For any of you new players out there, this thread is going to teach you how to build a deck. Yay! xD First of all, in yugioh, there are 2 different types of formats as most of you already know. Advanced and Traditional. Advanced format has bans on certain cards, while traditional has no bans. Advanced Banned/Restricted list: //As of April 1st, 2005 //Note: This is the official UDE list. //Forbidden Cards - Zero Per Deck Butterfly Dagger - Elma Change of Heart Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End Confiscation Dark Hole Fiber Jar Harpie's Feather Duster Imperial Order Magical Scientist Makyura the Destructor Mirage of Nightmare Monster Reborn Painful Choice Raigeki The Forceful Sentry Witch of the Black Forest Yata-Garasu //Limited Cards - 1 Per deck Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning Breaker the Magical Warrior Call of the Haunted Card Destruction Ceasefire Cyber Jar D.D. Warrior Lady Dark Magician of Chaos Deck Devastation Virus Delinquent Duo Exiled Force Exodia the Forbidden One Graceful Charity Heavy Storm Injection Fairy Lily Jinzo Left Arm of the Forbidden One Left Leg of the Forbidden One Lightning Vortex Mage Power Magic Cylinder Mirror Force Morphing Jar Mystical Space Typhoon Pot of Greed Premature Burial Protector of the Sanctuary Reckless Greed Reflect Bounder Right Arm of the Forbidden One Right Leg of the Forbidden One Ring of Destruction Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys Sangan Sinister Serpent Snatch Steal Swords of Revealing Light Torrential Tribute Tribe-Infecting Virus Twin-Headed Behemoth United We Stand //Semi-Limited Cards - 2 Per Deck Abyss Soldier Creature Swap Dark Scorpion - Chick the Yellow Emergency Provisions Good Goblin Housekeeping Gravity Bind Last Turn Level Limit - Area B Manticore of Darkness Marauding Captain Night Assailant Nobleman of Crossout Reinforcement of the Army Upstart Goblin Vampire Lord Now for the Traditional Banned/Restricted list: //As of Apr 1, 2005 //Note: This is the official UDE list. //Limited Cards - 1 Per Deck Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning Breaker the Magical Warrior Butterfly Dagger - Elma Call of the Haunted Card Destruction Ceasefire Change of Heart Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End Confiscation Cyber Jar D.D. Warrior Lady Dark Hole Dark Magician of Chaos Deck Devastation Virus Delinquent Duo Exiled Force Exodia the Forbidden One Fiber Jar Graceful Charity Harpie's Feather Duster Heavy Storm Imperial Order Injection Fairy Lily Jinzo Left Arm of the Forbidden One Left Leg of the Forbidden One Lightning Vortex Mage Power Magic Cylinder Magical Scientist Makyura the Destructor Mirage of Nightmare Mirror Force Monster Reborn Morphing Jar Mystical Space Typhoon Painful Choice Pot of Greed Premature Burial Protector of the Sanctuary Raigeki Reckless Greed Reflect Bounder Right Arm of the Forbidden One Right Leg of the Forbidden One Ring of Destruction Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys Sangan Sinister Serpent Snatch Steal Swords of Revealing Light The Forceful Sentry Torrential Tribute Tribe-Infecting Virus Twin-Headed Behemoth United We Stand Witch of the Black Forest Yata-Garasu //Semi-Limited - 2 Per Deck Abyss Soldier Creature Swap Dark Scorpion - Chick the Yellow Emergency Provisions Good Goblin Housekeeping Gravity Bind Last Turn Level Limit - Area B Manticore of Darkness Marauding Captain Night Assailant Nobleman of Crossout Reinforcement of the Army Upstart Goblin Vampire Lord In each of the formats there are different staples. If you don't know what staples are, they are cards that fit into almost every deck. I'm only going to do the Advanced Format staples though. (If you need a Traditional list, ask) Advanced format staples: Monster staples: Breaker the Magical Warrior: When summoned, it gets a counter, and you can remove it to