Kat nodded before heading out. "Commander, destroy these ships, whatever is on them is very dangerous, just wait for us to get out." |

"All right..." Croal sounded displeased. "All ships, open fire on the cruisers. Destroy them completely..." He spoke with an utter lack of enthusiasm. "That means we need to get off this lug of metal quickly..." Defin stated the obvious. Upon reaching the exit of the hangar, Kat and Defin discovered a bit of an issue. The large sealed hangar door had been melted through. A strange shape marked it... as if some creature blasted through. "What in the world?" On the positive side, the gap gave plenty of space for both to walk straight into the hangar. |

Kat drew her magnum. "We have an option here, go through the hanger and risk fighting whatever attacked the soldiers, or we go for the escape pods. We passed the pods on the way to the hanger, and a few were still there." she said quietly. |

"That's a point..." Defin backed away from the door. "Let's grab those pods." He did not wait to dash towards the pods. As they progressed, the ship suddenly shook violently. The lights blacked out (the back-up lighting provided some light) and the internal gravity system wavered. The ship began to tilt, causing gravity to shift along with it. "This is bad..." Only a few yards from the pods, both Defin and Kat were thrown to the wall, and, to make matters words, the metal crates in the room started to slide towards them. "Crap!" The Veteran pushed himself to his feet, now walking on the wall, running for those pods. |

Kat rolled into a run and body checked him into the pod, slamming the door behind them and hitting the launch button, her other hand working the seal latch on the door. |

Defin wasted no time and took over the flight controls. He directed the pod away from the cruisers at max propulsion. "Whew... that was close." Shots whizzed by and started to smack those cruisers. Many of them lost their shielding, so even the weaker Patriot weapons caused severe damage. Patriot ships surrounded most angles of the UDF fleet.

Kat called up the commander on the radio. "Commander, aim for the topmost engine nacel, the cooling systems for the reactor are in there." She said, then said to Defin, "i suggest you hit that blue button, we'll need the speed boost." |

"Right." Defin engaged the boosters as Kat advised. "I wonder what caused all that damage... how did those ships even get there?" While he questioned Kat, the Patriot ships focused their weapons as Kat directed. Soon after most of the cruisers exploded into many pieces. A few remained, but not for long. |

"Already done, Kat." Croal stated with confidence. "The last cruiser has been annihilated and we are detecting no more energy sigs. It is strange how the energy stone vanished..." One of the patriot cruisers moved towards their escape pod and picked them up. "We have fighters carefully scouting the wreckage, but, so far, we have found nothing. Come on to the bridge--both of you." |

"I agree." Defin gave a solemn nod. "Velador made it out as well." He directed the pod towards the cruiser. After landing, both went to the bridge and met up with Croal. He greeted them with his single applause and a large grin. The lieutenant stepped up to them. "Congratulations!" "For what?" Defin took a step back, not terribly happy with Croal's act. The officer shook his head. "Not you." Turning to Kat, he went on, "You have been accepted into our nation. You don't have to stay, but... if you do, we can offer you food, shelter, and protection for your brother." He rolled his eyes barely. "Of course, you still have to work, but your occupation is your choice." |

"Heh, all right." Defin nodded before walking off. Later on, the Patriot cruiser landed on the planet. As Kat exited the ship, she saw Thomas running up to her. "Hey, sis!" The younger sibling stopped a few feet in front of her. "Did you hear the news? They're going to make a house for us here... or anywhere we want to be. Though... this place is pretty peaceful." |

As Kat said, she and Thomas did in fact stay at the planet, and, Thomas mentioned, the Patriots even built a house especially for the siblings. At that, the house cost more than any other civilian structure at the time, so the house had all the fixings. As payment, Kat was employed as a drill sergeant. She guided soldiers in better training than any Patriot had done before. While time passed by, that planet, Ferdinan, become known for the astounding military training. Kat quickly grew popular with the average trooper and the higher-ranked officers. Even the civilian population respected her. Only two weeks after the cruiser incident, a report arrived from the UDF. An apology. Those cruisers were prototypes using an experimental engine. The fuel comprised mainly of Tranium--Energy Stone. During the latest testing, the ships jumped leaving the crews behind--in space. In other words, the cruisers appearance happened to be an accident. The United Dimensions Federation withheld no hidden intention to betray the treaty, for, in fact, some of the highest ranking officials in the nation gave the apology in person. They could be trying extremely hard to cover up something else, but that possibility set lowly. Although, they did not mention anything about strange creatures; the UDF seemed to lack knowledge of them When Defin got word, he started an investigation immediately. The desire to end the mystery of those creatures controlled his actions. During the period of investigation, the Veteran-ranked soldier stopped by Ferdinan several times. On a few occasions, Defin took Kat and Thomas out to eat, and, on a single, he went out with Kat specifically. In the future, Defin could even be the choice companion for Kat. That had yet to be seen, however. Eventually, months after the encounter, Defin found the answers he desperately searched for. Large holds of Energy Stone combined with massive energy can give birth to living Tranium. The "creature" seemed to feed off of any source of power, which explained the missing Tranium and the lose of power to the Cruisers. On the other hand, the answers posed a problem. Energy truly can't be destroyed, so the monster might still be out there. Possibly not. Either way, as the investigation ended, Defin, along with Velador, settled down at Ferdinan. All-in-all, Kat and Thomas owned a positive future. Many possibilities showed their faces to the siblings, and most proved to be good. Though, Kat did not escape the UDF completely. The nation still drastically affected the policy of the Patriots; nonetheless, some of the changes happened to be good. Still, the majority was not so, yet Kat was no longer directly controlled by the UDF. They had a home, money, food, each other, and more. The good overtook the evil by a long shot. And so, Kat and Thomas lived out their lives in peace and quiet. |
