[This continues from Saint Jude's Hospital.] Ira noted how far back everyone was in his mind before repositioning his axe to be able to strike at just the right angle. The night had been long and his back was still healing from the shadow beast attack the previous night. "Here goes..." the mutter was what broke the silence before he swung the axe down on the lock. It bounced off and threatened to fall out of his hands, but he caught his balance after half a second. Reposition. Swing again. This time, he struck with all his might. Small bits of shrapnel flew into the water, but the head of the axe blocked any from flying back to hit him and probably none hit the party. He examined what was left of the lock before taking it off and casting it into the ocean. He opened the gate. He noticed too that some of the congealed claw marks on his back had reopened. Oh well, he thought, no time to fix them now. He walked in first before turning to the rest. "I opened it. Hurry up." |

Wes laughed"I wouldn't be able to bring people to life if I wasn't a good doctor would I?" Wes was glad none of the shrapnel had hit anyone. |

Niels smiled, impressed (and a little scared). "Well, that was really something." He stepped up to the gate and the lock was completely gone, the gate was on loos hinges. It was only then that he saw the fresh blood darkening Ira's shirt. "Are you alright? We should probably have Wes check that out for you." He looked over his shoulder at Wesley, and called out, "Hay, doc, want to take a look?" |

Wes stepped up to examine Ira's wound, it wasn't to bad not very deep but it would still be a good idea to stitch it up "Give me a few minutes, I'll stitch him up" |

Ira stepped away from Wesley. "We don't have the time. Maybe on the boat." Probably not even on the boat. He would be able to make up some excuse that would get him out of it. |

Jona watched as he cut through the lock like butter almost. She suddenly recalled feeling safe back at her her dorms after the first initial attack. She had locked the door leading into her room as people went through the building looking for things to use. They had found one other female survivor in the building and never found Jona. She had decided that day she wasn't safe looking like a girl, it was also the day she had cut her hair off almost entirely and hid the hack job under her beanie, she didn't often like thinking about that day, and at that moment the memory was turned even further into terror by his simple job on the lock. Not wanting to let the group see her face she rushed past Ira as soon as the gate had been opened, "I'll go look ahead!" She called over her shoulder as she moved along the docks to try and find a boat that looked sea worthy, the first few didn't look promising the least. She looked mainly at the hull thinking that the interior wouldn't matter much so long as they had a boat. She checked most of the boast that were along the first entrance. Some boats looked like they were floating, but only just. Jona sighed as she moved past a boat which had been nearly submerged and only the ropes that had one held it from floating away now held it from sinking down to the floor. Jona looked back to see her group and seeing how they seemed distracted by Ira or something on him, she felt like it would be fine to continue down the docks. The dock itself looked in bad shaped as well, after a year of not being maintained everything in New York seemed to be falling apart. And as she walked she began to wonder whether or not the city would still be standing after five years, what would it look like in ten years.. Jona was still glancing at the boats when one caught her eye it was partial drifting free and had scrapes along the sides. But it wasn't the fact that they boat was in peril from drifting away, it was.. clean? It looked as if someone had taken care of it, not dust or weather signs at all from what she could see. "Hello?" She asked, unslinging her shot gun from her should as she approached the boat slowly. Jona assumed that there would be people aboard given the condition of the craft, "Is anyone on there?" She asked, against better judgement Jona took a delicate step onto the boat, the only part that was still tied down. She looked around the deck trying to find someone, she scanned slowly. Then she saw her first corpse. it was a man, he looked young maybe even younger than Jona herself. He could have been handsome if it wasn't for how his face had been done in. The right temple had been literally pounded in, dried blood ran from his face down his neck and into her black sweatershit, his hand rested in his lap covered in dark dried blood. One cheek still showed signs of a bruise. Then his eyes, dark and dead stared up at her. His legs were spayed out in front of one and one had been ripped into by an animal. Jona became to step back when she heard something as well. Over the water and the sounds of boats rocking, she heard a deep and threating growling. Jona froze, eyes widening in fear. Wolf. She thought, as she spun on her heels, raised her weapon, and screamed. Her scream was then drowned out but the sound of her shot gun drowned out her scream. Jona cried in pain as fangs dug into her left shoulder. With the combined weight of the creature and her unbalanced turn she fell back against the corpse. She screamed again both in horror and fear. But the wolf did not move. Jone pried the wolf off of her and began to shake. She pulled away from the corpse as well, trying not to move her left arm. She began to cry while the shivering got worse, her shoulder throbbing with pain. She looked up at the creature that had attacked her, and found it to be a dog, a normal, hungry dog. She tried not too move too much as she waited for her group to find her. |

Niels heard the scream and then the shot, so he hobbled as fast as he could (no faster than a quick walk) to see what had happened. He got to the boat and looked up, he saw Jona leaning in one of the benches, her shoulder bleeding, but she seemed to be relatively OK. It was the corps next to her was the thing that startled him, and the dead dog next to it. "Jona? Jona, are you OK?" |

"I-I-I think." Jona stammered out quickly still trying to get away from the two corpses, her hand clutching her shoulder. She sniffled as she continued crying trying to distract herself from the corpse. She found that her shoulder was bleeding but not badly, she pushed herself as far as she could manage from the boy's body, ignoring the pain in her shoulder. The dogs teeth had landed partial on her backpack strap, which had stopped her shoulder from being too badly hurt. Jona was still staring at the dead boy who had slumped over when Jona had landed on him. She pried her eyes away and looked at the dog. The thing's chest and stomach were entirely red, it was like fresh ground beef. Jona sobbed again, trying not to look at the corpse again, "D-d-d-does i-it have ra-rabies? C-check please." She asked. Trying not to shake anymore. And Failing at that entirely. |

Scarlet rushed forward, but didn't pass Niels on the small path of the dock. She didn't really know what she planned on doing, but surveying the scene was horrifying. All the blood and a dead dog. Jona was there, probably talking, but Scarlet couldn't hear anything. Suddenly, she was in water. She hadn't realized she had backed up or even moved at all, but now she was in the water and drowning. Nothing passed through her mind; not a single thought! People were supposed to remember their lives right before they died, but Scarlet's head was void. |

