Cartoon Network conducted a panel Thursday at San Diego Comic-Con and announced the creation of a brand new massively multiplayer online PC game titled FusionFall. Many of the game's elements will be familiar to those who have previously played massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs), such as World of Warcraft.
There will be clan/guild play in the game. These groupings of players will be called "clubs" and their functionality is not yet known. The game is played in a large area, but due to being aimed at a younger crowd, large distances will not have to be travelled to get to the action. Instead, adventures will be available almost anywhere in-game. Elements of class play will be included and player versus player action is being considered. However, while this is a PC game, play will function more like a console game.
In regards to creative aspects, Mario F. Piedra is making the designs for the game and Matthew Schwartz co-wrote the manga tie-in. Characters featured in the game will not only be from current Cartoon Network series, but will also include those from older shows. Furthermore, you will be able to collect super deformed (SD) versions of Cartoon Network characters called "nanos" to aid you in battle. Those conducting the panel also hinted that if the game is successful, a television series based on FusionFall is possible.
FusionFall is tentatively set to launch Summer 2008 and there are no details available on pricing at this time. The game should be playable on PCs that are two to three years old and the game will be installed on the computer as opposed to being playable inside a web browser.
