#2 son had knee surgery Wednesday. They found a lot more wrong than what was anticipated, but was able to correct the damage. THANK GOODNESS!
But he's all bummed out cuz he has/had the opportunity to play college football next fall and still wants too.
Hmmmm, what's more important? Being able to walk when you're 40 or playing football? Me and him is gonna have a loooong talk real soon, eyeball-to-eyeball...

To be 18-19 again, you know it all, you did it all, and you have that big "S" on your chest. We all thought we were invincible. What fools we really were.;)

My best wishes for your son's speedy and complete recovery.

I don't envy you that long heart-to-heart you need to have with him.

That's a hard one ... I mean if anyone would have told me how much pain I would be in now for playing sports in HS I would not have believed them. As it is now I wish someone had and that I had listen!

Well you can kiss my GRITS
Ask him if he would like to walk without pain or get a disabilty check for a grand total of $106.00 dollars a month "granted some of it is from military releated accident" but some is from sports related injuries in my early days in HS and Military... I would gladly give it up to be able walk up a flight of stairs without the shooting pain in my left leg and knee...

Thank heavens they've been able to fix it (at least for now). Yep, in the late teens, you sure don't want to hear that you shouldn't do something ... but the question becomes "what is it going to cost me 20 or 30 years down the road?"

Good luck with that talk, you may well need it. Maybe that conversation might well be left to either your family doctor or the surgeon who corrected the leg. They might well be able to spell out the potential better than you or the folks in the forum that may be suffering from something similar. They've dealt with such things before.

Best regards from Rochester, NY

Good news that they could fix the knee. My brother had a football
injury to his knee in high school, and the surgeries never really
worked. But they can do a lot more these days (that was probably
35 years ago, and knee surgery was in the stone age). And I hope
your boy listens to you more than my teenager. Too bad about
the football, he was pretty good as I recall --- all-state right?
Take care.