After the scream and Niels running(fast walking) to the dock, Wes had been slightly detracted trying to fix up Ira and hadn't been able to react as quickly. As soon as he could he bolted to the dock and was there in time to hear Jonas and Niels conversation, as well as see Scarlet beginning to drown in the water. "Ah FECK!!! Dammit Scarlet don't you know how to swim!?!" seeing that apparently she didn't Wes tossed his gun and last two grenades on the deck and jumped in the water, pulling up the drowning scarlet. after pulling her onto land Wes could see that she hadn't taken in too much water "OI Niels how badly hurt is Jona, and Jona I'll have to talk to you to see if it had rabies but give me a second cause Scarlet needs some help" Wes then started to push the water out with the Heimlich maneuver and started mouth to mouth to make sure she got oxygen as fast as possible |

Ira was last to respond to Jona's shout, out of pure apathy. He probably could have been their sooner, but he walked in the midst of the chaos. He noticed that Scarlet was missing and Wesley pulled her out of the water. All killers must keep up their facade. Jona was in the boat already and Ira was going to make a normal snide remark on how she was so ready, but noticed the blood around and decided against it. A dog-like creature lay in the shadows in the boat. "Is that a wolf or just a dog?" He hadn't fought a Corporal in several months, though this one would be juvenile, based on it's size. |

"J-just a dog." Jona stammered out a reply trying to steady her breathing. She really didn't want to seem weak but the way things had just taken place, "I-Ira could y-you get rid of the body." Jona said looking away from it, "I-I don't want it looking at me." She felt stupid but it was true the boy's corpse was still laying on its side, staring across the deck at the dead dog Ira and her. Jona tried to busy herself as she slowly and cautiously removed her back to try and look at the wound through her sweater shirt. She would ask Wesley to look at it once they got the boat moving. Jona wiped the remaining tears out of her eyes as she noticed them, she cursed them, but that was why she had avoided corpses, she never though she could handle one, and she was right. "P-please Ira." She said as she turned away from him and the body. |

Jona had tried to keep up her own facade, it seemed, of strength, but this had apparently shaken her out of it. So he was to deal with the bodies. Ira almost smiled at that thought for sheer realization, but he kept the smile to himself. He had dealt with bodies before. Ideally, he would place the blame on someone else subtly, though this time it was not of his causing and there was no need to do a good job with body disposal now that there were no more cops of forensic scientists. Shouldering his axe, Ira climbed into the boat. The dog was closest, so he decided on tossing that one first. For a brief moment, he considered saving the meat from it and possibly the human for food. Supplies wouldn't last forever. Careful. Her facade might be broken, but yours can be salvaged. He grabbed the dog by the legs and tossed it into the ocean. It fell in with a splash and Ira felt the cold water on his face. He took the two steps it took to get over to the boy. Bending and grabbing the dead man's arm and leg. He might have been pretty once, but the days-old flesh and maimed face detracted from his mien. "Up we go," the mutter was to himself, though others probably had heard it because of their proximity. As he lifted, Ira noted that the blood had weakly glued the shirt to the boat. The boy was heavy; probably twice that of his axe. A few more of Ira's congealed gashes reopened. He tossed the boy into the water. The boy sank, but he left behind him a trail of blood, swirling in the still water. |

Scarlet coughed as she sat up. Wesley appeared to have helped her. Why did she need help? Oh... right. Details were a bit fuzzy, but she seemed to be able to move everything. After standing suddenly and walking to the boat, she hoped in. Not that she didn't wasn't grateful that Wesley had saved her, but she didn't want to talk or think about her most recent failure. She had failed a lot recently. Hopefully she could change. Ira was looking overboard, Jona was still on the ground, and the others had yet to get in the boat. "So, what do we do now?" The question was surely what everyone was thinking, just voiced. |

"Thank you Ira." Jona said still not having moved. She was glad that he was there to help her in his own way, she tried to imagine what it would be like if she were alone. If she were traveling alone then she would had suffered more of a mental shock.Jona stopped crying soon after the body had been cast over. Her shoulder throbbed grabbing her attention. As she stood Jona felt unbalanced, she felt much lighter than she normally felt, it took her a second to realize that it was the first time in nearly a year she had taken off her packs. Jona still felt a crippling fear inside of her, but it was being to fade quickly, she was beginning to feel like herself. |

Niels looked at his feet, feeling unnecessary. So far today all that he was able to accomplish was nearly getting himself killed. Actually, he thought, I guess I did die, didn't I? He laughed to himself, but it was a humorless laugh, one filled with slight self loathing. "So, what do we do now?" he heard Scarlet ask. "I guess that the only thing that we can do now," he said, "Is to see how good of condition this boat is." He climbed up over the lifelines, sat with the others in the cockpit and looked around, Ira's back was bleeding, Jona's shoulder, Scarlet was still coughing up water, and he was still week from dieing. "Quite a sorry bunch we make, huh?" he asked, more to himself than anyone else. |

After helping Scarlet out of the water Wes saw Ira throw the bodies of a boy and a dog over the edge of the boat, Well I guess I won't be able to check the dog, I'll have to rely on Jonas witness of it to guess whether it had rabies Wes picked up his weapons and jumped in the boat, He began to take off his jacket and shirt to hang them to dry out, showing the scar of A.R. carved on his heart. "Alright Jona since the body ain't here, was the dog foaming at the mouth? or did it seem like it was pissed drunk?" |

"It just seemed hungry, no foam. It looked starved past the damage I did with the shot gun." Jona said trying to ignore her feelings, and keeping her eyes from staring at the scar on his chest. She shivered again, "The bite mark doesn't feel that bad it seems that or at least feels like it barely got me..." Jona said hesitant to remove her sweatshirt. She smiled shakily, "At least I found a boat right..?" Her right hand still held her shoulder, she could feel the blood but there wasnt too much, "I think ill be fine..." She said looking up at him, trying not to look shaken. |

Jolting back to reality, Ira strolled over to where Jona stood, "Well, then what the Hell are we waiting for?" Ira might want to keep his facade, but it never hurt to be harsh. "Let's get this boat working again." He hopped onto the dock again and addressed Niels. "What's the plan, boss?" If he was to get people past the small detail that he had killed people, he couldn't act as the leader. Wesley seemed like he was the medic and Scarlet and Jona were women. That left Niels. Besides, if Niels screwed up, it would be easy enough to undermine him while Wesley would be harder. |

The water below the boat lurched as Ira jumped to the dock, making her regret agreeing to the idea of a boat even more. She wanted to get back out, but that would mean copying the man. Instead, she sat down to try to comfort Jona. "It'll be fine. We're finally getting out of this dead city." Was the word really 'dead'? The new forms of life—the shadow wolves—certainly weren't dead. "No one will attack us at sea." She smiled in an attempt to calm the other woman. |

