Can someone tell me what the Power Suppy Requirements are for the nVidia GeForce 6800 AGP video card? This is not the GT nor the Ultra models. I want to see if I have enough juice for the upgrade. |

Check the manufactures site. If your still using the original "E" PSU you'll need to upgrade. PSU Calculator |

Thanks lubner10. Another question for ya' (or anyone): I have a AthlonXP 2400, 768MB RAM, and a motherboard that has only a 4x AGP slot. The GeForce 6800 would be a definite improvement over my current fx5200, but, given my set-up, would the 6800 be able to run 'full-tilt' with no bottlenecks? Thanks. |

There's really not that much of a performance drop running an 8x AGP card at 4x but it will be less in bandwidth. The only time you will really see the difference is if you run out of ram on the card and start using system ram. |

Thanks again. Finally: I used the wattage calculator at the website given and I noticed that there was only a 9 watt difference between the fx5200 and the 'vanilla' 6800. Is this correct? My fx5200 runs fine and would an additional 9 watt drawn on the PSU unit cause me problems? |

You must understand "E" uses the cheapest PSU they can find so even if you may have a 300watt PSU who really knows what's actually coming out of it. Try it and see is all you can do then. If so notice the system crashing/hang I would look to the PSU. What did the calculator say you needed for your entire system? This should get you close. |

The calculator indicated I'd be using 234watts w/ the 6800 (225watts w/ fx5200). I've read about cheap PSU's causing problems, but I never knew eMachines went with the cheap-o PSU's. Thanks for the heads-up. Newegg has a great deal on a 6800 right now. I don't want to miss out on it so I'll probably go ahead and buy it and see what happens. I've never replaced a PSU, but if I need to - it'll give me something to mess around with. I'm going to open-up the 4 inactive pipes and 1 shader on the 6800 with RivaTuner. Hopefully no artifacts, we'll see. Any experience/advise with this?? |

If anyones interested: I decided on and purchased an Apollo GeForce 6800 AGP from Newegg and installed it with the current 250watt PSU that's in my D2346. Works great. My attempt at softmoding the card we smooth as silk. Used RivaTuner and unlocked the additional 4 pipes and 1 vertex shader with no artifacts. I upgraded from a fx5200 and I knew the improvement would be great but WOW!! Now I realize what I've been missing. 1024x768 resolution with 4x antialiasing and 8x antriscopic filtering. SWEET. The weakeness here is still the Bestec 250 watt PSU. Haven't seen any problems/lockups yet, but I'm still going to change it out within the next month. Thanks to all for any advise given. |

If I can do it, believe me you can do it. Replacing a PSU is extremely easy. I'm about to do my 3rd replacement. First two were on my e-Monster600, this one will be on "no-name" system I picked up for $5.00 that has an Achieve ATX AX250 PSU. I'm on a search for the replacement right now. The e-Monster600 has a mATX so unfortunately I can't use one of the "left-overs" from that system.Good job and happy upgrading! Cate |

Does eMachines use proprietary PSU's? I've read about problems fitting ATX PSU in some emachines cases. Dimension issues it seems. Any recommendations on the PSU brand? I've heard that thermaltake and antec are respectable brands. Believe this!!: my D2346 has not a single case fan, just one fan on the PSU! What's size case fan will fit on the back panel of my case to work as an exhaust fan (80mm, 90mm, 120mm)? (Gotta keep the 6800 cool!!) Take care. |

No not proprietary yet. The issues your referring to was before the Nexgen case which used MATX PSU. Your case will use the standard ATX PSU. I've heard the same about Antec and Thermaltake.
I believe it. If it's the same as mine and "E" hasn't changed it should be for a 80mm fan. |

lubner10 - your a bottomless well of pure computer knowledge. Kudos. And i'm a bottomless well of computer questions: If my PSU kicks it, is there any chance of it damaging any other components in my system? If there is a chance of other damage I'll get on the PSU upgrade sooner. Thanks. |

Sure, there is always that chance but I don't know personally of anyone having this happen. |
