[Name Pending] Huh? Another RPG? What about MU? Well, for one thing, MURPG is extremely unorganized. That makes it a pain to update and maintain. The story is more or less developed but still lacking stability and versatility, the battle system has too many variables that I have to somewhat randomly control, and the amount of players in one topic simply "lag" the adventure too much. Though this worked well in The Seven Shrooms, as PMB'ers may recall, and also somewhat in Mario Universe V1, this time around I find it too consuming to keep everything in mind. As I have it on indefinite hiatus, I decided to try another spin on text-based RPGs to see if I can get some ideas on how to reorganize MU, and also to have some fun. S..P...RPG. Not exactly a new idea, eh? Not at all, it's actually very common. Most forum RPG's use this system, like Lyria Region and Energy Wars did. Also, right here in WoN, we've got RPG's like Davis' It Goes on Forever and MetalYoshi's Universal Training. If you go check their forums, you'll see that members aren't at all hindered by people in different time zones, because they can advance individually. How will this RPG improve on MU then? Most every aspect of MU will be improved, I should think. Mostly I'm investing a lot into making the RPG speedier and more fluid (meaning less delay between posts). I'll be a lot tighter on time limits (people who cannot or don't post will be left on standby until they resume activity), using an equational system to calculate damage (therefore speeding up the battle modding process), and trying to get as much practical innovation into the RPG as I can ;D Innovation? Why, being the innovative genius that you are, we're bound to be in for a treat, eh? Of course, SoniCh- I mean random interview guy! This RPG has 3 completely different stories, each with a great number of variables, generating many different storylines. This means that people won't have their storyline spoilt by looking at members who have their topics more advanced - what happened to the might not ever happen to you. Skills? Special Attacks? This RPG will have 5 kinds of attacks. I won't reveal much here, but some ideas are transported from MU while others come from IGoF and UT, to name the few text-RPGs which have inspired me. Also, in a slight twist, this RPG will take place in a more present-day environment, being almost Nintendo-free (which I'm hoping won't put you all off), while also excluding the clichés such as swords, axes, etc. (Think Earthbound - bit more serious though) Hm. 3 different stories...non-Nintendo...how about character creation? Character creation will be as free as it has been in all my RPGs. Of course, it isn't recommended that your character has "Yoshi" as a race (though it IS acceptable). I'll be using Classes, still considering whether to implement sub-classes so you can mix things up. Basically, I want to make things cool, but keep them simple. Classes will probably only affect some skills you learn - I plan to have no restrictions on weaponry and equipment usage. OK then. When can we expect to see this ready? Oh shut up, don't rush me. But- I dunno, I still have to write down the starting basics for each storyline. I don't want any plotholes X.X How about member interaction? Being an SPRPG, it won't happen as often, but I will encourage members to help each other, confront each other, trade, etc. I can't reveal much more for now, you'll see ;D Any further questions, comments, and motivation is GREATLY appreciated (even though the majority of you won't care :( ) and can be sent to me via PM. |

MORE NEWS: We at News Channel, inc - Where News is Had have scored an exclusive interview with SoniChaos, the designer of this SPRPG. Read on as he reveals details about the 6 attack types you can have! News Channel: Hello SoniChaos. Uh, we can call you SC, right? SoniChaos: Most certainly not. You may call me 'Timmy'. NC: Oh, jolly well. Timmy, what can you tell us about the attack types you have planned for the upcoming SPRPG? SC: Why are you calling me Timmy? NC: Well, you just said- SC: I'm planning a grand total of 6 attack types. Yup, 6. I can give you the names, too: Physical Attack, Skills, Abilities, Auras, Encanta and Flash Moves. NC: Ooh. So, Physical Attacks work just like in every other PRG, right? Determined by attack power, reduced by defense... SC: Yeah yeah, can't get any simpler. Of course, these are usually weaker than other moves in some classes or at early levels, but bear in mind that Physical Attacks are the only moves that can score Critical Hits. NC: Which double their damage, right? SC: I'd say more like 2.5 times damage. NC: How about Abilities? How do they work? SC: Well, Abilities are also seen in one form or another in most RPGs. Think of them as Special Moves in MURPG, except in this SPRPG, they do not level up. Abilities are either learnt naturally as a character levels up, or are taught by certain NPCs along the way. There is no limit to the amount of Abilities one character can have. However, these early Abilities may lose their usefulness over time, as enemies and your character become more powerful, which explains why you should not only level up, but seek out any NPCs that might lend a hand. NC: OK, what about Skills? SC: Skills are a bit new. You can only use them if you have a weapon equipped, for starters, and they can only be bought from special shops, not learnt or obtained in any other way (except perhaps in certain points of the plot). NC: With weapons? SC: Well, all weapons in this SPRPG have at least one Skill Slot. Weapons with more Skill Slots are usually more expensive. In that slot, you can insert Skilorbs, which grant you a certain Skill. At any time (including during battle), you may swap your Skilorbs around. As I've mentioned before, you can only obtain Skilorbs by buying them or if some plot event determines that you should get one. You can view a moves MAX-Effect by checking Skilorbs, before equipping them. NC: MAX-Effect? SC: Ah, this is where it gets interesting. When you buy a Skilorb, it is still in a raw state. This means that its skill's effect is reduced. Each Skillorb has a number of Skill Points you must obtain before you can use the moves MAX-Effect. For instance: --DEMONSTRATION TIME :linksword -- Dynamo: Rams into an opponent violently, dealing great damage and possibly stunning. (85 BDMG, 25% STN) This is what you'd see if you checked Dynamo's Skilorb. That is its MAX-Effect, havign 85 as base damage and a 25% chance to stun. However, once equipped: Dynamo [5/9]: Rams into an opponent with some force, dealing moderate damage. (60 BDMG) As you can see, the move is substantially weaker. If you look at the numbers beside the name, you'll see the format used for Skill Points, which is X / Y, where Y is the maximum amount of Skill Points needed, and X is the current amount. --------------------------------------------------- SC: For each battle that you win, and also use the Skill at least once, you win a Skill Point. Some moves may become stronger as you reach the maximum amount of Skill Points. Just remember, the stronger a MAX-Effect is, the weaker a move starts out as and the longer it takes to max out. NC: Hm. Well, what happens if we have a Skilorb that has half the maximum amount of Skill Points, and we remove it from the weapon? SC: Ah. This is where strategy enters. Once a Skilorb is maxed out, it stays that way permanently. However, removing a Skilorb before it maxes out erases all previous Skill Points...players must choose wisely. NC: OK. Onto Auras... SC: Easy enough to explain. Auras are passive moves which come with rings. By equipping a certain ring, you gain access to its Aura. Auras cannot overlap, meaning the player must decide which Aura to favour in case he wishes to use 2 rings. Auras are also the only moves that level up. NC: Oh really? And how does that work? SC: Scattered throughout the world are Soulat Gems, which up your ring's Aura Level. These aren't common, but over time you'll be able to buy them too. Once a Soulat Gem is used, it dissapears, and upgrades your Aura of choice. NC: How are Auras buffed by levelling up? SC: Auras are divided into 2 types. One type has 3 levels: [P-Type] • LVL1 - Moderate effect, affects only yourself; • LVL2 - Strong effect, affects only yourself; • LVL3 - Intense effect, affects whole party. As for the other: [S-Type] • LVL1 - Moderate effect, affects only yourself; • LVL2 - Strong effect, affects only yourself; • LVL3 - Intense effect, affects only yourself. Be aware that, while 2 rings' Auras don't overlap if they are equipped on the same character, if they are equipped on different characters they can easily do so. i.e: Jack has HEALTH REGEN and MP REGEN equipped...only one will affect. Jack has HEALTH REGEN and John has MP REGEN (both P-Type, LVL3) - both members are affected by the auras. SC: I will use better names than HEALTH REGEN though xD NC: Finally, Flash Moves. What can you tell us about those? SC: Uh, they're big and powerful. You can learn them by levelling up or being taught...I don't want to get into those for now. NC: OK, that's all, I guess. Well, that IS all. Topic has been opened for discussion now. |