Jona sighed. She cast a final look towards the docks. Towards the city, the boy had been trying to escape as well through the seas it seemed just like they were doing now. The killer or killer had killed him and then left the boat in the harbor tied to the docks. So he was betrayed. Or so it seemed. Jona looked up at those around her, Neils, Wesley, Ira and Scarlet. Each one could kill her. But she found if they did she rather it be one of them then anyone else. She looked at Scarlet, "Thank you, Scarlet, that makes me feel better." She leaned back against the railing the boat, still holding her shoulder, it had stopped bleeding and he shirts were ruined but she wasn't about to strip down in front of everyone. She decided to try and rip the fabric open more and apply some sort of bandage on it, she reached for her back pack and fished out a box of any medical supplies she could find. She knew she should have had Wesley do it, but she started to apply the things she knew she would need. |

Niels was startled by Ira's characterization of Niels being the 'boss', and couldn't tell if he liked it or not. On one hand having support would make life easier, making decisions and whatnot. But on the other hand if anything went wrong, he would be held as the scapegoat. Well, I guess there is no saying 'no' to it now, so I'll just play along and see if Ira's trying to pull something. Niels looked at them, assessing what they would be good at. He decided that he should send people out by twos, a thing that was difficult to do because they were an odd number of people. "OK, Ira, I think that you should look for a boat, or boats, that seem to have a good amount of fuel left in them that isn't mixed with water. Wes and Scarlet, you should try to find gas cans, and a hose that we can use to carry and siphon the gas. And Jona, if you fell up to it you can help me by finding supplies after I see that the fuel in this boat is good. Any questions or suggestions?" In the end he decided that if someone had to go off without a buddy, it should be Ira, he could handle himself it seemed. |

Wes saw Jona binding her own wounds and seeing that she wasn't doing that bad of a job he left her alone to do that. It was a good idea for Ira to say Niels was the boss, if Ira got to out of hand everyone could go against him by claiming he put Niels in charge, also Niels had a fast mouth that was clearly good at delegating work. "come on scarlet lets go look" |

Scarlet stood back up and walked to Wesley. She thought about rubbing her eyes, but she was too tired to care. She hadn't been in the best of shape when meeting Ira, Niels, and Jasper and she hadn't really gotten anything besides food and a weapon since then. What had happened to Jasper? She would have asked Ira, but there was no time. "Okay, Wes." She waited to follow his lead. [Should we split two out from here and I can leave Ira here until we return?] |

Jona finished placing the quick bandage, rolling her shoulder and wincing. She was trying to gauge her range of new motion, which was limited, but workable, she could at least hold the shot gun properly, she was going to leave her packs but decided against it, she slipped her bags back over her shoulders, wincing slightly. She grabbed her sweatshirt from off the boat floor and threaded it through the straps of her back back to keep it from falling. "I think we should find food." She said to Neils as she lifted her shot gun from the floor, pulling to open to replace the expended round of the double barrel gun, she retrieved a shell from her back pack and slid it into the second barrel. As her final means of making herself more comfortable she slid her beanie off and pushed into into a pocket and ran a hand quickly through her straight and short red hair to brush it back from her forehead, missing her longer hair. Jona was glad Neils had come up with something to distract her, her sense of the world had been cut open but the sight of the boy. She knew she wasn't over the idea of seeing dead bodies yet, so she tried to think of places that food would be, but bodies wouldn't. She sighed heavily as she snapped her rifle closed, "Theres a grocery store, Its empty of anything alive save rats and spiders, Ive been there. I can show you?" |

[Sure, that sounds fine to me] [[Note: using real nautical terms that Niels probably would not know. Take it as my, Garrett's, knowledge, not his.]] "Fine," he said, looking up a Jona, "But first I want to see what is already on the boat, and then we can go." Niles watched Wes and Scarlet go, noting that she walked with slightly dragging legs and sloped shoulders, I guess I'm not the only one that could use a nap he thought to himself, deciding that they should all get some rest before they finally headed out. The boat rocked towards Niels and he climbed on as Ira walked away. He climbed over the life-rails and onto the deck. There was the aft cockpit that Jona was in, consisting of a row of bench seats on ether side of a center isle leading down to a swim-ladder. And just for of that was the actual cockpit, an inclosed area the housed the steering console, a small galley, a head and a room with a small bed. There were also cushioned bench seats in the galley area. It looks a bit like the boat from "Jaws", lets hope that a smiler scene doesn't play out here. Over all the boat looked to be in fair condition, for all he knew about boats that was, the man that was here seemed to have done a good job maintaining it, only to die and have them inherit it. He walked back out the cabin and said "Nice work finding the boat, by the way, Jona." then walked for to the bow of the boat, all the time looking at the deck, and holding onto the railing, not wanting to fall off in the cold New York harbor water. He came across a metal plate in the deck labeled "Water", it had an interesting pattern in it, an engraved line about the length and width of his pinky, and a divot on each end going in perhaps up to the luna of his thumbnail. You know what, that is probably the way that this is opened, a special tool, and I'll bet there is one on board that will open it and the fuel one. He walked to the same position on the other side of the boat and found one labeled "Diesel" and had the same pattern. So, he thought, [All I need to do is to find the correct tool. "OK, he said to Jona, climbing down the railing back to the dock, "Lets go find some food, and hopefully some water, for the trip south." He held his hand out to help her off the boat. Who said chivalry was dead? |

Jona smiled and took his hand as she stepped off the boat, "Thank you, but it was dumb luck. It just seemed like the only thing sea worthy here." Jona was surprised, pleasantly surprised, by Neils' pleasant gesture. Her feet touch the docks which seemed to sway more than the boat did, which concerned her, she pried over the edge and down into the dark waters. She wondered if the wolves had to breathe, she wouldn't be surprised if the wolves could go without breathing, and she didn't plan to find out any time soon. Jona placed the barrel of her shot gun over her good shoulder, "Tell me Neils, I've probably been with you and your group for nearly and hour maybe less, and while I'm no expert with people," She said turning slightly before taking slow steps toward the destroyed gates of the docks, "I've noticed Scarlet and the way she acts towards you, and how you ignore her advancements. If I were you I would be open to it. Are you that much of a gentleman?" She asked, trying to figure this man out a little more. |

