I'm trying to get this old etower 400i powered up enough to run SUSE 9.2. Before I attempt this, I got a few questions. 1. Will this old thing accept a 40gig MAxtor HDD without a Bios upgrade? 2. I've read in these forums that the 400i will use up to a 533Mhz Celery, but the tech manual says that the highest accepted cpu is 400Mhz. What mods are needed to install a 533? 3. According to the tech manual, I am only able to install 256 meg od SDRAM but I see talk of people installing more on other emachines with this supposed limitation. Am I able to install 512 meg and what mods are needed for that? Thanks in advanced

Yes Use a 533Mhz CPU with a S-Spec of SL3PZ or SL3FZ. Read here and make sure you use double sided memory. http://s2.invisionfree.com/emachineupgrade...p?showtopic=415 |

lubner pretty well answered all your questions. Be sure to check the specs on the 533MHz celeron lubner mentioned! There are 2 versions of the 533MHz available, the PPGA which you need, and FC-PGA. Proud owner of eMachines 400ix! |

No. A socket 7 cpu will NOT work in a socket 370 mobo. |
