A motorcade rode up to the keep, at it's side being the Serdian insignia. The car stopped infront of the keep, it's driver getting out and walking to the back of the car, opening the door. From out of the car stepped Drake, who thanked the driver and asked him to come back in a few hours, and he'd be ready to go. Drake strode up to the entrance of the keep. "Hail, great protectors of Ivendell keep! Do you know if her majesty Gen is up yet?" |

The Guards on the great porch saluted, but said nothing. The great iron and glass doors were opened to reveal the great hall and lobby. A maid approached the King and curtsied. “Sir?” She asked inquiringly. |

Drake was in awe as the iron and glass doors opened, revealing the great hall. Yes, he had seen it many times before, but it never ceased to amaze him of Ivendell's superority to his own palace back in Serdio. When the maid approched him, Drake nodded to her. "Um yes, I'd like to inquire if Lady Gen is awake yet?" |

The maid said nothing but nodded. She led the king up through the vast hall. The great landings and stair case leading up to the huge marble floor. She led him past the massive throne on its daises, through the golden lattice doors to the right. Through another vast marble hall. To the south, great windows opened out to the wharf district. To the north, huge doors marked the chambers of the ladies in waiting. At the end of this long hall was a large staircase. The maid led the King up this one too. There was a lobby, with three elevators. She led him into one of these. The Elevator operator saluted. “What floor?” He asked. “Seventh please” The maid answered. He pulled the iron grate over the door and pushed the lever. The elevator rose to the seventh floor, and the iron gate was opened. The maid led the King of Serdio into corridor. It had large windows that looked down far below. Courtiers sat and spoke in hushed voices in this hall. The maid ignored them, and accompanied Drake to one final great door, with two guardsmen. She knocked. A very pretty blond woman in a dark green day dress answered. “His Majesty to see the Empress, Ma’m” The maid said. “Thank you.” The maid curtsied. “I’m not sure if you remember me your Grace. I am Song Hue, personal secretary to the Empress ” Song said. Hue led them into a large parlor with windows that looked north, to the part of the city that was inland. “Wait here please” Song left the parlor through a door to the south. Three or four moments later Gen entered. |

Drake said nothing as the maid lead him through the keep. It was large and magnificient, and Mystice seemed like a little toy chest compared to Ivendell. Drake remained silent as they headed up the elevator, simply wondering how much longer until he would see his dear niece again. When Song Hue anwsered the door, Drake smiled, and indication that he remember her and what she had done for Gen through the many years. Drake waited once more, until Gen arrived. She looked the same as she had over a century ago..had it really been that long since they had seen eachother. "Good day, your majesty. You look as beautiful as always." |

"I just wanted to see my lovely darling niece." Drake replied to Gen, flashing a smile. It felt odd being around Gen. No, she hadn't changed, nor was that the reason. It was only because she was his last blood relitive. Indeed, their connection was back, the Mecca and Rlugian families connected by one fated marriage - Helen Cian to Twy Fakar. It was an odd line, but it was still a bond. Drake felt weird, Gen being his last blood relitive. "Did you know that you are my last blood relitive?" |

Gen was in her room alone. Her Uncle had left. Song entered, followed always, by a fleet of servants. "Madame" She said, bowing. "What is on my schedule today?" Gen inquired, pushing herself up from the bed where she lay. "There are a few notables whom you must dine with this evening" song said. "But other than that..." "Who?" Gen asked. "The Prince Medici of Jeds, you know.. the banking one.. the Duchess of Kent and her daughter... some petty provincial squires.. the Hamiliton family.. they've been petitioning to see you for months.. and... that's it I believe" "Well this proves to be very dull" Gen said meekly. Song shrugged. "You could always cancel" "No.. that would offend them.” There was talk, amongst Gen's Minister's of pushing into Vulcan. They had established the Eden protectorate from Mantua, when the Dark lord had taken over the mainland. The tribes and Princes of Vulcan were heavily dependent on Merian banks and troops to keep them from destroying one another. It wouldn't bee hard to completely establish a protectorate... in fact the Idea seemed pleasant to her.. Yet it would meet resistance from her nobles who would be alarmed by her personal increase in power. "It seems I have no choice, doesn't it song?" "If you wish I could invite the Blue Baroness.. that Serdian Princess... and your brother could attend and... the Blue Baron... although he may be at his estates in the north.. " Gen laughed at her funny little secretary. "This is turning out to be quiet the spectacle! You'll come too Song." "Oh... no My Lady.. I couldn't..." "Yes you could" Gen said. "You will. I order it." "I'm flattered your Majesty. And.. I cant refuse can I?" Gen smiled. "Well then your Majesty, I will come. But for the moment I have a great many things to plan" Song curtsied and left. |