Niels walked, slightly amused by the question, but didn't answer at first. He waited until they got off of the rickety dock and onto better, more stable ground. "I would be lying if I said that it was because I was that much of a gentlemen, but you can believe that if you want. To tell the truth though, its a bit more selfish than that." He decided to keep it at that, at least for now. If she wanted to know more she could ask, but he was fine if she didn't. A man hast to have secrets. he thought to himself, but laughed, he only had one, and he was probably going to end up telling it anyway, but he still decided to keep it to himself until asked. Besides, if I told Ira he would probably say something to the effect of "Quit worrying about your girlfriend and get as much tail as you can now, 'cause that's what she's doing and she won't have you back after she found someone better," Wes would say some Irish proverb on the subject, and Scarlet would just be plain hurt. So I'll let her think what she want's for now, he decided. |

"Can I guess?" Jona asked, she looked around her, though the buildings and cars and everything human made was decaying there seemed a little bit of life every where. It was bitter sweet to think that one day all things she knew would be gone, and replaced by new growth of trees and plants. It was the idea that the world wasn't dead yet, and that it would grow all over again. It was now she saw a brave new sprout of some kind breaking through the cement and craning toward the sun. It gave her hope. "I mean I don't like to pry, but if I can think about other things that my shoulder it would help," Jona said still not trying to overly exert her arm. She wondered if she was pushing it or if he would mined, "But, I were to guess," She said looking directly at him, trying to gain eye contact with him, "Someone that, you care about more than anyone else?" |

"Well," he said, stopping and looking at her, "Yes, that would be right. Of course now that the world has ended that's not to hard to say, but yes, even before the end..." He stood there, thinking about it all, and remembering her. It was then he realized that he couldn't remember the last thing that he said to her. He guessed that that wasn't too much of a surprise considering that they weren't planing on not seeing each other, but still, he felt bad about it, especial because he couldn't remember the last time that he said that he loved her. "It has really been the only thing keeping me going this year, the possibility that I will find her. It just wouldn't be fair to her... or to Scarlet. " Tears started welling in his eyes, so he turned to keep going and blinked them out, he had cried enough today. "But how about you, what keeps you going?" |

Jona paused, listened to his voice, as she stared at him, watching his eyes. She felt a sense of regret from him, she almost felt bad fro bringing it up it was obviously a touchy subject, but then he went on to say how she was keeping him moving, kept him going during the course of a year, and it made her smile, it was then that she realized that she wasn't the only crazy person who loved someone in this bizarre new world. "Its only fair I suppose, I owe you an answer now," Jona said quietly, "Well.. I have reason to believe my parents are alive, so I keep looking for them." She looked down at her feet as she aimed for a broken piece of cement. A sudden fear rose in her, she realized that she was grouped with a man who bases his first impressions on religion, a crazy man, a very solidly straight man, and an equally straight woman. She realized that they might not accept her, appetite as readily as they did, Jona herself. She knew of people's narrow minded approach to her before, was she really willing to test to see if these people were different? But Jona didn't want to continue hiding in fear of what others thought and she had proved that she could survive on her own so she decided on a whim of self respect she stated softly, "I also hope that someone I love is alive, even if she wants nothing to do with me." |

Jona said the last part so softly that he barley herd her over the sound of the water, and left it at that. Until, that was, he comprehended what she meant by "...if she wants nothing..." He glanced over at her, really accessing her wardrobe for the first time, had she done it to divert attention to the fact that she was a girl, or had she done it because that's how she always did it. Short of asking, however, he could only speculate, and he didn't feel like asking, it might not be the right thing to do. So he took it in stride, deciding that if she was lesbian, which seemed implied, that there was nothing that he could do about it, and no reason to try. "Why would she want nothing to do with you?" he decided was the safest thing to say to not make it feel like he judged her, better then "What, was she not lesbian too?" "You seem like a nice enough person, I don't see why she wouldn't be happy to see you." |

Jona smiled relieved that he hadn't reached too badly. She did, though, notice his reassuring glance, or look. But she didn't mind much at all. She had dressed but before the attack, while she didn't want anyone staring at her, she did have a sense of self pride. Her first week scared her out of the habit however. She turned and continued walking in the general direction of the super market. "I told her and she... wans't comfortable around me, eventually told everyone, " Jonas said with a shrug, then wince as she moved her shoulder, "Anyway I haven't heard from her in about almost five years. Anyway, I hope shes alive just cause it makes things brighter." |

"...Well..." he said, not quite knowing what to say, it was hard to believe that Jona could have feelings for this person who seemed like one of the kids he had to grow up with. Of course Niels' own experience with people had not been great, and, call him crazy, didn't really like people who were mean to him. He finally decided to go with something that somewhat comforting, if not a little overused in movies. "I'm sure that, with the world ending and all, she will be happy to at least see someone that she knows, and who likes her." All the time that they had been talking they had been walking to a building with a sign that stated that it was the "Marina Bait and Beer Shop", and he personally hoped that it had something other then rotten bait and spoiled beer. He looked into one the old broken windows, and saw rows of fishing poles and tackle, he looked through another and saw chips and jerky and other canned goods. "Well, I guess this is the best place to start looking." |

Jona nodded. The store was in good shape considering the one year it stood without anyone to fix it up. The glass was covered in thick layers of dust, but only one window was broken. Jona promptly walked up to the glass front doors doors moved her shotgun to hold it more like a club and smashed in the glass door, "After you." She said gesturing for him to continue through the now broken glass door. |

He walked in, kicking some of the shards that were left at the bottom of the door. The building was dreary and dust was floating everywhere, and it made him sneeze. He sniffed to get the weird feeling out of his nose and smell, what he supposed to be, the food and bait that had gone bad. Ignoring the smell as best he could, he walked over debris that littered the ground to the caned goods. He heard a growl coming from the right of him, and, surprisingly enough, he wasn't scared, more annoyed then anything else. His first thought was to grab his gun, but he then remembered that it was broken in his backpack, so he dodged/fell behind a wall as the wolf jumped passed him. "Jona!" he called, "We've got a wolf in here, get it!" |

Jona squeaked but did not falter, Her gun was still being held as a club and not able to react fast enough to hold it properly, and with a deranged wolf head straight towards her, its body part shadows part flesh, all she could do was pull the but of the gun back over her shoulder, holding it as if it were a baseball bat and swung forward as hard as she could. The wolf, not showing much enough emotions to fully understand what it was thinking, did in fact try to stop itself, it skidded across the dust covered tiles. It was to late to turn back for the wolf, and Jonas yelled, caught up in the moment, "Home run!" Just as the but of the shot gun collided with the wolf muzzle, smashing the bones in entirely. The wolf's body continued forward from momentum, but the head was flung backwards as Jona followed through with the swing. The body did a slight flip in the air before landing upon the street, dead. Jona winced in pain and nearly dropped her gun as she grabbed her shoulder. |

