Newbie on video cards; looking for opinions on this one.

We have a T3265 with 'stock' onboard & plan to run Doom 3 and the like. Budget is a concern, which is why this one caught my eye. Never heard of Chaintech though....

TIA

Rich

It would probably be an alright card, but it depends on whether the memory interface is 64 or 128 bit. Looking at:

http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/product...No=14&PISNo=271

it looks like it could be either. How will you know, unless NewEgg would answer an e-mail query.

If your budget can fit a tad bit more, one of these will be a lot better for recent games:

Cards in the GeforceFX series like you linked to don't fair well in DirectX 9 games.

GeForce FX 5500 I have had friends say "I love it" from what I understand it is a 5200 with a higher clock. Overclocking it can get you some good performance all though my 5700LE AGP 8x was able to run HL2 at full tilt at maxed out clocks before I messed it up by erasing the EPROM. I reccomend the 5700LE or 5700nU, but the 5500 is pretty good for the budget gammer!

Edit: might I reccomend this 5700LE I checked it out and it has 128Bit so it is pretty fast.

Using an 128 MB ATI Raedon 9200 SE (8x AGP) on my T2042 (2 Ghz Celeron/400FSB/128KL2) rocks when I play BattleField 1942 (plus mods) and HL2 with 768 MB or RAM.

Very good refresh rate and it's a great bang for the buck!

Another question that's come up..I read somewhere that even though system RAM is reported as PC2700, it's actually PC3200, and that speed is uncorked by adding an AGP card.

True? Again, it's a T3265. If this is true that's a nice little bonus :)
