P2P guide is in the works... Made with help from Jkurock So, you just started playing Runescape, and you know nothing about it. This guide is here to help F2P players just starting out along the way to becoming a succesful Runescape member. Just starting out? You just arrived in Lumbridge Castle for the first time, so what should you do FIRST? First of all, kill a goblin or two across the bridge next to Lumbridge Castle using your Bronze sword. You should get a few gold pieces, or GP. Next go to the General Store in Lumbridge, labeled with a pot on the circle map above your invetory. Buy a Newcomer map. Next you should use the map to find your way to Draynor Village. I recommend using the road to Draynor, instead of the dirt path behind the Lumbridge Castle, to avoid the aggresive level 26 Jail Guards. Once you get to Draynor, look on the circle map for a building labeled with a $ sign. That is a bank. Store all of the items you recieved in the tutorial, except for your Bronze sword and Wooden shield, then make your way back to Lumbridge. Now it's time to finally start training your stats. You should first start out with Combat. Train on either goblins or men and women in Lumbridge. MAKE SURE you train nowhere but Lumbridge for a while, so if you die you may have a chance of retrieving what you lost. Train your attack, defense, and strength skills equally for now. Once you gain a new level, move on to the next of the 3 skills, and so on. To switch combat styles (for gaining experience in different combat skills) go to the Double Swords icon on your inventory. Accurate style increases Attack XP, Aggresive style increases Strength XP, and of course Defensive Style increases Defense XP. You can also view your Combat level on the Double Swords page, which is one of the most important skills in the game. Your combat level increases as your combat skills increase. Your combat skills are Attack, Defense, Strength, Hitpoints, Prayer, Ranging, and Magic. Ranging and Magic do not effect it as much as the first 5. When your combat level is around 10 from fighting Lumbridge NPCs (non player characters) with melee. Your ready to move on. Exploring Runescape Runescape is a massive area, and will take a while to fully get a sense of direction, even for free players. Once you have around a level 10 combat, start exploring. The Newcomer map you've bought before is very useful. Stay on the paved paths for now. The official World Map is also useful for locating smaller towns and exact locations, but does not show where your player is. Using a combination of these two maps, explore the free world. There are some places that you as a new explorer should STAY AWAY from, though. They are listed below. WILDERNESS- This is the main place you should stay away from. If your about to enter the Wilderness (where other players can attack you) you'll recieve a warning message, there will also be signs all around. Heed this warning and turn back. If you look on the official map, the Wilderness is slightly north of Varrock, Edgeville, Falador, and other northern towns. Stonehenge- This area is located south of Varrock. Although small, it can present a threat to newer players. Dark Wizards like to hang out there. Don't be fooled by their combat level of 7, they can use spells up to Fire Strike, which can hit 6 damage to your HP. Draynor Jail- This area near Draynor Village is crawling with Jail Guards, level 26 NPCs that are aggressive to new players. They carry a steel mace which can hit 4. Watch out for these. The trail behind Lumbridge Castle (a popular spot to cut trees for new players) also leads to it. Desert- Besides Al-Kharid, the open desert can be dangerous. It has lots of level 14 Scorpians, just waiting to kill you. Barbarian Village- You do not neccesarily have to avoid this place, but do not talk to any of the barbarians. Just talking to them, will make them attack you. They are level 10. What to Wear So what should you have when wandering Rune Scape? Well, there's many choices. You can buy melee armor, which consists of a Helmet (either medium or full), Platebody, and Plate Legs. This is the best way for free members to start out. Once you've accumulated a few GP, go to a Varrock bank in Worlds 1-5. We're going to try to buy Full Bronze Armor. Simply yell out "buying full bronze" until you get a trade request in the chat box. Right click on the player and press "trade." Then you'll go to the trade screen. They will offer up Full Bronze Armor, and then you should offer a good 200 GP. If they accept, you just bought yourself some armor. Armor gives combat stat bonuses. You can view these bonuses and compare them on the little man icon next to your inventory. This is also where you can view what armor you have on. You can also get other types of clothing such as Ranging Equipment, Magic Robes, and fancy clothing from Random Events. Starter Skill Training Combat isn't the only skill on Runescape! There's many skills waiting for you try out. Some skills are for paying members only. They are Agility, Herblore, Fletching, Slayer, Farming, and Construction. You won't be able to train these. The skills you will be able to train (as you learned in the tutorial) are Prayer, Ranging, Magic, Mining, Smithing, Woodcutting, Fishing, Cooking, and Firemaking. You can also train skills such as Crafting and Runecrafting that were not mentioned in the tutorial. Skill help is below. Woodcutting/Firemaking- This is probably the easiest skill at first to perform, all you need to do is get an axe (the one you got from the tutorial is good for starters.) Cut trees in Lumbridge for now, in back of the Lumbridge Castle or right by the General store is a good place. You won't be able to sell the logs for much in the shop, so lighting them on fire for some firemaking experience is good. There is no reason to bank them since most likely no one would buy them. When your Wcing (Woodcutting) level reaches 15, you can cut Oak Logs. Again, the best place to cut is by the general store in Lumbridge, since no one would buy them if you bank them. Sell them to the general store or burn them for firemaking XP. This time around, you may be able to make a profit from selling them to the store. When your wcing gets to 30, you can cut willows, and yews at 60. Each type of log will sell for different amounts depending on what level you need to be to cut them. Fishing/Cooking- Start your fishing by grabbing the Fishing Net you have and going to Draynor Village to fish. There are fishing spots by the lot of willows next to the bank. You can fish shrimp there. As your fishing skill increases, you will be able to use different fishing tools, each tool able to catch different and rare fish. Either bank the fish you catch or cook them(recommended) or bank them. Try to keep your fishing and cooking level near each other, because you can't integrate them like this if you can't cook the fish you catch. Mining/Smithing- Recommendations: 25 combat (for the area used in this guide) hammer – 1 gp (able to use at any level) bronze pickaxe – 1gp (able to use at level 1 mining) iron pickaxe – 140 gp (able to use at level 4 mining) steel pickaxe – 500 gp (able to use at level 6 mining) mithril pickaxe – 1,300 gp (able to use at level 21 mining) adamant pickaxe – 5,000 gp (able to use at level 31 mining) rune pickaxe – 25,000-30,000 gp (able to use at level 41 mining) Posted Image Posted Image Leveling Up: When u first start mining and smithing the best thing to do is mine at dwarfen mines. (look at the map for best route to mine fastest) In the dwarfen mines mine 318 copper ore and 318 tin ore to get to level 21 mining. With that ore go to the furnace circled in green and smelt it all into bronze bars. Then bring 27 bars with u and a hammer to the anvils in the dwarfen mines (circled in red). Make them into bronze daggers and sell at the general store circled in blue. Repeat until you’re out of bars. You will then have 19 smithing and have earned 954 gp. With that buy yourself a steel pickaxe if you don’t already have one. Now that you have fairly decent levels u now will mine iron. Mine the ore then smelt it til you have 380 iron bars in your bank. You will now have level 33 mining. Go to the anvil and smith your bars into iron swords. Once they have all been smithed and sold to the general store you will have 33 smithing and have earned about 10,500 gp. Now you can buy yourself an adamant pickaxe. Also you can mine and smith full iron. Now mine 649 iron ores and smelt them. I am not sure what ur smithing lvl will be because iron doesn’t always turn into bars. You now have 41 mining though and can use a rune pickaxe. To further increase your levels, just mine and smith more iron. Money Making: To make money in runescape it is best to start selling only when you can mine and smith mithril (need 55 mining and 50 smithing). You need 4 coal and one mithril ore to make a mithril bar. When you can make full mithril (mithril platebody, mithril platelegs, mithril full helmet, and mithril kiteshield) at level 55 mining and 68 smithing. At level 70 mining and smithing you can now start making adamant armor and weapons. Once you get to level 70 mining and 88 smithing you can now make full adamant. This will be a good way to make money. Then lastly at level 85 mining and 85 smithing you can start making rune items. Mining a rune ore can sell for 13,000 gp! When you get to level 85 mining and 99 smithing you can now make full rune. This runs for about 190,000 gp in Varrock in world 1 (at time of post). Crafting- If your just starting out, making leather is the way to go. Go to the Dairy Farm near Lumbridge. There should be some Cowhides laying around, pick them up until you have a full invetory. If there is no more you can switch worlds or just kill cows yourself to get them. Once that is done, go to Al Kharid and go to the Tannery, near the bank. Make them into soft leather (costs a few GP) and pick your self up a needle and several rolls of thread. You can make gloves at first, but as your level increases you will be able to make much more things. Magic- This can be a costly skill as your level increases. First of all, buy yourself an elemental staff in the Varrock Staff shop. I recommend an Air Staff. It will help quite a bit. Then either buy or Runecraft some mind runes. Now you can use Wind Strike, the first offensive spell. Go to the Wizard's Tower south of Draynor Village, and up to the top floor. There is a level 82 Lesser Demon there, but don't be intimidated. It is behind a fence and can't get to you. You can still shoot spells at it, though. As you level up you will be able to use new spells. Each spell takes a certain number of magical rune stones, which you either buy or craft. Once you make it bolt spells and higher, free players will have to buy their runes as crafting them (Chaos, Death runes, etc.) is a members only feature. Make sure to not wear melee armor when practicing this skill. Runecrafting- To use this skill you must first complete the Rune Mysteries Quest. To craft magical rune stones, you must first get Rune Essense. Go to the Rune Shop in Varrock and ask Aubury to teleport you to the Essense Mines. Mine a full inventory of Rune Essense and bank it. You can keep mining more to save time. Then go to Falador, take the Air Talismen that you recieved from the Rune Mysteries Quest and fill the rest of your invetory with Rune Essense. Go south of Falador to the Mysterious Ruins and use the talismen on it. Use the ess(Rune Essense) on the altar in the ruins to make air runes. As your level increases you can make different types of rune stones, and either sell them or use them for yourself. Each type of rune has a different temple, located all across Runescape. To find a temple, use the correct talismen, or just look on a help site. Combat Training The unanamous most important skills on Runescape are combat skills. We've covered basic combat training earlier in the guide, but what enemies should you fight as you level up? What should you bring, wear? Levels 3-15: Training on men, women, goblins(level 2-5), rats, and spiders(level 3) is good at this level. You can find most of these around Lumbridge. Training in Lumbridge also enables you to get a chance at retrieving what you lose if you die. Bring some cheap food, shrimp, sardins, herrings, and trout work. Levels 16-30 Your too skilled to just slaughter goblins all day, right? Well don't get too confident. Even though Wizards may look weak at their level, they pack spells that can do a huge amount of damage, stay away from these. Good enemies would probably be Minotaurs (found in level 1 of the stronghold of security), Barbarians, Muggers, and cows. Bring any food from Sardines and herrings to pike, trout, and salmon. Levels 30-40 Good enemies at this level and above consist of Guards(level 19-22), Jail guards(level 26), Skeletons(level 25), Ghosts (level 19), and bears(level 19). Bring a good amount of food, such as Trout, Pike, Salmon, or Tuna. Levels 40-55 You can fight some tough enemies by now. Jail Guards, Guards, and Skeletons are still good, though. There is Deadly Red Spiders(level 34), Moss and Hill Giants(28-42), White and Black Knights (level 33-41). At this point the best food to bring would be lobsters, tuna or swordfish. Levels 56-up You can fight some really big guys now. If you want Jail Guards, Deadly Reds, Knights, and Giants are still good. Lesser and Greater Demons (level 82-92) now come into play, as well as some enemies in the Stronghold of Security such as Catalbapons(sp?)(level 64-68), Ankous, and ghosts (level 86). Of course this only goes for F2P, in P2P lots of new enemies come in such as Dragons, dinosaurs, and other of the sort. You should bring a nice amount of food, either lobsters, tuna, or swordfish. Money Making Newbies/Very Low Levels: I'd say your best bet is killing cows for cow hides. Quick and easy, and sell for 100 gp each. It's somewhat of a competitive business, so try to find a less popular world to kill the cows, or if your just taking leftover drops. Al Kharid is the perfect place to sell them. Low Levels: Mining iron is a good way to go. Takes 15 mining, and by 40 you can mine it in one hit. Don't go to the Dwarven mines, but to a less-popular mining spot, (I recommend East Varrock mine, near a bank, and not many high level miners). The price of Iron ore jumps around a lot, but if I recall you can sell them for around 100 gp each. (date of post) Air Running is also good. Quick, easy, and can make money very quickly. Go to World 16, and mine a bunch of Rune essence, as much as you feel you need. Go to Falador. Take 25 un-noted Rune essence and take it to the Air Temple, trade someone who is air running, they'll give you 25 noted Rune essence, and about 2000 gp, just for running to the bank back and forth. Good business, huh? Middle Levels: Mining iron is still a good option, so if that's working for you then stick to that. I wouldn't neccesarily move onto Coal just yet, though. Air Running is also still good. If you have a moderatly high skill in crafting, making jewelry is good. Even better if you can enchant them. Magic, Defense, Strength, and Power amulets sell good with pkers. You need a mid 20's level of crafting to make sapphire jewelry, and 40 mining and smithing to make gold bars, that's the only hard part. Unless you want to buy them. If you have a good amount of GP on you, you can go down to the Port Sarim magic shop, and buy a lot of chaos or death runes. Then go to the Varrock magic shop and sell them for more. Depending on the inflation, you can make a lot or a little. You probably won't lose any GP in the deal, just keep switching worlds until you get a higher price. I wouldn't recommend smithing, since the only notable profit you could make would require a VERY high smithing level. Higher Middle Levels: As stated above, mining Iron and Air Running still works, if you want. You could mine coal, but it takes a lot of patience to mine it, unless you have a very high mining level. Most of the Coal mines are very popular, you shouldn't even try the Dwarven mines, the F2P Desert mining spot can be good if you find the right world. Otherwise, there is the Wildy mines, which I wouldn't recommend on any conditions. You can make and sell steel bars, either mine the coal and iron ore, or buy it. You can still make a profit off buying your ore for the steel bars, but not nearly as much as you could for making your own. Fishing takes a lot of patience, unless you have a fishing level of over 60 or so. The only sanitary place to fish Lobsters and above is Karamja (the other place being lvl 35 wildy). The closest bank to Karamja is Draynor, which is a trip on the boat and a short walk from Port Sarim. If you want to cook the lobs you fish, there is one tree on the island that you can cut near the boat. While we're on the subject of cooking, you can buy raw fish from the Port Sarim fishing shop and just cook them there. You won't make as much of a profit, but it's much quicker and still something. If you can raise your woodcutting level up to 60, there is the option of cutting yews, but with all the macroers around the price has gone down signifigantly. I'd say it's not worth the effort to raise the skill all the way to 60, when you can make near as much in double the time with Coal or Iron ore. If you want to cut yews and are raising the skill up, you can sell willows you cut in Draynor for 30ish gp each. Of course, there is merchanting, but it's a risky business, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what your doing. It can also be very tedious and long. High Levels: All of the above are still good options. Things like fishing lobs, mining coal, or cutting yews will go much faster as your skill level increases. You could PK for items, but the loot is never very good until your a higher level, when you can start finding full rune and green d'hide. You can mine and smith the higher ores such as Mithril, Adamatite, and even Runite, but in most cases the profit isn't worth the time. Telegrabbing Wine of Zamorak is another option, head over to the Chaos Temple, north of Falador, and use the Telegrab spell on the wine of Zamorak and sell them for 1k each. Laws (which are needed to use the spell) are 300-500 each, so you can make a 500-700 profit with each wine. Like I said, mining Coal, fishing and cooking lobs, and cutting yews will be a lot more quick and successful. Getting a high skill in one of the these is probably the best way to go. Towns Here is a list of all the major towns in the F2P area. Lumbridge- This is the unofficial Newbie town. You start out here as a new player. There is a few novice quests around to start, and goblins and other easy to kill NPCs are abundant. There is also an axe shop, a furnace, and a general store. Varrock- The biggest F2P town, this is a huge merchanting area, especially the two banks on the east and west. Varrock has West, North, East, and South entrances, all connecting to a center area with a big fountain. There is also a path to the Varrock Wilderness, a popular Multi-combat zone where Pking(player killing) teams are just waiting to backstab you. I wouldn't recommend new players visiting this area. There is many shops, including an Archery Shop, Platebody shop, Staff Shop, Clothes Shop, Sword Shop, Rune Stones Shop, Apothecary and more. There is also a bar, some altars, and a few quests to start. Draynor Village- A small town north-east of Lumbridge. This town is the ultimate place for cutting Willow trees, and a good fishing spot for new players. STAY AWAY from the Jail near it, as stated before. There is a few quests to start, and some minor shops such as Wine and Toys shops. There is also a witch that will make dyes for you. The bank in Draynor is a good place to sell Willow logs. The Wizard's Tower is south of here. Draynor Manor is northern, which is a haunted mansion where you can start a few quests. Port Sarim- A seaside town. There is a Rune Stones Shop, Battle Axe Shop, Jewelry Shop, Fishing shop, food shop, and a bar. You can't fish here, but you can take a ship to Karamja, an island for a fee of 30 coins on the docks. Not much else to see here. Falador- The second biggest F2P town, this is the best place to mine in the free world. There is a short cut to the Dwarven Mines in the North-East part of the town, and a furnace. There is 2 banks, a Chainmail shop, a Gem shop, Shield shop, crafting shop, and a hairdressing place where you can change your hair style. The White Knights Castle is a big attraction here. The White Knights of Falador live across the bridge in the North part of town. They come level 36, 38, 39, and 41. They are not aggresive, thankfully. You can start 2 quests in the fortress as a free player. The Mining guild is also located in Falador. Al Kharid- The only desert town accessable to F2P players. You can either pay a toll of 10 GP and get to it from Lumbridge, or walk around. It's a great crafting place, since the dairy farm is near. There is a Gem Trader, Silk Trader, Tannery, Scimitar shop, Platelegs shop, furnace, and a bank which is mainly used to buy and sell crafting supplies. There is also a few fishing spots, and a few quests to start. Barbarian Village- This small town north of Draynor is home to many barbarians. Just talking to them will make them attack you. There is a helmt shop here, and a spinning wheel for making pottery. The entrance to the Stronghold of Security is located here, which new members should stay away from. Goblin Village- There is nothing much to do here, just a lot of angry goblins fighting. You can start the Goblin Diplomacy quest here. Edgeville- This small town is located right on the edge of the wilderness, hence the name Edgeville. There is no shops here, except Oziach who is located on the outskirts, he will sell you Rune Platebodies and Green D'hide Bodies if you've completed the Dragon Slayer quest. Other than that there is just a bank, and a few yew trees, making it a good place to cut. It is a good resource to Pkers(player killers) because of the bank. Rimmington- A small town west of Port Sarim. It's the first general store in a long time. There is a quest to start, and willows south of the town that are good for power woodcutting because of the general store. Besides that there is nothing really to do. Other Areas and Attractions Wizard's Tower- This tower south of Draynor is home to lots of wizards. They are only level 9, but do not be fooled, they use the Fire Strike spell which can hit up to 6 damage. This place is involved in more than a few quests, and has a caged lesser demon on the top floor which is ideal for training magic. Stronghold of Security- This is a dungeon located in a hole in Barbarian Village. There is 4 levels, and you must answer questions about security on Runescape to progress through each level. There is also monsters in the dungeon, the first level only has goblins and other weak foes, but as you get to the higher levels, there can be some very deadly beasts. At the end of the dungeon, you recieve 4 new emoticons, 10000 gp, and new boots. I wouldn't recommend coming here until your at least level 25, and be prepared to run. You can also make a Skull Sceptre staff, which allows you to teleport to Barbarian Village, by killing certain monsters in each level. In the first level, you need to kill Minotaurs until they drop a half of a skull. In the second level, do the same with Flesh Crawlers, the third level Catalpobons, and the fourth level Ankous. It is somewhat useful and is overall a cool staff. Black Knight's Fortress- NEW PLAYERS STAY AWAY! These are the arch enemies of the White Knights. This is the location of the Black Knight's Fortress quest. You can only get in by wearing a Bronze Med Helm, and an Iron Chainbody, so you can fool the guards into thinking you're a guard too. The Black Knights are level 33 and aggressive. Karamja- This tropical island is only accessable through Port Sarim. There is a general store, sometimes used for power fishing. There is also a banana tree forest. This is the one and only place to Cage and Harpoon fish in the F2P world (besides out in level 40 Wilderness, which is insane.) There is also a net and bait fishing spot. Farther up the island is the Karamja Volcano. Inside lurks level 21 Skeletons, level 34 Deadly Red Spiders, and level 82 Lesser Demons. NEW PLAYERS, STAY AWAY! Varrock SewersA prime training spot for various levels. At the start, you can find low level rats, zombies and skeletons. As you go farther in, there is Zombies and Skeletons in the mid 20's and at the far end you can find level 34 Red Spiders, and level 42 Moss giants. Quest Questions Quests are a very important element in Runescape. You can access new areas, and gain free exp. Plus, they're just plain fun. Here are some quest suggestions. Quests you should do as soon as you join: Rune Mysteries Cook's Assistant Sheep Shearer Quests Recommended for levels 5-10: Imp Catcher Witch's Potion Romeo and Juliet Levels 11-20: Pirate's Treasure Goblin Diplomacy Doric's Quest Levels 20-30: Demon Slayer The Restless Ghost Shield of Arrav Prince Ali Rescue Levels 30-40: Vampire Slayer Black Knight's Fortress Ernest The Chicken Levels 50+ Dragon Slayer Quest Tips: Delrith the demon in Demon Slayer has only 7 hp. The Dark wizards surrounding him are more of a threat. Try not to use a resource site, unless your REALLY stuck or in a death-defying situation. It somewhat ruins the fun. You need a second party to finish the Shield of Arrav quest. If you don't know anyone that would help you, post a notice on a forum or even yell it out in a bank. You need 32 Quest Points to get into the champions guild(where Dragon Slayer is started) therefore you can't do Dragon Slayer until you have 32 quest points. You can't wear the Rune Platebody or Green D'hide body until you complete Dragon Slayer. Keep it in mind before you buy one. The Black Knight's Fortress, the scene of the Black Knight's Fort quest, is a multi combat zone. Don't attempt it unless you are prepared to fight more than one Black Knight at a time. Sheep Shearer goes a lot quicker if you have someone helping you. The Wilderness So, what is this wilderness that you've heard so much about? Well, it's an isolated area above civilization, where players can attack each other. The art is known as Player Killing, or Pking. There is much to explore in this vast, desolate land, and I'm here to help you around. Wilderness Levels There are 'levels' of danger in the Wilderness. This determines what level of player can attack you. Right when you enter the Wilderness, you are in Level 1. At this point, only a person your level, one level lower, or one level higher could attack you. As you go farther in, the level of danger increases. For example, in level 20 Wilderness, someone 20 levels higher than you could attack you. The Wilderness goes up to level 48 for free players, and about 57 for members. Multi and Non-multi Combat Areas As well as in the civilized world, the Wilderness as multi and nonmulti areas. In multi areas, Pking teams lurk, just waiting to ambush the unsuspecting player. Unless you have a team of your own, Multi combat areas can be quite dangerous. Non-multi areas are less dangerous, as you could expect. Teleporting in the Wilderness As a free player, you can only teleport in the Wilderness up to level 20. If you go past there, you will be unable to teleport away for any reason. Be aware! What to Wear Never where anything you value, or would not be prepared to lose into the Wilderness. You never know what could happen. Unless you are a pker, medium rare melee armor will be good. Carry a powerful weapon, such as a Rune scimitar or whatever else you can muster. Other Equipment and Precautions Unless you plan on going past level 20, or have a magic level lower than 25, runes needed for teleporting is a must. You should always bring some food, and have the World Map up if you need it. Wilderness Hotspots Chaos Temple and Surronding Area- The chaos temple is north of Varrock and lies around level 10-20 Wilderness. It is a multi combat zone, and a big place for Pking teams. Especially a small area a bit west of a non-multi zone, by a Hill Giant respawn, refered to as 'hills'. Bandit Camp- Just around level 25 Wilderness, it is home to aggressive, level 25-35 bandits. There is some ingredient respawns, ideal for making pizzas. Dark Knight's Castle- Around level 13-18 Wilderness, above Edgeville, this is a prime spot for practing the magic skill. There is many Dark Warrior(level 8) respawns, as well as many rune spawns. You can also find some looters taking rune respawns. Because of all the activity, it is a good spot to find Pking teams. Demonic Ruins- A small ruin, very deep into the Wilderness. It is around level 45 to 48 danger. It is a good spot to train for all skills, Rangers and Magers can shoot from inside the ruin at the Greater Demons(level 92) which cannot touch them in the ruins. Warriors have a good food source, since if they run out, there is a Harpoon and Cage fishing spot a bit south. It is multi combat, and a prime spot for Pking Clan wars, and teams. Looters may also hide out here, waiting for a good clan battle. Lava Maze- A maze surronded by Lava(never would have guessed that) deep in the Wilderness. It is around level 35-45 danger, and pkers circle it. It is home to the infamous King Black Dragon for paying members. If you have a Muddy Key, you can use it on the chest in the maze for a nice reward. Red Dragon Isle- An island surronded by Lava south of the Demon ruins, it has a few lesser demon respawns, and is sometimes used as a meeting place for pking teams. Otherwise, this place is pretty quiet in the F2P world. Wilderness Mines Skeleton Mine- This mine is in a low level wilderness, and contains a lot of coal rocks. Good if your willing to take that extra mile for some coal. Hobgoblin Mine- Way out in deep wilderness, it has some high level rocks and surronded by level 28-42 hobgoblins. Spider Mine- Again, deep