http://www.nhl.com/schedules/index.html First thing I noticed about the Canucks schedule is there are back-to-back away games against the same team, I don't think they used to do that. Probably trying to cut down travel costs. Also interesting that they give Bertuzzi a 12 game addition to his suspension and he will miss 3 games vs the Avs.... |

^ that's interesting... probably having to cram in games due to the 2-week Olympic break, they figured it was worth a shot EDIT: I jusy noticed that the Leafs have the same thng, @ the Senators January 21st and 23rd, then @ Montreal on March 23rd and 25th, then @ home to the Sabres on April 1st and 3rd |

that's interesting they are doing that. I notice that they have a day off in between. Probably wanting to save money and still get in some games so they can have the Olympics. |

I hate the new schedule format, where you play teams in your division 8 times and you only get one game against each team from one division in the other conference playing in your home rink during the season. So that means in Vancouver, we'll only get to see teams like the Rangers, Leafs, Canadiens...etc, once every three years. Instead, we get to see Minnesota 4 times this year at home. Another great move by the NHL ;noway; The NHL is drastically trying to improve their image and attract fans. What's one way to do that? Give fans in every city exposure to the top teams and the star players from around the league. In the NBA, each team plays home and away against every team in the league. MLB has had big succuss with interleague play. But for some reason, the NHL is going in the opposite direction. They claim it will "heat up" division rivalries. Well division rivalries were already quite heated with 6 games. And division play isn't really all that important anyways. Aside from 1st place, it doesn't matter what position you come in in your division. As long as you're in the top 8 in the conference, you still make the playoffs. The NFL and Baseball are really the only sports where divisions affect the playoffs. |

Crosby's first NHL game of the season will be against the Devils. Let's hope Crosby keeps his head up especially with Stevens. |

I'm SO stoked about those three in a row against Edmonton... whenever that is. :P The scheduling really bothers me, for all the reasons mentioned above. Play each team in the other conference twice, for 30 games, and have the other 52 consist of 5 in your division (20 games), and the other 32 be made up of the 10 teams in the other two divisions in your conference (3 each with two that would have 4). Or do whatever breakdown you want. Maybe reserve those two extra games for special matchups with the other conference (have one more game against the Leafs and Habs for example :P ). What's too bad about the divisional system is that you'll have teams in weak divisions get way easier schedules than teams in good divisions. Some divisions have the potential of getting 4-5 teams into the playoffs from year to year, and some seem to only have 1-2. Playing a certain weaker team 8 times instead of 4 could have a huuuuge effect on the conference standings come playoff race time. Maybe they should go back to a system where they break down playoff spots by divisions, however that would work with 3 divisions each (I'm guessing top 2 + 2 "wildcards"). That has problems of its own as well though... |

^ I agree. Other than with Colorado, the Canucks' division has typically been a weak one over the last few seasons. |
