When you say PCI, do you mean PCI-E now available on the newer machines, or just regular PCI? AGP video cards outperform any PCI cards, if you have a choice, go AGP. If you aren't into gaming or any heavy graphics/video editing, PCI is probably fine. I've never used PCI-E, so I'll let someone else comment on that. AGP vs. PCI Info |

Interesting ... I just finished a long conversation with my son on this subject. His last "Systems" report was on this very same topic. (He's an IT major). While PCI Ex. is faster in theory, the language used for programming the cards is still AGP. It seems that, once again, the industry has released new technology that is not yet universally supported. (He got a 97 on the report). If you want to be ready for "cutting-edge" video performance when everyone catches up... go with PCI Express. If you want what works now, and well into the future ... go AGP. I'm in the process of building a new system. It will use an AGP 8X video card. |

AGP, or PCI-E... I'm considering upgrading my video card. I've got an AGPx8 board, so that solves that dilemma... LOL! Now if I were going to construct a new gaming rig, I'd plan ahead and buy an SLI capable board. SLI PCI-E and socket 939 are a good future-proof combo. Even if you don't use the SLI option at first, it'll be there when some yet-to-be-written game requires the power. I haven't seen any reports that AMD is planning to replace 939 in the near future and the upgrade paths with it are numerous.
