667ir bios problem; unable to make changes to settings

My old 667ir no longer accepts changes to BIOS settings- will not boot from CD 1st as instructed in setting- HAS NEW BATTERY ! Windows ME sees only one of the 2 optical drives- all cables check ok using swapping and substitution. (nice clean board) I am thinking BIOS upgrade, but unable to find appropriate file. I am wanting to set up a dual boot for this box but can't do anything until I figure out what is up with this MB. Anyone have similar experience/ knowledge? direct email here: drduggee@earthlink.net Thanks in advance.

Did you recently change the battery on the motherboard?
If so you might need to reset the CMOS on the board. Usually requires a jumper for about 6 seconds to clear out the old stuff. Typically it is the jumper near the battery in question. I would suggest to check online for more specific instructions on your particular board.
I had a similar problem with setting BIOS preferences after a BIOS update and I cleared the CMOS and no further problem after that time.
I will post this also as a suggestion on the board (copied from email). I would suggest to let all see the process you go through to get this fixed as others will likely have better input if this is not your problem and can see if you get this resolved and how.

Thanks to jdrober for the informative suggestion. I located the appropriate jumper, in this case J9. The default position for the jumper is across 1+2. The 'clear CMOS' jumper setting is 2+3 while the AC is disconnected. I performed this action- allowed a few minutes to pass- returned J9 to default position- END RESULT= no change. I cannot perform changes to the BIOS settings at this time. The battery is reading full voltage. My next appoach will be to disconnect AC once again, and remove the battery for an hour or so. Beyond this, I can't think of anything more to do other than find a BIOS update somewhere. I will re-post to this board if I find the solution. Anyone else that has experience with this is certainly welcomed to pipe in. To clarify, the computer boots all the way into Windows and performs fine, however, the 2nd optical drive is not seen in Windows. Thanks.

Here is an update for those that might be interested. Recap: Phoenix BIOS will not accept changes/ ie: can't boot from CD, can't get recognition of optical drives. The E-tower 667ir boots into Windows ME. I believe that the BIOS is currupt because: It will not clear using the jumper procedure, and the BIOS will not clear/ revert to default even after disconnection of AC and removing known good battery for 30 minutes.
Now I am looking for the file to FLASH the BIOS. Phoenix BIOS 4.0 release 6.0

Thanks to TD25X for finding the .rom file. Now I will have to figure out what to do with that file, but at least on the right track. The file extention contained in the .zip file is that of .rom. I believe that this contains the correct information for the previously mentioned BIOS for the 667ir BIOS. This is probably a file that can be used with an application that I am not aware of yet. My experience with flashing bios has been some sort of .exe file, probably a boot disk if I remember correctly. Hey, I am a biologist pretending to be a computer geek! :>)

Just go HERE and d/l file ana3_302.exe. Extract the files to a floppy only substitute the a3em-302.rom file for the 667IR file you previous downloaded.
Boot to a command prompt and run the flash prog.
**Be forwarned, a bad flash can kill your mobo**...but looks like you have nothing to lose....

Update: I attempted the steps for BIOS flash using the file substitution as suggested by TD25x. The boot disk was a clean W98 disk (just the 3 essential files) The error code encountered read "open failed on bios rom" I tried to run the phlash.exe from the command line, also tried to run the 'autoexec.bat' associated with the flash package.
I encountered the same error code each time. In addition I have looked at the MB for any 'write protect' jumpers- there are none. I also checked the BIOS setup for any kind of 'write protect' setting- there is none. I am, at this time concluding that the CMOS/ BIOS chip is in some way damaged. The old box still actually boots all the way into Windows, but is crippled because one of the two optical drives is not recognized, and I will never be able to boot from a CD. The old box seems to crash a lot as well. That, of course, could be an W ME situation by itself. Thank you to those that participated in this discussion.
