I bought an old etower 366c with the Cyrix processor. Redhat had problems with the Cyrix processor so I put in an Intel 233 processor that I had laying around. After I adjusted the clock speed jumpers everything worked fine. But I cannot find information on what I should set the IOVCC jumper to. The information I have is as follows: --------------- IOVCC set This jumper is used for set of the CPU voltage like as the CoreVCC set. Mostly the Pentium processor uses two kind of power source - CoreVCC and IOVCC, and the corresponding voltage level should be adjusted as recommended in the CPU specification. J15 CPU Type 1-2 IOVCC = CoreVCC (single CPU power source ) 2-3 (default) IOVCC = 3.3V (dual CPU power source ) --------------- The CPU voltage for the Intel 233 is 2.8v. So does anybody know what the jumper is suppose to be set to? -Mike |

As I remember the only 233MHz Pentiums were of the later MMX instruction set kind, which used a dual power source (core and io had different volatges), so leave the jumper set to 2-3. The later model pentiums were also good overclockers. I have not yet ran into a 166MHz Pentium (MMX or non-MMX) (of all the pentium/586 class cpu's I have, I have more 166MHz than anything else... not sure how that happened) that wouldn't run at 200MHz with a fanless heatsink and stock voltage. I have got a Pentium 166MHz w/MMX (one of the later ones with the locked multiplier (which could be unlocked with a pin mod)) to run stable at 250MHz (2.5x/100MHz FSB), but I was using a heatsink w/fan, and I think I bumped the voltage up a bit. I tried that same cpu at 262MHz (2.5x/105MHz FSB) but during boot all I got was a kernel panic. I figured this might be some useful info in trying to get a bit more performance out of that old 233MHz Pentium. |
