I noticed in Everest home, that it says my mobo has 4 memory slots, it of course only has two since I have the cheap version of this board. Is there a way to add the other two slots? There's mounting holes and everything where those slots would have been. The other version of this board has dual memory, so that would be cool if I could add it. Sorry....forgot to mention I'm talking about that Soyo board again. |

I guess you could physically add the memory slots to your mboard. It would take tight soldering work, but theoretically it could be done Adding the ports doesn't necessarily mean that it will work, however. Although I don't know the specifics, my guess is that the BIOS will need to be modified to support the change, and the chipset drivers installed may have to be updated. Also, just because there are some traces on the board doesn't mean that the board is wired for dual channel---they could be just set up for additional single channel slots. You might be able to get some info on your memory subsystem by looking at some of the driver files in the Device Manager--maybe there will be some clue there. And if the board is the exact same as the one mentioned in "Everest home," you might get away with installing their bios (note that this is definitely risky, and I don't really recommend it.) As an aside, does Everest report that it has 4 physical slots, or 4 banks of memory. Many boards treat each side of a Dimm as a separate "slot", so be careful when you say it has 4 slots. Also, keep in mind that the ATI chipset is known to be incompatible with some memory chips, and if you play around with it, you might exacerbate the problem. I know you got the board for free, so it might be fun to try it out, but I wouldn't count on it working out. |

Thanks, it's showing up as 4 seperate slots, but I don't see any signs of dual capability. I think I'll tinker with it after my next upgrade, whenever that is. |

You might also want to check out utilities like SiSandra, CPUID, and others like them to see if they give you any additional insight |