News Channel, inc - Where News is Had is back, with another special report! This time, we interviewed the hamster in SC's sig. Read on as he fills us in on Encanta and Flash Moves! News Channel: Why hello there, little critter. Detective Hamster: And a jolly fine squeakity to you too. NC: So, are we to understand that you came across some interesting info about Encanta and Flash Moves? DH: Yes...but, uh... NC: What is it? DH: Well, this IS classified information, so I'd appreciate it if you kept this under wraps. NC: No problem, it's not like we're gonna post this on a public forum or anything. Give us some credit, geez! DH: Fine, fine. Anyway, I'll start by mentioning the mysterious Encanta. As you may have heard, they are analogous to Magic and similar elemental attacks used in other RPGs. They cost MP (Magic Points) to use, and can be offensive, defensive or status-changing spells, mostly. They are elemental- NC: Fire, Water, Earth, etc? DH: Not even close. This SPRPG breaks free from that tradition, at least. You have 6 elements, which I will explain: Time - Manipulation of time as if it were a material essence. Climate - Manipulation of the weather, ability to change surrounding climate to drastic or subtle levels. Psyche - Manipulation of minds, whether it be your own, your allies' or your enemies'. Gravity - Manipulation of forces, ability to increase or reduce forces' (including gravitational) intensity. Sight - Manipulation of sight, improving or hindering combat ability. Soul - Considered to be the ultimate element, manipulation of will power. NC: Wow...that seems almost brand new. DH: Heh. Well, these moves are mostly very powerful, and as such the learning process is costly. Occasionally you'll find elementally-infused streams called Terra-Streams. By mixing some of the water with your character's blood stream, you gain the ability to manipulate that element. NC: !! Can't we just have a special stone teach us the magic? DH: Hah! Hilarious. Well, in this SPRPG, Encanta isn't a spiritual thing, like Magic is in most games. In fact, the process of using it is purely neurological. In this world, everyone already has the potential to cast Encanta, just not the means. By inserting elemental water into your system, you give your character's body the elemental attributes he/she/it needs. After a few battles, your character will be mentally prepared to use the moves. NC: So after we get infused, we can't use the moves for a while? DH: Well, no. The body will need at least 15 days to adjust to the elemental water. These days are counted in IRL time, which means that you can simply not post for 15 days if you wanted...although if the 15-day limit is up and you're in a battle, you still cannot use those spells until the end of the battle. NC: Anything else? DH: Don't think so...meaning we move onto Flash Moves. If you've played Mario Universe RPG v2, you've likely heard of Burst Moves. These were finishers, that consumed all your Aura Force. Well, they have a similar effect in this SPRPG. However, they consume a very specific type of energy, which is the [Flash Bar]. NC: ?! DH: Well, the [Flash Bar] will appear in-battle whenever your character learns a Flash Move. These are learnt either by levelling up or VERY RARELY taught by NPCs. You have a limit of 3 Flash Moves you can have equipped. Anyway, I digress... The [Flash Bar] is actually a percentage. It'll probably have a graphical image to represent it, and it goes from 0% to AWESOME (which is 100%). That isn't a typo, it literally has AWESOME as a max %. There are many ways to increase your [Flash Bar]. You'll choose a Stance at the start of the RPG, which you can change at any time outside of battle: Enduring: Taking any damage increases your [FB]. Aggressive: Dealing damage via Physical Attacks to opponents increases your [FB]. High-Focus: Dealing damage via Encanta to opponents increases your [FB]. Sympathetic: Damage suffered by your allies increases your [FB]. These are the initial 4 you can pick. There are others you can learn throughout the adventure, including... Impulsive: [FB] reaches AWESOME whenever your health is at 10% or lower. Follow-Suit: [FB] increases when allies' [FB] increases, only at half-rate. You will normally have a limit of Flash Moves per battle. Mostly, you can use 1 per normal battle, and more during boss battles. Do remember that not all of these moves are offensive, some may give you permanent stat changes for the battle while others may heal. Choosing Stances will depend heavily on the type of Flash Moves you plan to use. NC: And we can only have 3 at once, right? DH: Yeah, once you have 3 and want to learn another, you have to discard one of the older ones. Very Pokémonish. NC: OK, thanks for your ti-OH CRAP HERE COMES SONICHAOS DH: Dammit, back to hamster form. Squeak. Here ya go guys, more info. Discuss! =P It makes me happy. |

3 kinds of storyline! To prevent members from following the same plot, I've created 3 different storylines for the RPG. They are all connected somehow, which means players won't isolate themselves from others, but are all distinct. This prevents plot spoilers...but I can't say much more. In your sign-up, you'll choose from [Laguna], [Garren] and [Siniot]. Next update will be the sign-up template, guys. |

ZOMG! It... it cannot be... It IS! A new update ^^ First off, I was up late this week working out the battle equations, and I think I got it, my good sirs! For the initial phase of the RPG, at least. I won't leak 'em to ya, but I guess it's conforting to have progress. Today's update is mostly story-based. Yup, gonna release a preview of the plot for the different storylines you can follow, which has been increased from 3 to 5. There may be some FE: Radiant Dawn inspiration, as well as many other RPGs. Who cares, anyway?
Now, at the start of the game, you get to pick between 5 different storylines, 2 of which are pro-Empire, 2 which are anti-Empire and 1 which is neutral. [Anti-Empire] Laguna: You are a member of an independist group hidden in Laguna, with plans to overthrow Thon's reign over the Empire. Siniot: You are a member of the Siniot Gang, located in Istval, which kills, steals and lies in order to gain personal benefit. The gang is in constant conflict with the Istvallen Police Strike Force. [Pro-Empire] Istval: You are a member of the Istvallen Police Strike Force, and are imbued with the duty to protect and serve the citizens of the Empire. However, this Strike Force's main assignment is to control the anarchic groups rising throughout the countries, namely the Siniot Gang. Tendo: You are a member of an elite summoner squad in Garraen, the Tendo Summoners. These beings were genetically infused with the power to summon creatures from distant worlds to come to their aid. Your job is to bodyguard the leaders of Garraen, including Thon and his generals, and to confront any opposers to the Empire. [Neutral] Planice: You are a member of Zandief the Assassin's mercenary crew, settling in Planice as you await your next assignment. You never know what your next paid job will be... Essentially, everyone will follow a more or less set storyline. However, your goals are very different according to your affiliation: Anti-Empires aim to bring down Thon's rule, Pro-Empires aim to defeat the rebels and consolidate Garraen's supremacy, and Neutrals help the highest bidder. Thoughts? Which story seems to appeal to you the most? |

Well, all storylines have equal freedom, you can switch affiliations at any time and you never know what will happen in ANY storyline... Planice is the most variable, however. In any case, it'd be best if most people didn't rush off to Planice, it's more fun to be in more plot-important teams I'd think. |
