I have a T1742 with on-board video and do a lot of digital picture processing with Photoshop and was wondering if a PCI video card would improve performance substantially and, if so, which card can this group recommend. I don't do any gaming or video processing so FPS isn't important but image quality is. Knowing this would it make much difference if the card has 128 or 256 of memory? I know Matrox is renown for their 2D image quality but they're out of my price range. Are there more affordable cards that can provide good to excellent 2D image quality for under $100. Thanx All. |

Upgrading your video card probably won't make a bit of difference with your Photoshop. More ram and faster processor is all Photoshop cares about, it's 2D. If you are going to get into gaming or video editing, then you would need a better video card. |

If Pianolady is correct about Photoshop, which I'm sure she is , your best bet would be to buy 512MB of memory (it's really cheap now after rebates). After checking out your system info it shows it came with only 128MB of memory, with the integrated graphics using either 16MB or 32MB of system memory (probably only using 16MB, unless you've added extra memory). You should also check for updated drivers for both the chipset AND video. Updated drivers may help. I'm putting a link to your machine below. Try these options and let us know if they help you.http://www.emachines.com/support/product_s...ies&model=T1742 Oop's, Go HERE to download the newest drivers! http://www.e4allinc.info/dir1/motherboards...l_downloads.htm PS Just seen you've already gone to 1GB memory, so scratch that off. |

Photoshop also likes a 2nd HD to use as a Scratch Disk, this too will help with preformance. |

Thanx to all for your help. I'll check into the BIOS and drivers. The second hard drive is a great especially, I would imagine, a new 7200 rpm drive.
