AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - A Dutch court has convicted two youths of theft for stealing virtual items in a computer game and sentenced them to community service. Only a handful of such cases have been heard in the world, and they have reached varying conclusions about the legal status of "virtual goods." The Leeuwarden District Court says the culprits, 15 and 14 years old, coerced a 13-year-old boy into transferring a "virtual amulet and a virtual mask" from the online adventure game RuneScape to their game accounts. "These virtual goods are goods (under Dutch law), so this is theft," the court said Tuesday in a summary of its ruling. Identities of the minors were not released. The 15-year-old was sentenced to 200 hours service, and the 14-year-old to 160 hours. |

ok first wow lol, second a quote that fits for this situation from fable 2 O.o ''If someone is stupid enough to follow us here, they deserve to die in the most gruesome of manners.'' (if anyone has played fable 2 they will understand this fully ^_^) if someone is stupid enough to fall for this sort of trick, it is the same as someone walking up to you in the middle of the street and saying ''May i see your wallet i promise i'll give it back'' would you do that? (i would hope not) If they literlly ''hacked'' his account it would be one thing. Hopefully this situation will make people think twice before trying to do steal something from someone in a video game. |

So tricking someone into getting scammed is OK like leaving a 1 pt trade on CollecToons and that person accepts it... but if the scammer hacked, its wrong. |

Not fully saying that it is fine, but some of these ''scams'' are easy to tell that they are scams just by reading the RS rules, for example (had this one happen) ''Can i try on your d legs, i want to see how they look on me'' now this was a friend of mine on RS, at the time i didn't know his account got hacked and this was just some hacker/scammer trying to steal something from people on this person's friend list. I didn't give him anything and he kept asking, it isn't hard to tell if something like this is a scam. The scammers deserved what they got, but just about all scams are simple ''i will make your armor gold tinted'' if it is a amulet, person may have said ''i will enchant your amulet to make it stronger'' Players really need to realize there is alot of scammers out there that will try every trick in the book to get a item from you. |
