/driver/1stUtilities_v1.27/

q3b says his video driver is 56.64 here:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html

And here is a good manual for a similar board by EPOX:
http://www.epox.com/USA/product.asp?id=EP-8RGM3I
And several at MSI to choose:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mai...P=4&NAME=Socket

I am loathe to say this, but are we sure Windows even needs the video driver? It often installs something that works anyway.

I don't know the answer, but I admire the problem...

Here's what I found. I downloaded the Nvidia 44.03 Driver and extracted it. There is 1 different size .inf file and 3 extra files in the "E" drivers. Two are .txt files which are probably not needed but one is a .sys file. It could be the different .inf file or most likely the .sys file is needed. If you would like to try these drivers from "E" send email to lubners@hotmail.

Driver Installation Hints
* "Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.
* Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.
* Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

So what's in those 2 files, Lubner10? Have you been delving with Notepad or your Hex Editor? Are you closing in on that beverage?

One is a Readme and the other tell what display resolutions are supported. They're just .txt file.

Hi lubner, I didn't make myself clear there. I meant the .inf and .sys files.
The first is usually text based setup info, the second probably a jumble of code which you would need a hex editor to open. There are usually a few strings of text inside to give you a clue what they are about, as you know. But don't waste time on it. Thanks anyway.
Anyone who is interested in Hex Editors should check out olderthandirt's favourite ListofLists. There are some great utilities there.

I like Free Hex Editor. It is neat and simple. And lets you check out every file under the sun provided it is not too big. Good for hacking bios, cmos and anything else...

Nvidia .inf file also includes directions for their "Quadro" which "Es" .inf has no mention of. For the .sys file it is a ALi filter driver. Why "Es" AU31 would need this file and apparently no one else did with ver. 44.03 I don't understand but it's there for what ever reason.

Did Nvidia team up with ALi on this IGP chip???  Is this file installed on my AU31??? Yep, it sure is in the C:\Drivers\Systems\Display folder. Could this "Filter Driver" help address the IRQ??? I could go on and on............but it all just a guest. At this point I have no idea. All I can do is offer to send it for her to try.

Hi Guys...

Still no luck on any drivers. This is the weirdest problem that I've ever come across, that's for sure! I think I'm gonna throw in the towel and give up on this for now. I wanna thank each and every one of you who spent the time and efforts to help me out. Everything you've done is always highly appreciated! :luv:

The most logical and practical thing at this point for me is to probably go out and purchase an AGP video card and disable the onboard one. I've been shopping around online and saw a few that I like, but if any of you know of really good and reliable ones, your recommendations are always welcome! So far I'm taking a liking to the nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra.

Taz... sorry, the "C" isn't for Conner, but the hilarious thing is that my cousin's name *is* Sarah Conner. Believe me, she's had more than her fair share of Terminator puns throughout the years

Nothing wrong with that choice in cards. Post the prices and vendors you are looking at.....and I am quite sure you will get some feedback on best price/vendor etc..

Okay, I went out and picked up the nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra, but was too lazy to install it until yesterday. New hardware detected, driver loaded, games installed perfectly and all is well. :)

For the life of me, I still cannot understand why the various other nVidia drivers that were attempted never installed correctly for the VGA controller?

Anyhoo.... ((((thank you)))) once again to all of you who helped me out with this frustrating dilema. I love my little eMachine, but it has a nasty habit of really irking me sometimes, so I'm sure I'll be visiting these forum pages someday really soon!

Thanks again guys and gals! Enjoy your week! :luv:
