It's similar to Civilization and Sim City. It's pretty simple to play and it's fun. The game is slow but it's designed that way. When you get more colonies and research academies the wait times go down.
The game world is constant, your people gather resources/gold/carry out attacks ect 24/7. So when you log in and check it you'll have resources gathered from the time you were logged off.(if you set them to do that). It's a basic strategy game that anyone can learn and be good at.
