Okay, this may be long so...my apologies. Got the W3050 last night and want to upgrade the video card to a radeon 9700 pro. As soon as I installed it into the AGP slot, no more picture. So I figured, "Okay, maybe I need to disable the onboard thru the BIOS". Only thing is that there is no option for that due to the fact that it the comp is using the AwardBIOS. So I go on ati's website to see if there is something there in the install docs that I don't know about. Lo and behold, according to the documentation, I need to install different AGP drivers, depending on what chipset I have. Well, pretty much everything important on the damn computer is using the nVidia nForce drivers and on the unofficial emachine website, the chipset I have is nVidia. Now I highly doubt that nVidia makes different AGP drivers so that I can use a different video card, but I figured what the hell, I looked anyway. Turns out my guess was right. Just for sh**s and giggles I tried Via's drivers, but to no avail. Anyway,I am now at a standstill. I cannot figure out how to disable the onboard, nor can I update the AGP drivers so the ATI card will be recognized. And yes, I did try the suggestions in Grizzly's sticky at the top of the forum. Anyone out there with a W3050 or at least someone who might be able to suggest something different? |

Try looking in the "Add/Remove Program" for the "Nvidia Video Drivers" to see if you can remove. Sound like your board is really close to the AU31. Might want to look here also: http://www.e4allinc.info/dir1/motherboards...1_end_users.htm EDIT: Under "Advanced Chipset Features" don't you have a "8x AGP Support" setting in your Bios? |

Ok - so I'm not the best at giving solutions, but I'll give it a shot. As TJ always says "POWER SUPPLY" as something to look at. I couldn't find out what PSU wattage the W3050 has but the specs on the Radeon 9700 Pro info says right off the bat that a minimum power supply of 300 watts or greater is required. As another odd ball - what about the resolution and refresh rates on your monitor? You don't mention what type of monitor you are using - but there can always be issues.Just some thoughts. I could be totally off the mark - but I try to help. Cate |

Well, the power source is 350 as it turns out. Good suggestion though. As for the resolution and refresh rate, I doubt that is the problem, but I am using the emachines moniter that came with the comp. I haven't changed any settings on it at all. Nice try, even if it didn't work. |

looking at the au31, it looks almost exactly the same as the k7mnf. anyone have an opinion on flashing the bios with the modded ones on unofficial emachines help site? |

No, Nice suggestion Cate. I'm surpise it came with a 350w PS. I didn't think it would been over 300w and knowing "E" PSU you might still have something there.

Thanks for the back up on the PSU Lubner. You're right about the stock PSU's that come on the emachines - as we all know. I with your thoughts about it possibly being a bad card. It does happen. Another thought - archon129, have you tried an extra hard push to make sure the card is seated correctly? I know it sounds like a stupid since you sound like you are experienced, but I found I had that same problem initially when I just hadn't pushed the card in far enough to get those solid "clunks" making sure the card was well seated. You might be dealing with a bad card though. Let us know how it goes. We'll keep trying to help. Cate |

Now that Cate brought up connections, How are you bringing power to the card? Might want to check that connections too. I try not to "piggy-back" the power on a video card. I know you may be limited with plugs so if you must share try sharing with a CD/DVD drive instead of the HD. |

I'm starting to buy into the psu idea. I just looked at the psu and it is 300w, not 350w like the websites are saying. i'll give it a try if i can find a spare psu from somebody. btw, lubner and cate, i appreciate all the help. |

Double check this: Is your new AGP video card designed for 8x or 4x?. Does the motherboard of your computer support 8x by default? I had a video problem with my motherboard defaulting to 8x when I installed my Radeon 7000 (4x). Changing the setup in the BIOS to another value (not 8x) allowed the AGP video to run normally without problem. Here you may have the reversed situation where perhaps the AGP video card is 8x and your computer motherboard supports 4x. I am just throwing an here to be checked (although it should work if it is this way).Titi |

I'm not sure you answered Lubner's question. The 9700 Pro (at least the ATI branded ones) have a seperate plugin on them for a power lead from the Power Supply. Did you plug that lead into the card? The card would display nothing if powered only by the AGP slot. |

Sorry to hear the bad news. It happens unfortunately. Do you have access to another computer you could try it in before you decide the card is bad? If not, or it still doesn't work, I hope you got it from a respectable site. Let us know the outcome. |