into the wilderness, high level rocks, and (you never would have guessed) surronded by spiders. Rune Rocks Mine- The only place in F2P to mine runite, it is on the North side of Lava Maze. The only question is: What's better than pking someone with a full inventory of Rune ore? Not much. This place is patrolled by pkers, making it even more dangerous for the average hardcore miner. Wilderness Fishing Spot- Located in a safe, non-multi combat area, you can find food-less pkers restocking on Lobster and tuna here. Ruins, Graveyard of Shadows, Bone Yard, and the Forgotten Cemetary These are miscellaneous places in the Wilderness, there is usually not many people around here, but they can be used for meeting spots, etc. There are some mid level enemies to watch out for, usually around level 20-40. Pking (Player Killing) What is player killing? Player Killing is the art of attacking and killing other players in the Wilderness. It can be done for money, or for entertainment. What is a pker? A pker is a person who kills other people in the Wilderness. There are 5 main types of pkers. There are the pures: Warrior- A warrior is a pker who has a very high attack and strength skill. They usually have a low defense, ranging, and magic level. Mage- A mage is a pker who has a very high skill in Magic. There are very dangerous to low level pkers, but when they get to the higher levels magic is very weak. They can also teleport and bind. They have a very low level in attack, strength, defense, and ranging. RangerA ranger is a pker with a very high skill in Ranging (never would have guessed.) Their magic, and melee skills are low. They have a slight advantage against mages, since their armor is resistant to magic, and they can attack faster. There is also these other types of pkers: Hybrid: A hybrid is a pker who has a skill in 2 or 3 of the combat elemtents. They are deadly. For example, if a hybrid with a skill of magic and ranging is attacked with a pure Ranger, they would be able to switch to Ranging for a fair battle, and still be able to teleport and bind the opponent. However, the 2 skills may not be as high as a pure's main skill, since as you train 2 skills, you will also gain HP levels. Impure: An impure is a pker who has a skill in all combat elements. It is almost impossible to get an unfair fight against them, but their skills are lower than a Mage and a hybrid, but their HP is considerably higher. Tank Ranger: A deadly branch of ranger that has a high skill in range and defense. They usually wear full dragon hide or leather, and an appropriate metal helmet. They have the defense of an impure, but since they have the bonuses of the dragonhide/leather body, they are almost as powerful as a pure ranger. Watch out for these ones. 1-Itemer: This wimpy guy is afraid to risk anything in the wild so all he brings is a weapon, and sometimes an amulet and monk robes. They are usually more annoying than a threat, and if you are a range or mage you shouldn't even waste your shots on them. 99.8% of the time they will protect item their weapon. Which one should I be? All types of Pkers have an advantage at some point. Here is when you should be what. Low Level Pking: The best thing to be here would be a mage. You can hit very high at very low levels, and a ranger or warrior couldn't even compare. Mid Level Pking: The best thing at this level would be a hybrid, preferably in Ranging and Magic. High Level Pking: The best thing to be here is an impure. Although a hybrid would work, too. What to wear? Warriors: Wear the best armor you can wear, and the best weapon you can wield. Scimitars or Battleaxes are the best. Also, use an amulet of strength or accuracy. Mages: Wear a Wizard robe, a wizard hat, and either a monk's robe or a blue skirt if you want. Use a staff for rune that takes the most in the spell your using. Also take an amulet of Magic and Anti-Dragon shield. Rangers: Use the best vambraces, body, and chaps you can wear. Use the most powerful bow you can wield, and the best or next-to-best arrows you can fire. If your ranging is above 20, wear a coif. Also an Amulet of Accuracy. Hybrids: Wear a combination of your skills attire. Also bring weapons for each of your skills. You can wear an amulet dealing with one of your skills, or a amulet of Power. Impures: Depending on your level, you wear lots of things. Bring weapons for all your skills, and wear an Amulet of Power. Chose smartly, because you can wear anything. D-hide chaps are resistant to magic. Melee helmets are bad for ranging and magic. Other Equipment Essential for all Pkers: You should always bring a big amount of food into the wild. I prefer 16, which is a little more than half of the inventory. Low Levels should bring anything from Sardine to Salmon, Mid levels should use Trout to lobster, and high levels should use Lobster to Swordfish. Other good food are cakes, pies, and other things like that. You should also bring teleporting runes if your Magic level is at least 25, unless you plan on going