While Niels was recovering from his short dive onto his bad arm he heard a loud smack of wood hitting shadow-flesh and Jona yelling "Home Run!", so he picked himself up and dusted himself off, assuming after something like that that the wolf would be dead, or at least severely crippled. He walked over so he could see Jona and the wolf, and noticed that she was holding her shoulder. "Are you OK?" he asked, looking at the wolf (It certainly wasn't). However, instead of waiting for an answer, he took off his backpack and started to shovel all sorts of canned goods into it. |

Jonas shrugged with her uninjured shoulder, sill holding the other with her hand as if to stop the flash of pain. "I probably shouldn't have done that but I'm going to live." She said quickly moving over the remains of the wolf and over the shattered glass. She felt better about herself for dispatching the wolf, made her feel better about her mishap with the dog, She walked further down the isles and opened up her back. The pain now gone from her shoulder, she used both hands to pry open the old broken and non functioning refrigerator, where she pulled out the decent looking water bottles, "How long do you think we will be out there in the water?" She asked looking at the water bottle to make sure the seals hadn't been broken. |

[[Dude, you need to prof-read these things, please.]] He looked over and saw that she was grabbing water, "I don't really know... A few days..? I would say just grab as much as we can, no point in moderating ourselves just to have us die out there." He had grabbed everything worth taking off of the shelves and had an armful of food, including the stuff in his pack. "Well, I have everything that I can carry, just finish grabbing stuff and we'll head back. If were gone too much longer Ira'll be liable to try and leave without us." he laughed, but stopped when he caught a glimpse of something from the corner of his eye. He walked over to it and saw that it was an old fishing knife, easily ten inches long and slightly curved, in a leather sheath. He put the cans down and took it out, it was a little rusty, but over all in good shape, so he jammed it in his pocked and picked up the cans again. |

Jona made as much room as she could manage in her pack. The more water the better, she thought as she lifted as many as she could comfortably carry in her arms. In total she estimated she was carrying twenty or so water bottles varying in size, "We can stop along the shore line to pick up other things along the way right?" She asked him as she stood with her load of bottles, "Or is it a one stop trip?" |

"Well, I don't see why we wouldn't be able to stop along the way, especially since we don't really have a time that we have to be in Atlanta. After all, it's just another place to be other than here." Niels backed out of the building, keeping the door open with his back for her. "I just hope that the weather holds, I don't think that this is prime condition for boating around these parts." They walked down the sidewalk that they had gone up, back to the boat. |

Jona nodded her agreement, casting her eyes to the sky for a moment before following after him. The water was heavy but she managed well enough. "How long have you been traveling with Ira, Scarlet and Wesley?" She asked hoping to avoid an awkward silence between them as they traveled back with the goods. Jona didn't mind silence before everything. She used to avoid people just to be alone. But since the attack, Silence hadn't been comfortable, it reminded her of how the people she once avoid were gone. She knew that would turn her into a chatter box, but she was realizing how good it felt to be around others. |

"Wow, has it only been that long?" he said to himself before answering, "Well, actually, I met Ira and Scarlet only yesterday, and Wes not long before you. Plus with Scarlet she was unconscious most of the time at first, and with Wes it was me that was unconscious." They were both lagging a bit from the weight of their packs and him with his injury, but they were closing in on the dock. He went though the ruined gate and stumbled down the gangway to the dock, but stopped once he got to the bottom, "Listen, I just wanted you to know..." what was he going to say "Keep an eye out for Ira, I don't trust him", no he dicided, lets keep the trust in the group. "I won't tell any of the others about you... if you don't want." |

"I'm not ashamed of it, but I'm not sure about how the others would react. I think Wesley would freak, and Scarlet would be weirded out to be around me," Jona said giving a lopsided frown, "I would appreciate if you didn't say anything. Thank you." Jona felt her trust with Neils rising, this also came with a sense of freedom that someone knew. She didn't feel like she needed to hide as much anymore. Which was strange because she felt she as if she had been hiding for most of her life. The thought gave her pause, but she shook it off before they reached their vessel. |

On the boat Wes was having trouble, while siphoning fuel for the boat and looking for anything around the docks that looked useful he and Ira had been attacked by some raiders. Luckily they used melee weapons, they had s slashed Wes on the arm and head hit Ira over the head. "Damnit Ira wake up" After the initial attack Wes had rolled off the dock with Ira and were now hiding under where the dock meets the shore. Wes didn't have his gun because he left it with his clothes to dry, Ira didn't have his weapon either because they weren't too far from their boat. "God damn I can't believe i was dumb enough to leave me weapon and so soon after just meeting these people, I'm goin soft too fast. God if I make it out of this I'm bringing it everywhere" Wes had counted four raiders, but it was a hasty count, on the bright side he had gotten a good swing on one of them. But making it out of this seemed like it would be tricky |

Ira's eyes opened. He blinked. That last blow to his head had caused him to go under for a couple minutes or something. He wasn't really sure how long it had been, but things hadn't changed all that much. It seemed as if the dock swayed under him, but then he realized that was just his head. "Damn." His vision was too blurry to let him do anything safely, but when had he ever cared about safety? "Okay, I think this is where we cut the untrusting crap and just kill some of these bastards. They know we're here, so we should try to regain–" Before Ira could finish, he felt the dock moving in a pace steady with the footsteps that had drawn closer. "Never mind," were the two words cast out through clenched teeth as he stood and pulled the raider down, slamming his head into the beach. Ira reached for the gun, but the raider got his hand there first. After a quick struggle of only strength, Ira managed to pry the gun free. He fired two shots into the man. "Check him." He left for what unspoken. Staying low, Ira waded into deeper water as stealthily as he could until he was close enough to get a clean shot on two of the others. The first one was flawless, but he missed on the second one. "Damn!" |

Scarlet peered over the edge of the boat she was hiding on in horror. Six raiders had attacked Ira and Wesley. Perhaps she should have shouted. After all, she was the lookout. But they had snuck from a part of the complex she had not been looking at. Maybe she should help, but she didn't have a weapon. Granted, Ira and Wesley had left theirs at the boat, but they could use their normal strength of which she had none. She stopped watching and lay on her back, closing her eyes and trying to remain invisible. |

