I have an old 150DVD with a socket 370 Intel Celeron 1200 Mhz Chip and a Lomita Motherboard - Intel Chip i810e & an 18 Gig HD.

What is the most economical upgrade please. I have thoughts of replacing the chip and motherboard with a top of the range chip/board but being an amateur at this, I would like to do something that is fairly safe rather than drill holes for a new motherboard etc.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Many thanks and Happy New Year !

"Economical" and "top of the range chip/board" don't go together.....plus, you don't have to drill holes to swap mobo's............unless you just really want too...

TD,

Thanks - bearing in mind what I have present - what would you suggest within the space envelope of my current motherboard to bring it up to a modern spec with plenty of upgrade potential.

Kind regards,

Fred

Fred, you don't have too many upgrade options with the Lomita mobo. It maxes out at 1.4Ghz and no AGP slot. Not a very feature rich mobo.
If you want to take the non-economical approach, THIS MOBO will support just about any socket 478 cpu, has 2 SATA ports, on-board audio, firewire, LAN and video BUT does have an 8x AGP slot.
