The only thing in the bios that I could find that could be anything of onboard graphic would be the 4th boot device of NVIDIA BOOT AGE......but I have no clue what that is. Im going to try all of this later on tonight and tomorrow all day. Im willing to do a bios flash to see if it works, as I think maybe I need new motherboard drivers or an updated bios. But, id like to know a little more information on the bios flash, regarding what it does and making sure im using a correct bios flash and not somethign thats going to completely rape my computer since its only a day old! haha thanks. PS:Any tips for unconnecting the uncessary stuff from the psu? |

Sounds like maybe your memory frequency. It really should not matter, now if you mislabled it and it is FSB then you could be overclocking your processor. I doubt that though unless you have flashed the bios with something other than emachines BIOS. The other part is your boot order, ie. floppy, cd or harddrive. The last part is in fact AGP related and the aperture is somewhat relevant to your issue. I assume your card has 128mb of memory, if you set the aperture to that it would not really hurt anything. I have heard people say to set it to the same size as your card or to 1/2 the size at 64. I am not an avid gamer and have not seen a great deal of difference in either case so others can debate that part. Won't hurt to see if it helps though. |

Yes, it is FSB! Also, in the manual it says the card comes overclocked, as well as me reading it in reviews. So maybe if I lower it down a notch, cuz basically that could make a huge difference? Theres 4 choices, im not sure of the first two but they are smaller then 166, and then the last one is 200. Im not to try to lower it, as well as set the apeture size back down to 64, just to see if that can help out a tad. |

I think you mis-understood, that setting is related likely to your memory (ram) or your processor not likely your graphics card. I would not suggest playing with that unless you are ready to overclock (heat up) your processor. The AGP aperture is the one related to the card, not likely the frequency control you may be playing with. Just don't want you to fry anything. If it is directly related to the graphics card I would be highly surprised but even more surprised if OEM emachines bios will allow an overclock or memory adjustment. |

This is on TD's site for that mobo on the w3050. I do not see and have not found any BIOS updates for that board, but there is a link to the chipset drivers, they are likely the ones you already have. Not a whole lot on that box at this time as far as I can tell. |

Well I bought a 450watt power supply with a special VGA plug (well not special) but it has its own special power plug that goes to the video card rather then piggy backing off of something else that says its specifically designed for high end nvidia cards. Anyways, hopefully this will work. I updated the drivers for the mother board too. Ill find out either late tonight or sometime in the early afternoon tomorrow. Ill make sure I come up here and tell you all if it works.......lets hope!! |

Ok, it should be done around 930. Yes I cracked, I bought the power supply at comp usa and they said they would install it for me for 30bux and for 45 bux total they would install the video card and that, I said eh screw it, i dont know all that much about computers so Ill let these technicians do it. Probability of this working you all think? Hopefully its high, and hopefully itll work!! |

Ask them when they get done if it was the PSU, drivers or what? That is assuming they do not run into the same issue you had. |

I stopped in CompUSA today...to get a stupid little chipset fan....mine has been going south for quite a while! There is this big pile of stuff for $7.99 each....500 watt power supplies with dual fans, 400w, 300w, ATI Radeon 7000 64 mb cards, 9250pci w128mb(though, I guess 7.99 is about right for ATI )!10/100 cards, pci 133 adapters, laptop cards,USB 2.0 add-on cards all new in box and more. Piles of em! Weird! TJ

Haha they prolly will! I went down and the guy is like im working on it right now and everything is looking fine and dandy, come down if you want to pick it up by the time you get here it should be A.OK. I go there and the guys like yup 5 minutes i just have to install the drivers and run a few tests and make sure it runs correctly. 10 minutes goes by and hes like will you come in here with me please. Im like ok, yah guess what the same thing I have, he had come up. Hes like I know for a fact its not a defective card cuz it runs properly in safe mode and in vga mode, but i dont understand why it wont on normal startup. Hes like I think it has to do with the drivers and the loading of the other card. He said he looked for a jumper for the onboard but couldnt find one. He also says that before you install the drivers that it detects both the 4mx and the 6600gt. Thats what he thinks the problem is because he said he couldnt disable in the bios. He said tomorrow hes going to have the more experienced technicians work on it. Hmmm, im wondering if they can uninstall the default drivers for the video card (not the nvidia ones, but the ones that show up after u uninstall all the nvidia ones for the 4mx) Im thinking that could be the problem. I have a feeling that someones going to have to help me flash the bios or do w/e to make this work. I did upgrade the motherboard drivers and that didnt help as well as a 450watt psu with a power plug going directly to the card. Hmmmmmmmmmm and GRRRRRRRR at the same time. He seemed even more irate then I am at this time, cuz he says my mother board and everything supports it but he just thinks its a driver conflict of some sort. Im upset but this kid was really upset cuz he couldnt even figure it out. Any tips or suggestions? I dont think if they cant figure it out by tomorrow (he said they open at nine and I should come in around 12) then im going to take it back home and just mess with it myself a little more and keep bugging you great people, who I thank so much for all the help you guys have provided me.....we shall prevail through this!! Anyways, he wrote a note on the computer and a note on the desk putting it as the top priority for tomorrow morning. |

Ok so I call up and they said.......yay you got a defective video card......hmmmm. Do you guys think I do? I dont see why I could still use VGA and Safe mode if it was defective? I guess im going to return it to tigerdirect.com on Monday. Im going to try a few more things when I get it back this evening when I go pick it up. I still dont see how its defective though. Hmmmm. PS:Anyone here ever return anything to tigerdirect.com?? |

A video card can fail in several different ways. In safe mode or with the initial install, the card is working in its most basic mode. When the drivers are loaded, that "turns on" the advanced features of the card, which there seems to be a problem with in your case.. |

sounds like a consensus, either the bios will not allow you to enable the 8x or you got a bum card. I am more inclined to believe card first. If you get a 2nd one and the same thing occurs then we can start the process over again, but better safe than sorry, and so we don't do alot of things that are unnecessary to later just learn it was a bum card. We're down to just a couple variables it seems and I have not seen any new bios on that board. |