Niels wasn't really sure what was going on, all he knew was that he heard shots fired, but didn't see Wes, Scarlet, or Ira anywhere. "Shit!" Niels cursed and dropped his pack, yelling for Jona to drop as he did. He crawled to the edge of the side walk and peered over the side. He saw a figure in the water, and it looked like Ira. He saw as Ira fired the gun, hitting one of five men on the dock. He couldn't tell what type of weapons the raiders had, so he crawled closer to the dock, signaling Jona to follow him. |

Jona crouched quickly, she turned away from whatever fighting was happening, not especially looking forward to seeing more dead people. But alas Neils motioned for her to follow him closer to the docks, she began to tremble as she thought of being involved in the fighting. In her past year of traveling she tried to avoid any conflict that she could, save the shadow wolves. And here she was following Neils towards an actual fight between two opposing groups. She grimaced and crawled after him, bringing her shotgun forward as she trie dto keep up. She wasn't going into the unprepared, she only hoped she wouldn't have to harm anyone. |

The salt stung his wound, but he wasn't going to let that distract him from the job at hand. He pulled himself up just high enough to look over the docks, then moved towards one of the raiders who was on his own. In one fluid motion Wes stood up grappled and snapped the other mans neck, stole the gun, then dove back into the sea. Unfortunately it was his shooting arm that was injured. |

Wesley had taken out the man Ira had missed and now, presumably, he had a gun too. Sticking close to the dock, Ira nodded to Wesley before jumping up onto the dock. He took in the positions of the remaining men. One was on the same section. He aimed for the head, hit, and rammed his back to one of the pilings. Three shots skimmed the edge, but none of them hit Ira. Ira darted to a second piling, shooting where the other men had been shooting from. One fell into the water. Ira glanced around. Niels and Jona were crawling out of the boat they were to take. There was also no gunfire. Are they just waiting? Did Wesley kill the rest? He risked a glance out. One of the men was edging around to try to get a better angle. He wasn't far away. Ira could make that shot. He whipped around the piling and shot. Well, tried to. What actually happened was the gun clicked. The other man shot at Ira, catching him square in the right shoulder. He fell onto his back and several of the wounds reopened again. Rage filled him. He rolled into the water, the salty sting proving to him he was still alive. He began to swim to the side of the boat, though it was an awkward swim. |

(Im just gonna try and sort this out and just assume everyone is in the boat alright?) "What the hell was that all about," Jona asked, a little stunned at the speed of the firefight. More than a little stunned that it had happened at all. She huddled within the boat, their boat now, not looking at any of the bodies that she would see if she looked out and over the railings. It seemed that only Ira and Wesley had exchanged with the other people, and had received wounds. Jona had brought forth her medical kit from her bag and handed it to Wesley, knowing he would be the most capable to use it. Jona felt a little sick due to the fact that she had seen most of the blood shed on her desperate need to get to the boat. She felt herself shaking and damned herself for being so weak, she told herself to grow up and face her new life, but the thought of those... people out there would face the same fate as the boy she had fell onto while entering the boat to begin with. Well it nearly paralyzed her with fear. So there she sat, scared and shaking. But not weeping like a child. |

Niels looked up from his feet and answered Jona, "They were doing the same thing that we were, except that they weren't being nearly as peaceful. But who can blame them, they were just trying to survive, like everyone else in this God-forsaken world." The problem was that Niels did blame them, blamed them for jumping at the chance of a fight, when words would have worked, blamed them for their loss of what little humanity anyone had left. He looked at Jona, her terror clearly visible. He decided that they needed to get her out, she seemed close to a complete breakdown, and that would bad... very bad. "Did you two get what we needed you too, because if so I think that we need to get out of here as soon as posible." |

Ira reached a boat that he desperately hoped was the boat they were to take. He pulled himself over the side and onto the deck, where he lay for a few seconds. The swim had left his shoulder in too much pain to use. He forced himself to roll over onto his back. He glanced around. There were a few bodies on the boat. One had a dark hair color, another had blonde hair and there were two others he couldn't really make out. He crawled to one and forced the head to the side. It wasn't any of his comrades. "Good. I actually thought they might have been dead." He grabbed the dagger that one of them still had, clutched in his hand. It was time to chance a glance over the edge. So, dagger in hand, Ira moved himself to the edge of the boat. He popped his head up. |

The gunfire had stopped and she had to return to her friends. She sat herself up. The only problem was that she didn't know how to get to her boat anymore. She peered over the edge and saw a man staring at her. She jumped a little and thought she was about to die, but then she realized it was Ira. Thank God. She made hand motions for him to get over into her boat. |

Scarlet was over there, just on the other side of the stretch of docking. He glanced around to see where everyone else was. There was no sign of Wesley, but Jona and Niels seemed to be in the first boat, a few docks away. There were three more men in the way though. He checked the other bodies but found no weapons. Damn." Ira darted across the dock, staying as low as he could. He crawled into the other boat. "Well, we're still alive." The statement was obvious but Scarlet would hopefully remain silent. So Scarlet can't swim and we can't just run across the docks. There would be only one way to do this. "Scarlet, you sure you know how to drive a boat? Oh, and I'm going to need my gun back." |

Well now i had a gun, was safe in the water, and was no longer surprised by what was happening. Now he could gain control. His gun had seven bullets and Wes only saw three men. His wounded arm left blood in the water and the salt stung, but he had learned to deal with pain and there was so much blood already that no one would be able to see him from that. He swam slowly near the docks, pulled up onto shore under the docks, then in a surprise move jumped up fired four bullets. Two per man, there was still one left so he ducked into the water while the last man turned to the shore, with the mans back to him Wes unloaded the rest of the clip into the mans back. That was the last of them. |

Jona flinched with every shot that was fired. Taken completely off guard as the docks erupted into a din of violence. She didn't try to look, not really keen on seeing who had been shot. Some how she was certain her companions had been the ones firing. She was not convinced that that certainty was a good thing. |

[I am so sorry I haven't posted here in so long... I feel really guilty because I completely forgot about this topic.] Scarlet looked the man in his large ebony eyes and responded with a meek, "I don't think we need to. Wes just killed the last of them." She broke the gaze and reached for the borrowed firearm. She handed it back despite the recent change in plans. "Here's this back, anyway." She waited for the giant of a man to take the pistol from her. |

Ira took the gun from Scarlet with ferocity and a grumbled, "Doesn't that kid know that I always get the last..." In truth, the elaborate plan he had concocted of shooting from a boat would have both been difficult and dangerous. Difficulty stemming from the lack of drive-bys Ira had been involved with as of late and dangerous as it would have drawn attention to them. Fun as it would be, probably not the best plan. "Come on Scarlet. We should check on Jona and Niels; make sure they're not dead." His voice was back to the calm it had been before the fight—perhaps calmer. It was odd that killing served as a drug to him these days, but he wasn't about to complain. He hopped out of the boat and began to walk towards the boat they would take to the south. |

