Hi Guys First time here and very happy to have found ya. I talked a buddy of mine into buying a e-machine T2862 celeron type with an e-machine monitor. It only had the one dvd burn drive and he had to download music onto the hhd to burn. So I told him I had an extra dvd rom I could install to make the process faster,it's a H-L Data Storage#GDR8161B. Not very complex, put it in the next bay down hooked up the ide slave and power and powered it up....... no windows xp. All I get is the monitor showing the red green and blue (self test, check connections and monitor is working screen. Am I missing something? Walt ;)

As long as your master/slave jumpers are correct and the PSU is up to par, it's a straightforward upgrade. If you unplug the DVD ROM does e everything work again? If so, it sounds like the drive bit the dust. I had this happen to me a couple of times before when an optical drive went south and killed off the video signal.
