If you're installing a new hard drive use the copy utility that comes with new drives and just clone the whole drive.

I updated the bios a long time ago. Most OEM Napoli-2 bios's shows support for 65GB hard drives and even shows that in the POST screen. Even after the 1.13 flash, bios settings only shows 65GB but Windows is able to see the full size partition.
Go ahead and get the 80GB and try it and see what happens....you can always flash, but if you don't want to flash there are overlay programs that come with the hard drive to see the full capacity (Not as good IMO).

TD - I need your input on my E-Monster 550 to a new WD -80 HD. I did succesfully install the 113s BIOS but seem to have a couple of issues
1. After i installed the NEW ATA 100 - WD 80 HD MY system did not see the CDROM BOOT -for installing the WD digital lifeguard tools/format and partician-
( I set the Bios - Boot order as CDROM, Floppy ,then the IDe O, IDE 1) So as Suggested By Western Digital I Downloaded Their Sofetware to Floppies and Loaded THem -Went OK
2. I attempted a Clean Install of 98SE( NOT the Emachine disc) The 98Se Start floppy did well BUT -- When I tried to intall the 98SE CD--- The CDROM DRIVE "NOT READY/NOT FOUND CAME UP" .
I Tried Different Drive Letters D-E-F still nothing -
3. I rechecked BIOS , Advanced BOOT Sequence Looks OK ----In BIOS SETUP I also Changed the Secondary Master and Slave setting from CDROM to AUTO but still did not boot to CDROM
WHAT ELSE TO CHECK in BIOS ETC.
--Also Do I need an ATA 100 /133 Controller card to Get the Most out of the ATA Drive or Does the Bios automatically SUpport ATA 100 HD or Is there any MOtherboard Jumpers / switches that need to be changed.

I was thinking of TRYING an INSTALL of XP PRO but was worried about if Sound Drivers for The CS 4280 or CS 4281 were compatible with XP PRO.

However my First issue is to be able to BOOT from CD DRIVE

your help is very much appreciated.
SINCE MY COMPUTER IS BEING WORKED ON PLEASE SEND ANY ADDITIONAL E-Mail to honeypace2@cox.net

If the CD-ROM disappearance came just after the hard drive install, I would first suspect a jumper problem.
Make sure the jumpers are set correctly and the power lead hasn't come loose:

Could also be the drive has gone bad.

I wouldn't bother with a controller card....

You shouldn't have any compatibility problems using WinXP Pro on your eMonster.

TD -- The jumper was fine . However I di dreconnect everything, I Installed the XP PRo CD . XP PRO still would not boot from the CD. I made the XP Start UP Floppies and installed them . The XP PRO CD was inerted in the CD Drive and EVERYTHING TOOK OFF ---INstall was successful. Ithen updated The XP PRO with SP 1 and 2 -- So far everything is FINE.
I thing it may have been the IDE Cable was not seated on the motherboard.
Internet connected well -- and opeeating fine -- I plan to reinstalllll the rest of my prograns etc after Installing ... A new ANT VIRUS --- XP PRO WOULD NOT LOAD NORTON 2001 that I had -- shows some incapability inssue with XP

I know first hand that this bios upgrade will support 137GB (120Gb) hard drives  with Win98SE.  To get UDMA-4 out of the Napoli-2 system, you'll need a controller  card, which may be your best bet if you are going with a hard drive greater than 137GB.

On the 500a is to be found an Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Mater IDE Controller.
Do you mean to say that it is insufficient to the task of running my two drives (Maxtor 52049U4 and Samsung SV1363D) in UDMA-4(66MB/s) mode and that I will have to obtain an add-on card? No way to do this with stock equipment? Also what utility can I use to ACTUALLY measure the hard drive data transfer rates.

Lastly, is there anyone else who has successfully installed a hard drive of size 250GB under the v1.13 BIOS upgrade.

Thank you

ATA66 is native to the Napoli-2, anything over that [ATA100/133] and you'll need a controller card to see the max benefit out of it....but not really sure if it's worth the money and effort.
Serveral utilities are listed here to measure transfer rates.
