Autism comes under the umbrella of PDD (Pervasive Development Disorder), within that there are 5 subtypes: 1. Autism 2. Rhett's Syndrome 3. Childhood Disintegrative Disorder 4. Aspergers 5. PDD-NOS (NOS - Not Otherwise Specified) PDD-NOS is what persons who have a PDD, but does not fit the other 4 disabilities. For example they might have only 4 of the 6 indicators of Autism and don't fit any of the other diagnosis. So it not actually forms of Autism, but forms of PDD, which is a common mistake. They are finding similar brain chemical issues with PDD, Schizophrenia, and Tourette's Syndrome. |
