Actually, it's sort of funny that you mention that Dom because about 30 mins ago or so, I had to go and replace my missing driver's license! And I opted to do the voter's registeration thing...

With that being said, I definitely think it's time for me to be more active as a U.S. citizen and more-than-likely, I WILL BE vote this up and coming election! I haven't voted since I was in the 4th grade but I don't think my vote even counted back then when George Bush Sr. was running for president against I forgot who it was...

And I am by no means bashing on George W. Bush but what he's done thus far, has certainly made me question his motives and even his leadership. I've always sort of turned my cheek the other way, but I've recently realized that that's only being selfish and is very very foolish of me. I've never been into politics nor did I care to, but I really think that it's time to turn around and face what's really going on! I really wanna make a difference and I think my votiing will contribute to the better of our american country and country men...

I have learned (more than once, so "re-learned" is probably the better term), not to declare an intent to vote one way or the other before I actually vote.

I will admit to pretty much any vote I have cast.

('96: Dole. The '00 and '04 presidential races since then have gotten a blank ballot, or a snitty write-in from me.)

The simple fact is that up until election day, things can change. In the recent MA governor's race, I was all set to vote for a guy named Mihos. But, a few days before election day, I read an article in the local press quoting him as saying one of the most assinine things I have ever read.

Long and short, Mihos made a shallow play for the Roman Catholic vote (a group that is far too powerful in MA), and lost my vote. Anyone who plays for votes by whining about "The DaVinci Code" will not get my support on any subject, ever. (If Mihos keeled over in front of me, I would not so much as ask if he were okay.)

Of course, the most important thing to remember when voting in *any* race is that the blank ballot option exists. Casting a vote for one candidate to register distaste for the other only validates the the first candidate by virtue of what they are *not,* rather than what they in fact are.

I am not saying everybody should get out and vote. (If nothing else, it is better to keep less informed and interested people away from the polls.) But, my dream is for active voters to register their distaste with current trends (said distaste shows up in any number of polls) by casting ballots, but not actually voting for, (and thus endorsing), the lesser of the offered evils.

In case anyone is wondering, right now I am tilting towards Obama. But, the primary, never mind the elections, are a ways off. So, no promises.

And finally, as point of information: Bush Senior ran for President twice, succeeding once. In '88, he defeated Dukakis (a former governor of MA), and in 2000 he lost to an obscure bumkin of a governor, from a backwater state, Bill Clinton.

Christopher Walken for president!

What a disappointment. For a brief but inspiring moment, we thought Blogma's favorite actor might really be throwing his hat in the ring, following in the footsteps of so many other Hollywood politicians.
Christopher Walken

Unfortunately, it seems that Christopher Walken's supposedly official campaign site, walken2008.com, is a marketing outgrowth of his role as a senator with presidential ambitions in "Wedding Crashers." "According to one source, the entire campaign, including registration of multiple Web domain names, is an elaborate hoax being perpetrated by members of the General Mayhem forums, one of the largest message boards on the Internet," WorldNetDaily says.

Yet bloggers and others refuse to give up hope. As the brilliant Fark.com astutely observes, "This country needs more cowbell."

I seriously think he should run for President.

As of now, it is not unrealistic. The Republicans do not have an obvious front runner right now. Personally, I am pulling for Romney in the Republican primary, simply so I can see him lose his own state in the big race.

In terms of the Democrats, I would tilt (both in terms of preference, and wagering) towards Obama. But, I would not rule Clinton out.