Niels was angry with himself. Though he had no gun, and a rather severely wounded arm, he felt like he should have done more to help. The fight had seemed to end, but he wasn't sure that everyone was OK. He climbed out of the cabin of the boat and looked around. What he saw was a couple dead bodies and Ira and Scarlet walking towards the boat. Wes was nowhere to be seen... "Ira! Scarlet! Are you OK? Where's Wes?" he yelled over to them. |

Ira's back ached and he was sure that anything that had scabbed over the night was now torn open again. It had probably been torn for a while, but the adrenaline had kept his mind from it. "Fine." It was more of a grunt than a word, but it was still probably understandable. "But these damn cuts are a bitch." He stopped at the side of the boat and took a breath. "Dunno where Wes is. I think there are probably more coming, though. We should get the Hell out of here or restock on bullets." |

Wes swam to our boat and climbed onto the deck, his first order of business was to fix his arm. He had heard people, but the water had garbled the words. No one else seemed to be on the boat with him, but he couldnt be sure, he grabbed his own gun from his bag and he grabbed medical supplies too. As he started to bandage himself he kept his gun close and watched for both enemies and allies silently. |

Jona stuck close to Neils. She glanced nervously at Ira as they approached meeting at the boat. Several of her companions were wounded. She could see including herself. But her should was nothing to be concerned about, her allies were hurt. "We need to get you fixed up." She said to no one in particular, pushing past her fears. She boarded the boat. Which to her surprise she found Wes accompanied by a small jump. But he was hurt, that's what mattered right now. They all were hurt in some way.. She crouched and pointed the gun he held at the floor of the boat before helping him tend to his wounds. "Ira and Neils, you need something on those wounds, Come here and I'll help you." Jona grimaced, her worries and terror washed away with whatever need drove her to fix these barbarians. |

Ira stepped onto the boat and sat in the driver's seat. He tried to speak; to say he didn't need help, but he blacked out and woke up a couple seconds later on the deck. Okay, so maybe he did need help. He crawled over to Jona, reluctant, but Niels hadn't exactly done a good job stitching him up last night. Maybe Jona would be better at it. "Any experience?" Ira managed through gritted teeth. The truth was that he was losing his adrenaline and that was causing him to go into shock. He fought to maintain control; to maintain the facade. |

"Not much," Jona admitted sheepishly. The closest experience she ever had with stitching up someone was actually being able to sow. It worried her, as she knelt closer to Ira, that what she knew wasn't enough, but as she looked closer at the wounds. Something told her that whatever she knew how to do would be better for him than just lying there in more pain. She looked over the wounds, telling Ira to lay down flat against the boat's floor so she could see the gashes better. She started with the first thing she knew she would need to do, she started with the disinfecting and cleaning of his wounds. They honestly didn't think they looked better even when clean. She shuddered, imagining how he had received such wounds. But she was stalling and with hesitant hands she retrieved from her medical kit the thick thread, Sutures, she vaguely remembered, "Ira, I-I don't have any numbing stuff, so this will probably hurt." She said quietly, feeling a little squeamish. But, her.. friend needed help she gritted her teeth and started in on closing the wounds. |

Scarlet, who had followed Ira back to the boat and gotten in with everyone else, sat on the edge of the boat. All she could do now, though, was look away from Jona stitching Ira up. "Niels," she said, trying to avoid looking at Ira in pain on the floor of the boat, "What's the plan now?" She was feeling sick again, but it was probably a combination of the sea and the blood. "I think the stick thing is probably downstairs. I'll go look." By stick thing, she meant the tool for opening the gas tank. She darted past Ira and went down the stairs to the lower deck. She was below deck, which was worse for her seasickness, but the blood was distanced from her now. She began to rummage through the stuff the previous owner had left. |

Ira, for once, actually did as he was told. Lying on the floor of the boat, he grimaced as the needle penetrated his skin time and time again. It was agonizing, but necessary. With almost every stitch, he let out a curse, at first under his breathe, and then louder towards the end. When Jona was done, he just lay there, panting from the pain. "Thanks." He finally managed. He even half meant it. Yes, it had been painful, but now he could heal. Hopefully he wouldn't need to fight anything on trip to the south. |

Jona sighed shakily as she sat back, 'Just don't go undoing all my hard work." She said with a forced smile. She considered Ira for a moment. He acted cold and brutal, which due to his display earlier she didn't doubt. But despite what he wanted people to believe he still protected his allies, including her, so he didn't hate them, or they could have just been there during his fight for his survival. Jona wanted to believe more of Ira. Give him credit for ultimately protecting everyone. She sighed before standing with the first aid kit, she wants sure what to think about him. But for now, He would be a mystery to her. Neils still needed someone to look at his arm. |

Niels stood with his back to Ira and Jona, looking at the mouth of the harbor. "I guess that we can get going, just as soon as everyone is ready and the boat is ship-shape." He glanced over his shoulder towards Ira, and griminess when he saw that he was covered in blood. Looks like Ira will be out of commission for a while... Damn, I hope we don't get attacked by pirates or something. Under normal circumstances he would have laughed at the thought of pirates, but this time... |

Ira moved to the side of the boat slowly. It was true that he had been straining himself lately, but they would be safe at sea. Well, hopefully at least. He could heal in the few days it took to get to the other side of the east coast and be ready to fight any Corporeals that came his way in Atlanta. There must be shadow wolves in Atlanta, right? He closed his eyes and just let things happen for once. His exhaustion had finally caught up with him. If they were attacked, Wesley would want to be all heroic anyway. Whatever. |

Scarlet came back to the deck where bloodstains from Ira still covered the deck. She looked away and held the stick she had found to Niels. "Here, I found this. It should be useful in getting the fuel tank open!" Then, seeing Jona ready to fix Niels's arm, she brought the stick back to herself and waited. |

Wesley wanted to helps his companions by fixing them up, but because of how his arm was there was no way he would have been able to hold the needle needed to stitch up Ira, so he was glad when Jona showed enough proficiency with a needle to do the job. Ira would need to be looked after to make sure his wound didn't get infected. They all would need to be looked after for that reason. While everyone was being worked on Scarlet had managed to find what was needed to get this ship going and Wes agreed with Neils, we can get going, off to Atlanta. |