Gen and her ladies walked down the wide western corridor of her palace. Things were wrong, very wrong. With the unrest in Serdio and its Viceroy, she worried for her uncle.. and the stability of her own state. “Madame?” One of her cabinet ministers asked. He had just ascended the elevator from the lower corridors of the palace. “I am going to the Ivory city” She responded. The Ivory city was the center of Merian power in Galastar, it was the medium through which she could rule the entire world. “Yes Madame. When shall we expect your return?” “Soon” she responded and with that, swept out of the palace. ((Yes, I am back)) |

In nearly perfect unison the scrubwoman of the Imperial palace soaked their rags in warm water, and getting on hand and foot, ran across the marble floor of the great hall. THey all wore matching pink harem pants and blouses, with blue bandanas covering their hair. raised on a scaffold, other scrubwomen cleaned the huge crystal windows that looked onto the front porch. Still other servants cleaned the windows of the southern hall, and dusted, and washed. One scrubwoman stood out in particular. Her face was soft, her skin pale. She was slender and black hair burst forth from her bantanda. She washed the great entrance windows in methodic fashion. The water felt warm as she plunged her rag into the bucket. Up. Down. Up. Down. Polished heels struck marble. “What on earth are you doing?” Gen turned to see her father, the Rei Henka standing looking up at her incredulously. Not here father She thought, and ignored him, turning back to the window washing. “Gen?” He said. “Come down here” She complied. She threw her rag in the bucket, wiped her soapy hands on her pants and descended the latter to the ground floor. “Milord Henka” She said, drawing back an imaginary skirt. Her father chuckled. “What on earth are you doing?” “I was washing the windows” She said calmly. “I can see that. Why?” “Because they needed washing.” Tigris sighed. He took his daughters arm. “No one blames you for the return of Mortikan. No one thinks you are any less capable at governing.” Gen said nothing. It was true, ever since the recent return of Mortikan she had doubted her ability to be a good leader. It was for this reason that she had begged her father to take over the position of Rei Henka in Eden. It was for this reason that she had refused to see the elfish lords, despite their great power in feudal Eden. It was for this reason that she had dressed like a servant and done hard manual labor for the last few weeks or so. He led her into the grand southern hall. Other scrubwoman looked at them in curiosity, not realizing that the woman the Rei Henka was talking to was his daughter. Gen just shook her head. “The High King Calais is coming. You best meet him or we may have problems later. Also! Serdio has taken Banji. That is troublesome.” “I talked to him about it already..” Gen said. They had reached the end of the hall. The Rei Henka nodded to the lift operator, who stood outside the golden doors of the lift. They turned and walked up the short wide staircase to the Imperial hall, where the royal bed chambers where. Tigris patted his daughters cheek. “Worry not my dear. Everything will turn out” and with that, the Rei Henka left his daughter at the doorway to her apartments. |

Gen stood in the grand southern hall of Ivendell keep. It was raining. It was almost always raining in Ivendell. The Empress looked out the huge cut glass windows onto the immediate city, and onto the extensive lesser city. From her vantage point it looked like a white sea. She wore a dress of typical Ivendell design. The blouse was formless, and sleeveless. It descended to mid thigh, and tapered into a triangle on all sides. The dress had a long V in the back that reveled the arched curve of the Empresses back. Under this was a skirt that went mid calf, and tapered to a narrow hem. The whole thing was purple. Gen’s hair was pinned up and she wore a dainty hat. One gloved hand was limp, while the other traced the lines of the window. The Empress heard a noise and turned, to the large golden lattice gate that stood between the entrance hall and the southern corridor. The Blue Baroness, whose husband was the administrator of the Blue Barony stood. She wore a navy blue skirt, the same length as the Empress. Over this she wore a traveling jacket, underneath she would be wearing a blouse. “Irulan” Gen said and nodded, pleased to see her friend. Irulan was a Velon, an exiled Serdian princess. Now she was a Baroness, and the confidente of the Empress of Ivendell. “How does the weather agree with you Madame?” The Empress shrugged her bare shoulders. “I left my wrap in my chambers. Its cold” “It’s always cold” The Baroness said. “Yes... its Mortikan's curse” Gen said with a smile. Mortikan's dark magic did not reach across the thick wall and even thicker moat that the Clayre set up to guard this last sanctuary. But his control over the weather did. Only when Mortikan was pleased or weak did the sun shine in Ivendell. |