destroy a spell or trap card. It's a great effect. Breaker can easily be used for a 2 for 1. Destroy a Face-down, and attack since 1600 attack is pretty good. Tribe-Infecting Virus: People sometimes say this card can mess up your field in a themed type deck. (IE: Spellcasters, warriors.) There is around 20 different types of monsters in the game. Chances that you'll have a field full of warriors when your opponent has one warrior, are slim to none. This card will not mess you up and provides excellent removal. Plus 1600 attack is great. Sinister Serpent: This card has bad stats. It's effect makes up for it's stats completly though. This card gives you a lot of hand advantage, lightens the blow from Duo, discard fodder, morphable into a Thousand Eyes Retrict, and much, much more. D.D. Warrior Lady: This card isn't exactly a staple, but it is good. It's stats are 1500/1600, which will let it hold off for a while. It's effect is the best part though, the ability to remove a Sangan or Sinister Serpent from the game, will definitly give you an advantage. Sangan: This monster is a searcher. Once it gets sent to the graveyard, you can get a monster with an attack of 1500 or less. He gives you options of Night Assailant, Magician of Faith, Sinister Serpent, D.D. Warrior Lady, and plenty more. Also, this card is almost Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, Ring of Destruction proof. Your opponent isn't going to want to waste any of those cards just to let you get a monster from your deck. Spell Staples: Pot of Greed: This provides a 2 for 1 advantage, and thins your deck. One of the best cards. Graceful Charity: Draws extra cards, although it only provides no actual advantage though. Delinquent Duo: A mere 1000 life points for -2 hand advantage for your opponent. Very annoying IMO. xD Snatch Steal: This card gains control of a face-up monster permanently, but gives your opponent 1000 life points each turn. Who cares if you Snatch something good, like Airknight. Or you can even use this with Tsukuyomi, to gain control of a monster permanently. Premature Burial: This card costs 800 life points to activate. But you get a monster special summoned to your side of the field. Definite staple, since you can get something like Tribe Mystical Space Typhoon: Every deck needs S/t removal. This is a quick-play spell, which makes it great. Heavy Storm: Clear the entire field of S/t. Sounds good to me. Trap Staples: Mirror Force: This card provides mass removal. Clear field = direct hits. Fun Ring of Destruction: Provides Burn and removal. It's also chainable. Always a good thing. Torrential Tribute: Mass removal again. Clear the field for a big hit. Call of the Haunted: Gets back a monster from your grave with no costs. Awesome. ^^ Deck Themes: It is very important that you have a theme when building your deck. Decks will usually turn out very bad if you don't have a theme to stick to. Some deck themes: Cookie Cutter Chaos (CCC): In this, you'd obviously want to have Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and stuff like Magician of Faith, Metamorphosis, Scapegoat, stuff like that. This kinda of deck isnt just about getting out BLS though. Featured Cards: Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning Magician of Faith Tsukuyomi Scapegoat Metamorphosis Staples (Of course) Morphing Jar (Sometimes) Nobleman of Crossout Zombie: This kind of deck your going to focus around Zombie monsters. (Go figure xD) The Main card in a Zombie deck is Pyramid Turtle. He gets out other essential zombies, IE: Vampire Lord, Spirit Reaper, etc. Featured Cards: Pyramid Turtle Vampire Lord Spirit Reaper Book of Life Ryu Kokki (Sometimes) Staples Nobleman of Crossout Aggro: In here, the key idea is to trample with Enraged Battle Oxes, Berserk Gorillas, King Tiger Wanghus, and sometimes Airknight Parshath. Aggro and Chaos/Chaos Variations