![]() Name: Leto Antonovitch Novendot Age: 45 Birthday: October Sixteenth, 1714 Race: Jaran (By Birth) Advantages: Earthy, Good Natured Disadvantages: Naive, Trusting Sex: Male Occupation: Rei Henka of Meria, Dyan of the Novendot Tribe, Dyan of the Jaran, Caesar of Eden, Prince of the Lands of Sade Job Class: Dyan Appearance: The Emperor is Jaran, by birth. He bears all the features and looks of a Jaran. Though it’’s true he’s middle aged, the Emperor is well preserved and still considered very handsome in court. Though monogamy isn’t something the Jaran respect, the Emperor has had very few mistresses. The Emperor is tall, with dark hair and coppery skin. The Jaran have two gene groups, one fair, and one dark. The former is usually called Reiran, meaning golden people, while the latter is referred to as Dairan, or dark people. Leto is a Dairan. His eyes are green and his nose is aquiline. His mouth is wide and his chin is square and strong. The emperor is tall and well muscled. Though in special occasions he dons Serdian, Sho and Sudish costumes, he is most often found (and most often comfortable) in Jaran clothes. Weapons: His short sword, Auromec. Accessories: The Imperial Signet ring. Likes: Riding, Camping, Informality Dislikes: Pomp, arrogance, laziness Fears: The Dark Lord Hobbies: Hunting, Language, History Aspirations: Raise his children Personality: Leto was not born to power. The fourth son of the Tobsky tribe’s dyan, his prospects were never very high. He was bound to be the wife of an Estansa, or elder or healer, perhaps, but he was never destined to have any power himself. This contributed greatly to his personality. Being left to himself most of the time (a minor child of fifteen), he quickly learned to entertain himself. This was just the first step in thinking for himself. His independence was established very early on. He was also saved from the corrupting influences of power. He saw his cousin, the future Dyan of the Tobsky tribe. Saw him manipulated and blinded by compliments and false praise. He vowed never to be so gullible. Finding himself one of the most powerful men in the Empire, he has kept this promise. Leto despises sycophants, suck ups and anyone else who lies and debases themselves for power. This has made him a wise and strong leader, a quiet rock upon which Sabriel and Drake can rest. He is studious and undemanding. He dislikes formality, as do most Jaran for, growing up in the harsh land of Mortikan, he thinks customs that separate people are dangerous. History: Leto Antonovitch was the son of his tribe’s Dyan. Though the Tobsky tribe was powerful, wealthy and influential in Jaran life, as a mere son, Leto would not inherit anything. Growing up a minor Prince gave him the complex that many of his powerful peers later in life would have. He was ambitious and creative, selfless and kind. He lacked all the qualities that one born into power must inevitably inherit, and possessed only those that would make him a good leader. His childhood was peaceful. As one of the eldest tribes, the Tobsky’s grazed in the far southern plains of jeds... away from the merciless persecution and hunting that the younger, northern tribes had to face near Estonrell. Despite this, however, when Sabriel raised her standard against her uncle, Leto threw himself into the fray. Becoming one of her top lieutenants, Sabriel put Leto in charge of several pan-jaran Jahars, and sent him to the front time and time again where he proved himself an able warrior. This brought him accolades, and when the war was finally over, he was invited to live in the Imperial Megeron (the Palace in Hayholt that is). Though he had met Sabriel’s sister, the Princess Irulan before, it wasn’t until this moment that he was captivated by her. Though only a princeling, Sabriel was well aware of how powerful his family was, how the elder tribes respected the name Tobsky where Novendot received only scorn (many Jaran felt, and still feel, that the Novendot name died out long ago, and that the current Novendots are nothing but pretenders). Thus, she allowed her sister to marry Leto, bringing a great deal of stability into her family. In addition, to reward him for his valor and to make her tribe seem more Jaran, she convinced those few Novendot elders left, to make him the Dyan of the Novendot tribe. Leto and Irulan lived in bliss for many years. They continually moved between Hayholt Keep and the fertile Tobsky lands in Southeastern Odon and western Jeds. Though they were as shocked by the Serdian revolution and brutal murder of Marie Saqueloin as their sister was, they were in no way as dramatically affected by it. Or so they thought. Nearly seven years after Leto and Irulan married, on a cold winter night, Jaran guards from the Sakhalin tribe burst into Leto and Irulan’s chambers in a townhouse they were staying at in Jeds. They were informed that the Empress (Irulan’s own sister) had been deposed by Jaran command, and that the Sakhalin tribe wished Leto to be it’s Kaja representative. Without much ceremony, the couple was escorted from Jeds, to the capital of Hayholt. Finding the Palace in disarray, partially looted and the city in Martial law, Leto had very little choice other than to accept the crown. Though he immediately established correspondence with his deposed sister (who had fled to Ivendell), it took nearly eight months to convince the Jaran to reaccept Sabriel as the Empress and Estansa. Upon her return, the two began their joint reign together. Sabriel, in order to stabilize her position, married the now exiled King of Serdio, and the couple quickly bore children. Leto and Irulan themselves welcomed two infants into the world, and it seemed again as if peaceful family life would prevail. Unfortunately, the Serdian rebels, not content with unseating one monarch, turned their eyes northward. During the ensuing conflicts, the children were separated. While Frederick, Katerina and Leto were kept in Hayholt to observe and watch their parents in action, Julia, Helen, Brennan as well as a few royal cousins were sent to the Palace at the Downs in Jeds, were they remained for most of their childhoods. Upon the restoration of the King, the family united, the Rlugia-Novendots journeyed south to Esto Gaza, where they have set up court and will, once again, try to find peace with each other. |