The royal airship of the kings was slowly fluttering down into Ivendell, the harsh rain pouring down. Damn that Mortikan! Yet nothing could be done about it. The airship came to a halt, and Drake exited it. The Summer festival had been cancelled, something about Aramasa acting up again. It didn't really matter at the moment. With Drake was the Caesar of Eden. They were very different: Drake's skin was a light tan, while the Caesars was dark. Drake was clean-shaven with brown hair, while the Caesar had dark hair with a mustache. Drake wore a simple green robe, with some pants and a regular shirt. He had dressed warmly due to Ivendells weather, while the Caesar was freezing. He had a Turkish Headress on, light violet robes with golden slippers and some clothing from the dead Pre-Yura Edeniese era. "Why didn't you tell me it was so cold here?" The Caesar asked. Drake shook his head and took the Caesar's hand, dragging him through the crowded streets. "I didn't think it mattered." |

Irulan examined the city. She said “They say the canals might flood.” “They always say that” The Empress responded. “I don't see why the Clayr cant do something about it. With their biggest cathedral right in the middle of the Blue Barony” Gen shrugged. “You know as well as I do that the powerful ones live up north, in their glacier. Only novices and exiles run the cathedral” “Go and see if you can fetch my wrap will you” The Baroness nodded. “Yes madame” The Hall was not empty. It never was. There were always servants cleaning, dusting, mending. One in particular approached her. “Madame” He said and bowed. “Your uncle is on his way to the palace.” “Ah” Gen said. “Well I shall receive him in the botanical gardens” “Yes Madame” Gen turned and walked down the corridor, until she got to the southern lobby. Irulan had just descended the flight of stairs into the lobby with the Empresses large white fur wrap. Gen took it and hugged it tight to herself. “Drake is coming. We’re going to the botanical gardens” |

Drake continued dragging his cousin in tow through the streets, the rain pouring down. The aristocrat was whining, not liking the weather. Drake tried to tune him out..he cared for his cousin, but now was not the time to be whining. "Can you stop dragging me? I CAN walk you know." The Caesar snapped. Drake shruged, and made his grip tighter. He wasn't losing the Caesar of "Eden" in this maze they called Ivendell. Some guards approched them. "Sir, we've alerted her majesty Gen of your presence. If you will follow us, we will take you to her, in the Botanical gardens." They stated. Drake nodded, and soon began towing the Caesar with him, following the guards. |

The botanical gardens were warm. They were heated. They sat atop the southern lobby, separated from the great green copper dome of the main hall by a long peaked roof. The Gardens sat in a round glass dome, with a diameter of about twenty yards. Dominating the center of this garden was a huge old Silver Wood tree. There were little garden paths and even a lawn. It was raining and the pitta patter on the glass roof was soothing. From up here she could see far over the wall of Ivendell into the dark land of Mortikan. It made her shiver. She pulled up her wrap more tightly around her. She and the Baroness sat at a little table underneath the tree. They had tea. The gold plated doors of the lift, which was built into the northern wall where the glass dome met the roof, opened. The chief herald entered and bowed. “Madame, his Majesty the King of Serdio, Drake Rlugia I and his esteemed cousin, the Caeser of Banji” “Drake do come in. You remember my cousins wife, the Blue Baroness Irulan” “How do you do” Irulan said. Her words rang empty, with no friendliness or politeness in them. |

Drake waltzed in, the Caesar behind him. The Caesar fumed. Caesar of Banji? He was the Caesar of Eden! Meira had stolen it during the barbaric dark ages, and when Mortikan arose left it to die with the elves. The Caesar had no compassion for the woman before him. "Hello." The Caesar mumbled, going silent. Drake nodded to both of the ladies, then shuddered. It was cold, and he didn't like it. "Has Mortikan acted up any lately?" Drake cut to the chase to why he was here. |

“He has not. Not yet anyway. But look” Gen stood. It had begun to get warm inside the gardens. The glass fogged up. She walked across one of the lawns to the large glass expanse and rubbed her white gloved hand across it, reveling the view. It was late afternoon, and Ivendell was gray. But across the wall... it was black. “The Clayr say they can feel something. They say something will happen. I was going to fly up to their glacier tomorrow. You may come if you want.” |
