So lately I have been disenchanted with collecting joes and I think I found out why. I just got a complete Battle Wagon in the mail today and I went looking for more pictures of it on Yojoe Well while in the archive I looked at the year it came out and realized I was only missing 3 of the gliders for that year. So I was curious so I looked at the other years from 82-2002 and realized I am missing maybe a total of less than 30 vehicles minus the early exclusives and night force obviously as these are well out of my price range ATM. And I realized that I am nearing completion and that may very well suck. So I guess my question is what would you guys if you were to reach everything that you wanted (some in multiples) and a good chunk that you didn't in a collection and there was no more to collect? |

I just figure that one of these days I'm going to age out of collecting toys (again). But I get what you're saying. When I started collecting as an adult, I was after childhood Transformers that I wanted but never got. I discovered Ebay and was able to get most of them, with one or two more still on the want list. But checking off the majority of wanted collectibles does kill the drive to collect, certainly. It's a bit different with Transformers, since there's constantly new figures and remakes of old ones and reissues coming out every year. I'm enjoying the G1 remakes in the Classics/Universe/Generations line quite a bit. But they're a minority of Transformers output. So yeah, the desire to keep collecting has diminished quite a bit in the last year or two. That's fine with me, really. It's not like I don't have a ton of Transformers anyway that I have to find storage space for! |

And this is exactly what i mean. I have reached the point that most of my holy grails are assimilated into my collection. I have 3 mcc's 2 terrordromes, 2 generals, a defiant, and 99% of the sub teams minus nf that is. I'm just thinking that the thrill is gone as what i am after now isn't cuz its cool or i wanted it as a kid its just cuz i don't have it. |

Well, you could sit back and enjoy your collection. I have always considered the true zen of collecting anything to be a collection that one adds to, but does not fill in. In other words, you watch for new items, but do not worry about older items. This can either be due to the fact you have a comprehensive collection, (as sounds to be the case here), or the collection covers the important bases. (For example, in TF, I am quite happy with my "Cybertron" collection, despite it having many gaps.) With "GI Joe", this present a problem as there are so few new figures in the works. It is possible to go back and expand the base, maybe while getting rid of items that you do not want? I find that buying/keeping something just to have it on the shelf is a bad model. Customizing is also an option. If one is not hunting for new official items, they can hunt for parts for custom figures. Dom -has more gaps in his collection that he cares to think about..... |