fit along side in the tier 1 category. Featured Cards: Enraged Battle Ox Berserk Gorilla King Tiger Wanghu Airknight Parshath (Sometimes) Staples Book of Moon Wave Motion Cannon Nobleman of Crossout Water: This deck has a few different styles to be played. Water Control, Water Morph, or just Water. The cards vary from different type. Water Control: Yomi Ship Mobius the Frost Monarch Revival Jam Mother Grizzly Metamorphosis Scapegoat Staples Some fusions Nobleman of Crossout Water Morph: Mother Grizzly Abyss Soldier Koitsu Scapegoat Metamorphosis Staples Cyber End Dragon Thousand Eyes Retrict Other Fusions Nobleman of Crossout Water: Levia Dragon - Daedaleus Abyss Soldier Staples A Legendary Ocean Nightmare Penguin (Sometimes) Nobleman of Crossout Gagagigo Spellcaster Control (SCC): This point to a spellcaster control deck is to use Apprentice Magicians to get out Hand of Nepyths/Magician of Faith out to get out the Phoenix/Spells. What used to see a lot of play, slowly seen less and less play. Featured Cards: Sacred Phoenix of the Nepyths Hand of Nepyths Scapegoat Magician of Faith Apprentice Magician Staples Metamorphosis Morphing Jar Tsukuyomi Skill Drain: This deck is based upon getting big monsters that have bad effects on the field to beat your opponent with that. Fusilier, Goblin Elite Attack Force, and more are good choices in a Skill Drain deck. Featured Cards: Goblin Elite Attack Force Fusilier Dragon - The Dual Mode Beast Goblin Attack Force Toon Goblin Attack Force Berserk Gorilla Skill Drain Final Attack Orders Staples *Note* Those are just some choices for a Skill Drain deck, a lot of card effects work under Skill Drain as well, such as Newdoria, Dark Necrofear, Exilied Force, etc. Since they activate in the graveyard. Bad Choices for a Skill Drain deck: Armor Exe - Skill Drain does not effect this at all. Do NOT use him. Ultimate Obedient Fiend - He just sucks. Not to be used. Hand Control: This deck bases on controlling your opponent's hand with Don Zaloog, Airknight, Mefist etc. When used properly they can be pretty Devastating. Featured Cards: Airknight Parshath Mefist the Infernal General Don Zaloog Mystic Tomato Spirit Reaper Mirror Wall Staples Solemn Judgement (Sometimes) Burn: One of the most known decks of today. Stall and wipe away your opponent's life points with Wave Motion Cannons, Stealth Birds, Lava Golems, etc. Featured Cards: Lava Golem Solar Flare Dragon (Sometimes) Stealth Bird Staples Scapegoat (Sometimes) Metamorphosis (Sometimes) Wave-Motion Cannon Side Decks: Side decks are every bit important as the main deck. Side decks can provide a lot of help. When making a side deck, you can use counters to a certain deck type, cards that will help out your deck in any situation, etc. Side Deck Example: 2 - Mobius the Frost Monarch - Anti-burn, extra s/t removal. 2 - Des Wombat - Anti-Burn 1 - Mystic Swordsman Lv2 - Stops Magician of Faith, Apprentice Magician, etc. 2 - Night Assailant - Combos with other side decked cards well 2 - Wave-Motion Cannon - Anti-Burn, nice to suprise any deck with this. *Great tech in a lot of decks* 1 - Card Destruction - Stops Exodia, Combos with Night Assailant 1 - Lightning Vortex - Stops Swarm decks, Combos with Night Assailant 2 - Dust Tornado - Anti-Burn, extra s/t removal 2 - Royal Decree - People who run a lot of traps. That's just a small sample of a side deck. Side decks usually vary depending on what kind of deck the person is running. More to come... |

i already know Red Eyes B. Chick + Red Eyes B. Dragon + Red Eyes Darkness Dragon and Inferno Fire Blast has to go in there, you can do around 6ooolp damage with one move. plus the darkness dragon gets powered up by any dragon in your graveyard and since you sacrifice the dhick to get the red eyes b. dragon and sacrifice that to special summon the darkness dragon, there you go two in there already ^_^ |
