Hi everyone, I'm new to your forum and have been reading the old posts, lots of great information here! I have a T2682 with an Imperial 845GV mobo. It looks as though I can upgrade to a P4, 2.8ghz w/ 533fsb. 512kb L2 cache.(Northwood) I have found a 2.8ghz 533fsb 1mb L2cache (prescott). I went to the intel website and read about the cpu, 90nm technology sounds tempting. Both cpus' run around the same price. I've read good things about the prescotts on this forum. I know heat can be an issue with the prescotts, so I plan on adding case fans and upgrading the power supply. I would like to try the prescott if it will work. It doesn't have HT, but I don't know it that will make a big difference for me or not. I like to play games (COD) and make DV movies from my camcorder (Pinnacle studio 9 deluxe). Thanks in advance for your help, Doug |

I don't think any one here has reported using a Prescott in any or the Imperial mobos. I know on some of the older non-eMachine mobos, required a bios update to support the Prescotts and I don't know if any of the bios updates HERE would work or not. How do you like using Pinnacle for your video editing? |

Here this will tell you about your mobo. Check out the End User's Upgrades page as someone with your mobo has already fitted a 2.8Ghz P4 (Northwood) succesfully. Also check this page for comparisions between both types of cpu. Your current mobo will not support HT technology anyway but since you are using a Celeron just now i would expect a big leap in both speed & raw computing power with any 2.8 P4. If i were you i would stick with the Northwood. It will work with what you have & at the end of the day it's still a P4. I am unsure about using the new Prescott core. It is relatively new technology & every Imperial board being used from high to low spec are quite old designs hence the 400/533 FSB's. Cut your losses m8 & stick with Northwood. |

Thanks for the input, I'll take your advise and stick with the northwood. This is my first cpu upgrade so the easier the better for me. As for pinnacle , so far its great! I got it for christmas and have only used it once so far. Made a really nice christmas movie with footage shot from my old analog camcorder. Lots of cool features and filters for making your videos look better. Uses a lot fof HD space though, so I added a 300GB seagate at the same time. thanks again, Doug |
