Matt - you're in Charlotte? I may be in your "neck of the woods" in the near future - I hope. I'm waiting to see if my 13 year old son has been accepted to a Duke University summer school program at Davidson College. He may be accepted - but whether he can attend or not is dependent on if he gets a scholarship. $2,500 for 3 weeks aint no small change!

yeah, i live about 30-45 minutes southeast of charlotte, and work in the outskirts.

$2500!? :ph43r: does the room come with its own wait staff and laundry personnel? good luck though on that.

The $2,500 includes tuition for 44 hours of class each week for 3 weeks, room and board and a staff that manages every minute of the kids time. Remember, they are managing a bunch of teenage Einstein's - ya gotta keep an eye on these kids all the time! ;)

My son wants to take Psychology for 3 weeks - he wants to know just how the human mind works so he can learn how to manipulate it ... my own little "Svengali", I'm so proud ... :ph43r:

Hope you get it. It would be a good experience for him.

Thanks Lubner - I know it would be a great experience for him. It would just be an added bonus that Mom would get a 3 week break all to herself! What a concept! :D

It just amazes me that a kid who hates middle school as much as he does, wants to go to summer school. His comment to me is, "but Mom - it's COLLEGE!". I have to keep reminding him ... College is NOT Animal House! :o

sounds like a good program, kudos to the people working it for having the skill and courage to attempt and succeed at managing large groups of just-turned-teenagers. too scary for me to think about at this hour...

We live close to the Jr. College in town and I took my 17 year old over there and introduced her to the computer lab and all the staff. Since I know a few of them they let her in the labs to do her work. It's really good for her with all those honors classes she gets a lot more resources there then we have her. At first she also thought it was a big deal but now reality set in and she know it's time to get her work done. ;)

It's a challenge to have a kid in honors classes isn't it? We didn't have "honors" when I was in school - you either did well ... or not - and that was just the 70's! Dang I feel old.

You're right about reality setting in - glad your daughter "woke up". I think my son will wake about about 2 days into the program (if he gets in) and I will get a desperate phone call telling me, "Mom! They're making us LEARN!"

Really not to bad. Anymore she know more then me. Tuesday she was inducted into Mu Alpha Theta. Next week is the National Honors Society.
BTW: You know what she wants to major in? Psychology :P
I told her she couldn't. That would be to easy. She has all the material she need right here at home.

i've known a few people go into psychology partly because they were under the impression that it would help them understand the mind of the opposite sex. yeah, sure. while the human mind is intriguing, even freud could only get so far. :P
