Hi, New to the forums, seems like the place to get emachines help :P
Ok, I've gotten hold of 2.8 533Mhz P4., I plan to jam this into my Emachines 410.
According to my manual and the motherboard itself the mobo is an Imperial 845G, which I didnt think was standard on this model, It has an agp slot which also indicates a g I think.
Anyway if I do succesfulyl put the chip in, what exactly do I have to do to get it up and running? change anything in the BIOS or the whole flash the BIOS thing, because I'm really nervous about destroying my computer by flashing the BIOS badly. An easy guide would be appreciated :)
Also someone mentioned somethign about destroying ram if it wasnt fast enough, I have pc2100 ram which I think operates at 133, although should the mobo not stop the ram getting blown up by slowing it down?
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

The 410 should come with a GL board but since you have mentioned the AGP slot then it could well be a G. The Imperial G will support an FSB up to & including 533Mhz so the P4 that you have should slot in nicely. Just check that the core voltage is the same as your Celeron now (should be 1.525v). Don't think that you will need to flash the BIOS. The Pheonix bios is plug & play so it should recognise the new cpu once you power it up. As to the memory, all Imperial mobo's can take either PC1600 or PC2100 so if you stick to PC2100 i would'nt worry too much, again the BIOS will recognise this as soon as it's fitted & your machine is powered up. The manual supplied with your machine has a guide into how to fit a new cpu. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself then take it to someone who can & will do it for you. Some of the small independant home computer shops will probably be able to help you but it will cost. But if you do decide to do it then make sure that you are properly earthed. You can buy an earthing tether from PC WORLD or if not make sure that a part of your body is in contact with the pc frame when changing over.

Hi, Thanks Fo the info Kev, I like assurance, makes me feel better about trying to jam stuff into sockets.
I'm not sure the core voltate will be the same, I think the Northwoob P4s, 533mhz are about 1.3? but Ill have to check .
Also I'll probably need to check the temperature of the ship btu I cant seem to find an easy way to do it, any programs that are ideal for this, I've tried a few but they didnt work.
Thanks again,
Chris,
Ps any was to change the cpu operating voltage if its incorrect or am I fuxed?
Cheers

No, your okay. Here are the specs for the Northwood 2.8Ghz Pentium 4. The voltage is the same as the standard Celerons, 1.525v. Soon as you plug it in & power up the machine the bios should recognise the processor type. You did'nt specify wether the cpu you have found had HT. I have given you the specs for the one without but you will find the HT specs on the same site. The later versions of the Imperial G boards will support HT but you'd better check your mobo's manual first. Can't give you any info with regards temperature control software, never had to use them.
Sorry. :(

No problemo m8. Keep me posted with the improvements that the P4 is giving you. I might be sticking a 2.8 P4 in myself shortly.
