Standard 3-4 year old T2080 w 1.6 Gig Athalon cpu, 512 Meg memory, 40 Gig HD, NIC, modem, onboard ProSavage video, running XP Home SP2. Never have had any problems with it. After installing nVidia fx5200, disabling onboard video, system recognizes the 5200, loads drivers and all works fine until I reboot. System usually hangs before getting to Windows welcome screen but it makes it past there, video blacks out about every 8-10 seconds and then stays black for awhile before coming back. I can boot in safe mode and it all works fine in default VGA mode. If I remove the FX5200, system recognizes he onboard ProSavage and everything runs fine. I beginning to suspect a power supply problem (inadequate). The T2080 has 250 watt PS (very noisy fan BTW). Is this enough to drive the standard config plus the 5200? Or any other ideas? TIA Don |

That may be a likely problem. Try upgrade the PSU to at least 350W. 450W and higher would be even better.
Yes. Try the ideas in the post listed here. |
