You are limited by the socket 7 on that mobo ....best you can do is a K2+/K3+ chip...these will run in the 500-600mhz range with a little overclock and some know how! But, they are about 3x as powerful as that silly old Cyrix MII. try: www.softwareandstuff.com |

For chips faster than 450MHz, try Upgrade Ability. 3X more powerful is probably an understatement, especially if you have more than 128MB RAM. |

Just a word of caution on the vendor Upgradeability....we have had several members report being burned by this reseller in the past. They reported that they were unable to recoup their losses......just be careful. This forum is not affiliated with any resellers, we cannot be sure about individual members. |

They have the K6-2 500 Mhz over at NewEgg. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-166&depa=0 Its a steal. Better than any deal I've seen on eBay. NewEgg is very reputable. I'm pretty sure I bought mine from them a long time ago for around $40. You'll be surprised how much faster it'll be running but don't let your expectations get too high. After you get the chip, get a video card like the GeForceMX 440. Getting something more expensive and faster (ie. FX5200) probably won't make sense since the mobo will be holding it back. Although, I suggest you ask one of the super experts here which video card would be more suitably matched to a 550 mhz system. Let us know how it all pans out! We all love hearing success stories!!! |

The Cyrix II chip doesn't really run at the mhz number printed on it. It's supposed to be a comparative rating to a Pentium, but it's a bit overstated. So the upgrade to the K6-2 500 will be better than you might expect. I just spent some time with the K6-2 500 system I upgraded w/ a Win98 install, and was surprised with its speed. My other, more powerful boxes are definitely snappier w/ office apps, but for day to day stuff, the K6-2 500 would be just fine. My father's entire office acctg system runs on this box, and it is more than adequate for the task. |

Since you originally asked for about 1 ghz.....you need to know that the K2/3+ chips are significantly faster than the plain K2-500,because of the modern on die cache. Your decision. We now have a bios update to support them natively rather than thru.......... Hocus Pocus!

The K6-III, K6-2+, and K6-3+ are all faster than the K6-2 due to the inclusion of on chip L2 cache. There are also some other technical benefits to these chips, the most important being that the computer will not be somewhat bottlenecked if the PC is expanded beyond 128MB. The K6-2 is still readily available new. The other chips are hard to find, and tend to be overpriced compared to the $15 K6-2 500. You can usually find them on ebay, however for around $40. |

Price vs. performance as usual. No question. Softwareand stuff.com does have brand new K3+450s for 49.99....the lowest price in years,I remember when they were going fo over 150 dollars. The entire K3+chip line from the 450-550s were the same chips(just rebadged)....you should be able to get 550 out of it and maybe 600mhz if you get lucky. TJ |

Is it possible to use a K6-III+450mhz on a delhi-3 MOBO ? That chip has a core volt of 2.0 and the lowest setting I can find on my MOBO is 2.2v. Is there another switch configuration to get 2.0v?

Yes,there is ..........the Delhi has a lot of undocumented settings. We hashed them out about 3 years ago. I have a K3+ 450 in my Delhi III that runs @600mhz. Read more here: http://www.e4allinc.info/dir1/motherboards...3_end_users.htm If you decide to go with it ,we'll hook you up with the recent bios revision that Jan S did for us. TJ