far past level 20 wilderness. Mages: Mages should bring lots of runes per trip, I prefer about 100 shots worth of runes, depending on how long the trip is. Rangers: Of course, a good amount of arrows. Warriors: You will need a strength potion or two. The Skull What is that skull that appears over your head when you attack someone? As long as you have a skull over your head(for about twenty minutes), quite simply, you will not keep any items when you die. Prayer and Pking Prayer can be a vital element in Pking. For example, if you have a high level in prayer, you can use prayers such as Protect Item, allowing you to keep an extra item when you die, the Protection spells, which allow you to be protected from a certain type of attacks. There are also spells that increase the power of a certain skill. With a strength potion combined with the ultimate Strength prayer, a warrior could give an opponent quite a surprise. Pking Teams, Clans, and Backstabbers A pking team is two or more pkers that have formed an alliance in the Wilderness, to not attack you or other teammates. These are only effective in Multi-combat areas. So if you are being teamed up on by a Pking team, you'll be more safe by running into a non-multi zone. A Pking Clan is a gathering of very large amounts of players, usually recruited by advertising at Runescape fansites. If you run into a Pking clan your best bet is to teleport right away, since no matter what, you don't stand a chance against 50 to 300 players. Clans often have wars and alliances with other clans. You can think of them as colonies. A backstabber is one or more person who claims to have an alliance with you, but attacks you later on, breaking his/her word. Players can be lured into a false sense of security. Never team with someone you've just met; they could be a backstabber. Scams and Cheating Just like Orbit and Neopets, there are always a cheater or two on Runescape. Here are some common scams. "Runescape blocks your password look ******" Runescape DOES NOT and WILL NOT block your password ever. The person is simply trying to get you to say your password in game. "Selling Account" If you see someone selling an account in game, it is most likely a scam. First of all, selling accounts is against Runescape rules, and second, it involves lots of trust, since one person needs to complete their part before another. "Follow me I'll make you rich" "Follow me for (amount of points or item)" etc, etc, etc. If someone is trying to get you to follow them, it most likely to lure you somewhere. This place could be an area of aggressive monsters, the wilderness, or somewhere else that they could end up getting something you have. Never do this. "Prove your trust/loyalty to the clan by giving me your rarest item" This is most likely the scam, no honest clan would ask for this. "Want to duplicate your items?" The player saying this will usually take the victim to a secluded area, ask them to drop the items they want to duplicate, and press ALT+F4. This will not duplicate items, but instead close your browser, logging you off, leaving your stuff with the scammer. "Want me to trim your armor?" You may have seen people wearing armor with gold or another color outlines on it. Scammers claim they can take normal armor and trim(make it have outlines) it. This is impossible. Trimmed Armor is gained through Treasure Trails, and is found as it is. There is no way to trim it. Trade Scamming There are many ways of scamming in Runescape trades, just like Orbit. One way is to use Bank notes. For example, you want to buy a Rune 2-handed sword. Someone puts up a noted 2h sword. It may look like Rune, but right-click it to make sure. They may try to fake it with an Iron, Mithril, or Adamant sword instead. They can also switch at the last second, so make sure to always study the second trade window. Other examples are switching big bones for bones, Pure Essense for Rune Essense, Magic Logs for Willow Logs, and so on. Another way to scam during a trade is to swap money. Say your selling full Zamorak armor. You get a trade, and the person offers up 3.5 million. Now, why in the world would someone offer that much when Zamorak armor is worth just over 2 million? Probably a scam. They may add other cheap items on in attempt to direct your attention away from the money, so they can swap it with a different amount, usually the 3500k would be replaced with 3500 or 35004. Beware! The level of players also comes into play when detecting a scam. Say your selling full Rune armor, and a level 3 wants to buy it. Why would a level 3 need it, if he can't even wear it yet. Most likely a scam. Some scammers make new accounts to avoid losing their main. If you are dealing with a very high level player, it is less likely to be a scam, since a high level player would lose lots of time training stats if he was banned. If you have the slightest doubt, don't go through with the deal. Always report scammers. I'll be adding more, there is still some things left to cover. |
