NEWBIE
Hello there fellow emachine users. This is the first ever posting from me.

I need to understand what is the best I can get out of this base unit.

I have:
etower 600cd
Intel celeron 600Mhz socket 370 FC -PGA
I am currently putting a wester digitial 80Gb hhd in and using this site to upgrade my SDRAM using Kingston (KVR133X64C3/256) 133 MHz.

Ulitimately I would like to run a DVD burner, but have been told I need to have a minimum of P3 and 500 MHz. Does any one know if this is true?

Any body give me some easy to understand info on this even bette a method sheet and a component list please

Take care and happy new year!

regards

Ian <_<

I'm assuming your motherboard is an Anaheim-2A. If so, you can upgrade the CPU, but there are very specific types that will work with your motherboard:
1.1Ghz. Celeron S-spec: SL5XR, SL5XU
1.0Ghz. Celeron S-spec: SL5XQ, SL5XT, SL635
1.1Ghz PIII S-spec: SL5QV
1.0Ghz PIII S-spec: SL5QW

I have seen a 1.1Ghz PIII 100FSB advertised every once in a while on Ebay--no idea if it will work, but in theory it should.

You will also need one of these, set to "PPGA to FC-PGA":

It's an adapter that will compensate for some design flaws in your motherboard.

A sensible upgrade would be 800MHz - 1GHz, but you may need a mobo upgrade