Scarlet decided to set the pole down next to the gas hatch and buckets. She went to the wheel of the boat. "We going to get going, then? I think I can get her out of here, if someone unties her, of course." She sat in the driver's chair and played with the dusty bobble-head baseball player that had been left there from a time when the world was not in the state it was. |

Neil's arm was not, by far, as bad as Ira's back. She worked slowly and thoroughly to make sure, while they still had the chance, that it would heal properly. But when she was finished he looked good as new, save of course for the bandage. "Scarlet are you hurt?" She asked as she moved on to Wesley, "So Mister Religion, how bad are you off? And how can I be of service?" She still was rather wary of Wesley, given their first meeting, but she still gave him a soft smile. But she knew he was good with medicine, and she rather him not die, weather it was out of worry fro him or simply because he was human. And hwile she was on a roll.. |

Scarlet looked to Jona and shook her head. "Nope. I stayed hidden." She sounded almost proud of herself, and she would have been if she had been of some use. Turning back around to the console, she examined the controls. She was a little rusty, but remembered most of them from lessons she had been forced into by her father. Odd that those skills she learned in a month would be more important to her and not the skills she learned from years of acting classes. Perhaps she should have listened to her father more. "Haha Mr. Religion? I guess you can call me that if you want, I don't care what your religion is. As long as it's not a specific one. I am fine, just my arm is hurt and that's not too bad. It shouldn't take too long to heal, in the mean time do what I can't and take care of everyone. Now if the mission was a success, then we have some gas so lets get this boat to the sea" Wes would not miss this city, he had finally met some survivors, not just patients. These people could take care of themselves instead of just being taken care of by him like those in the hospital. Once they hit the high seas they would get a chance to rest and heal before going for there goal. |

Scarlet finished locating all of the controls and nodded sharply. "Is there gas in this thing?" She turned the ignition switch and it started, so there must have been some gas. She looked back to Niels, the only one who wasn't either on the ground in pain or in need to some other form of medical attention. "Wanna take care of the rope?" |

Jona nodded, stepping back and away from Wesley. She stood awkwardly on the deck her hands fidgeting. She was still unnerved by what had happened in such a short time. She needed to keep her mind off of... everything. So when Scarlet spoke up, requesting Neils to accomplish something. She took over. She knew little to nothing about boats, as far as driving or caring for them. But She got the basic gist of launching a boat. And as for gas, so long as she could find the nozzle she could get the gas into the boat. "I'll do it," She said, maybe a tad quickly, before moving to the nearest gas canister. It took her a little while, no one seemed to mind much, until she found the boat's nozzle. And soon the first can was emptied. She been left sitting hold the canister so it would pour easily, which gave her time to think, which is something she didn't want to do, so she only emptied one before starting in on undoing the bounds at the dock. Jona decided that it was time to revisit her Journal, as he finmgers worked the ties in the ropes. Maybe write an entry. Or something. She brought the rope into the boat assuming they would be needed. Jona shoved the boat away from the docks to her best abilities, her bitten shoulder stung, but she ignored it, as best she could. She left the rest to scarlet, before sitting against the railings of the boat and closing her eyes as she held the straps of her packs. Which she still wore. She would write later. During the trip, now though, it seemed lie a good time to rest. |

Niels was a bit embarrassed that he had not really done much of anything helpful. Before he really knew what what happening Jona had emptied a can of diesel and untied the boat, while he had just been there doing who knows what. He stood up and walked next to Scarlet, "Just get us out of the harbor and I can take over if you want. It doesn't look to hard." In the mean time he went down below and took off his back pack, emptying it of the supplies that he had gathered with Jona. There was what looked to be a small galley on one corner of the boat, and when he looked inside the cupboard there were some cans of food left, so he just pushed them back and placed what he had found in front of them. He also located an ice chest and put the water in that. He walked back above and looked out in front of them, they seemed to almost be out of the harbor, so he just sat down and watched Scarlet pilot the boat. It really didn't look any harder than driving a car, he would be able to do it if need be. |

[Here. Have this post. Sorry, I know it's quite late. Just have it for what it is.] When Niels came close to her, she felt the strong desire to reach out and hold his hand, but she resisted. "I think I can steer for a while at sea." Her words were vapor in the air, not quite wanting to form; not quite wanting to be gone. Scarlet kept both hands on the wheel and when Niels left, she felt the cool prick of goosebumps begin to infect her otherwise smooth arms and neck. She kept her eyes off of Niels while she carefully finessed the boat out of port. It had been years since she had done this, but it came back to her with a sort of natural ease, and by the time Niels was back up, they were already mostly out of the docks. She was suddenly hyper-aware that he was staring at her, but she couldn't bring her gaze to rest upon his beautiful face, instead offering up a clearly fake line just for the purpose of hearing his voice again. "So, how was it down there?" She almost regretted it after saying it, but wanted very much for the man to speak; to say anything to her. She hadn't been this infatuated since she had been in high school and even then just barely. Niels was capable, strong, good at leading, and sweet. He was the perfect man. |

"Huh?" he asked. He had been spacing out and only then did he realize that he had been staring at her. That had probably made Scarlet a bit uncomfortable, and she had probably just wanted to talk to him to get him to stop. "Oh," he blushed, now comprehending what she had said, "About the same, I guess... Nobody had died anyway, though Ira is a bit irate." He laughed sheepishly at his joke, but stopped before long when he saw she was not. He noticed that she seemed unable to look at him. Not surprising, she had probably been more help during the fight than him, so she must have some feelings of ill repute about him being the "leader". In fact, he had been all but useless over the last few days, especially so after he was attacked by the shadow wolf. He gave a dejected sigh and sat down in the cabin, muttering a soft sorry to her. |

Scarlet kept her eyes on the water as she took the boat more out to see. "That's good." She heard herself say in response to the first part of what Niels had said, completely missing the second thing he said. Not wanting to sound dumb, she refrained from asking what it had been. She finally looked at the back of his head as he walked away back into the cabin. She bit her lip, wishing things had gone better in that moment. Why did she always need to be so obnoxiously bad at everything? Scarlet, despite having poor feelings for herself, managed to get the boat out to sea and a great distance towards the south. In fact, she was unsure of anything happening around her or even how long it took to get to the port in Georgia, but eventually they were there. She was quite surprised, really, about how she hadn't needed a single rest and how she had been able to make it there without getting lost. [Okay, guys, good job. We've finished this leg of the story. Our story continues in "Opening Communications: The Congregation."] |
