Need Bios Upgrade so I can Disable Video?

Im upgrading my old emachines T1742 with a PCI radeon. Just found out today that there is NO WAY to disable the onboard video, which is causing problems with the install of XP. I found out some users upgraded their bios versions and it now had an option for the onboard video disable. Problem is I cannot find a bios upgrade for my emachines, and im not sure where to find it?

Can anyone help me?

Thanks so much,

Mark

I cant get into device manager, although I guess I can see if it pops up in safemode if its possible to disable it in there and reboot. I went to your link, supposedly I have the Imperial GL version, and I dont see an update for the GL.... Will any of the others work?

Thanks so much,

Mark

I was able to disable the onboard video through the device manager while in safe mode. I booted up and it seemed to take care of the problem.

Then after a few reboots the computer stopped responding near the end of the POST. After it said Shadowed Video bios, but no error was present. Im at a loss now, obviously the bios needs updated so I can fully remove the onboard video but after hours of searching have not found a bios upgrade compatible!

:(

If anyone can find one for me? Or has one that they could email me please let me know!

Thanks so much,

Mark

I'm not certain if this will help, but when I bought my T5026 and installed a Geforce FX 5200- all sorts of things went wrong. I was also using dual monitors, and I kept getting the "Out of Scan Range" error on my Cintiq flatscreen tablet. I simply could not disable the onboard video, which apparently was causing the problem. PNY, the maker of my card, sent me a tech help message that ACTUALLY SOLVED the problem! Anyway, here is the solution they gave me, and it doesn't involve BIOS. I hope this helps you or someone else, because it sure helped me:

> Power on your system and go in to safe mode by hitting the F8 key after the initial post beep.
> Select safe mode from the list (normally on top)
> Log on with your user name or owner.
> Click on yes once on your desktop whan prompted with a yes or no question.
> Right click on your My Computer icon and select properties , then click on the hardware tab , then device manager.
> In the device manager click on the plus sign next on the display adapters category, disable the onboard card by simply right clicking and selecting disable.
> Hit yes to confirm you want to disable it.
> When a red X shows up over the onboard video card you need to remove the new card so that windows can detect again later as if it were the first time it was installed.
> Right click on the GeForce card and select uninstall , confirm that you want to remove it BUT say no if windows asks you to restart your system.
> You will get a error message afterwards but it is OK.
> For windows xp , you may also click on start , RUN , and type in the RUN box msconfig.
> Click on the General tab and then check the box that says selective startup items.
> And uncheck the box that says load startup items.
> Click ok and when prompted to restart the system , restart the system.
> When windows loads up again you will have 2 pop up windows , 1 is the configuration ultility window and the other the found new hardware wizard.
> On the configuration utility windows check the bos that says Do Not Show This Message Again and click on OK.
> On the found new hardware wizard window ,if you are prompted by a connect to the internet window, click on not @ this time and after that you do not need to click on anything, simply insert the Verto cd-rom and wait for the instalation process of the driver to begin.
> Once finished restart your computer 1 more time and the process is completed.

Oh, and obviously, the response was tailored to the GeForce and Verto products I was using, but the same steps should work for your card.
