http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle....URE-IDOL-DC.XML LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Fox television network to "American Idol" viewers: sorry, wrong number. A flubbed display of phone numbers used by viewers to choose their favorite contestant prompted Fox to throw out the latest voting results and air an extra one-hour episode of the No. 1 show on U.S. television on Wednesday. The recap special of the prime-time talent contest will consist of taped performances from Tuesday's show, along with some live segments to fill in the gaps and a new round of voting. The 11 remaining contestants will not actually perform their songs again. "Audiences will see the exact same performances from the exact same performers," said Fox spokesman Scott Grogin. The show's weekly half-hour "results" segment, in which the outcome of the previous night's vote is revealed and the contestant with the smallest tally gets eliminated, will be bumped to Thursday night. The network displayed incorrect numbers for two call-in lines during Tuesday's broadcast, Grogin said. "It was human error on the production side," he told Reuters. "It had nothing to do with the phone lines." To make room for the extra episode, Fox must juggle its prime-time schedule this week. The debut of its new half-hour sitcom, "Life on a Stick," will be bumped from Wednesday to Thursday, and this week's episode of the youth-oriented drama "Point Pleasant" will be preempted on Thursday. The Tuesday broadcast of "Idol" has averaged 26.4 million viewers this season, according to Nielsen Media Research. lol, I didn't hear about this. Someone must have got fired for that. |
