"Actually, that's what I came to see you about." Croal smirked. "We got word about some enemy ships near this location. We don't know their identification quite yet, but I was wondering. Would you be willing to come?" He looked over to Thomas. "Your brother will stay here, and I'll have him stay at one of the civilians building nearby. After you return, you can stay there, if you would like." |

"I suppose." She said. "I got enough ammo for a few weeks of fighting too." She said pulling on her helmet. "Lead the way." She said as she took her knife and put a deep gouge in the death squad symbols on her armor. |

"Okay. Great. Meet me at the landing pad in the center of the dome." Croal pointed towards a large airfield nearby. He smiled and started to walk off. He gave a backhanded wave. "I'm going to grab my officers." |

Kat reached the landing pad pretty quickly. Two small cruisers rested in the center and a plethora of fighters and frigates sat nearby. Croal walked up to Kat from behind. "There you are. Well, we're getting ready to launch. Most of our soldiers are getting to their positions." He smiled and pointed to one of the cruisers. "We'll be riding in that one. Come on." He trotted to the vessel. |

The ships themselves were old and somewhat archaic; however, several modifications and added weapons helped make up for that disadvantage. Of all the pieces, the engines were the only to be of UDF creation. These vessels could move quickly. Entering, Kat discovered the inside to be quite cozy and up-to-date. Croal led her to the bridge--a heavy shielded section at the front center of the ship. "Welcome to the Majesty, Kat." The Lieutenant waved to the entire ship. "Not much by UDF standards, I know, but we've got it better than most other nations." |

"Looks like it can take a hit and keep going, meanwhile the UDF relies on it's projected shields and composite armr..." Kat said. "I like it." she said. "You got any EMP bombs on board?"

"Thank you." Croal gave a wide smile. Receiving a complement from a member of the UDF's elite meant a lot to the vast majority of people. "And... EMP bombs? No, not really, why do you ask?" |

"I see. That is a very useful piece of information, thank you." Croal smiled, before heading to the bridge of the ship. The crew had already made prepartions to leave. Their efficiency with the ships proved to be quite good... they could foreseeably oppose the UDF. "We are launching now." The lieutenant scanned the room. "All seems to be well." The ship gave a resounding rumble. Within moments, the ship lifted off and was followed by the rest of the small fleet. The vessel moved smoothly toward the sky. "The enemy is at the adjacent planet... we don't know what they are up to right now..." |

"Here." Croal tapped a few buttons. The screen at the front of the bridge turned on and revealed the opposing ships. "Sir," one of the helmsmen called out, "they are cruisers. They seemed to be unarmed, but the design is clearly UDF. They don't bear UDF markings, though." "All right. Move in, let's check this out." The ships moved in closer. "This is probably a trap, tell the nearest fleet to be on standby." "Yessir." |

"Hail them on the comms first... we once rigged a UDF ship to blow once the enemy got close enough to get swallowed by the reactor blast." Kat said. "however i doubt they'd sacrifice this many ships, hidden weapons are a possibility though." Kat continued. "How fast can we bug out if needed?" |

"Our ships have overall better speed than most UDF ships," Croal boasted. "So... after engagement, we could pull out in two minutes." He looked at the monitor closely. "How many ships are you reading?" "Uh..." The helmsmen watched the scanners closely. "I cannot tell. It seems to be seventeen, sir, but the ships are fading in and out of radar." The Lieutenant turned to his fellow soldier. "Radar jamming?" "I... don't think so. It's something they are carrying. It's interfering with our scanners." "Tell the other ships to move cautiously... I wonder what those ships are carrying..." The communication soldier contaced the other ships. In moments, the fleet slowed down. Croal went on. "Send one fighter squadrons to get in close, while staying hidden. I want a closer look, before we decide to engage." As his command, five fighters pushed forward. |

"I agree... but we cannot let them waltz around in our subspace." Croal stroked his chin carefully. "Corporal, tell the nearest fleet to get over here. We cannot possibly take on all those ships with this one. Also, tell the rest of our fleet to launch off Ranum and Velencia." "You got it." The helmsman continued speaking over the comms. The fighters drew quite close to the ships, but... the enemies did not react. "HL," One of the fighter pilots communicated, "They do not seem to be moving. But, we cannot scan their inventory... Going to take a closer look." Croal responded, "Be careful." |

"As she says," Croal told the pilots. "Understood." The pilot responded. A single fighter moved in closer and circled several of the cruisers. None reacted. "Strange." The Lieutenant muttered. "They don't seem to be doing anything. We can't detect activity on board because of their cargo either..." He pushed a side over to Kat. "The UDF doesn't come to our territory often. "Boarding vessels?" Croal mulled over the words. "Get three shuttles ready and load them fully with soldiers. Send them over ASAP. As Kat said, move around in a circle. I want two frigate escorts for each of these shuttles and fighters scouting everywhere nearby." Just at that moment, another cruiser with accopanying frigates and fighters came into view. "Lieutenant, you called?" A voice over the comms spoke. "Hey!" Croal smiled largely. "What are you doing in these parts?" The other officer was probably an old friend of Croal's or something. "I was in the neighborhood on an operation, and I happened to finish shortly after you called for assistance. I thought I'd stop by." The leader of the other cruiser chuckled. "Well, we were just about to board these enemy vessels," Croal explained. "Mind helping our flimsy fleet set up the perimeter." "Board? That's an old idea... all right. Will do." One the screen, Kat could see the other ships moving into formation with Croal's fleet. Off the comms, Croal looked over to Kat. "That's Lieutenant Hardy. We went through officer training together." |

As the boarding vessels drew closer to the enemies, another allied cruiser and fleet arrived from the nearest planet. They were probably another part of Croal's fleet, as they already began to join the formation. After a minute, the squads entered onto three different ships. "Okay, we're on board," A marine stated over the comms. "Moving in now." "Understood," Croal replied with a determined look. Hardy spoke up, "If we can get these vessels, we could take back the territory the UDF took from us. These are full-fledge cruisers; though, I don't understand what happened to all the weapons." He hummed and sighed. |

"Do as she says." Croal ordered over the comms. "She?" Hardy inquired. "Who is that, might I ask?" "I would rather keep that on the down for right now." The other lieutenant sounded with a measure of disappointment. "All right, all right. Targeting all weapons on the cruisers." The next several seconds went without a word. Then finally one of the marines piped up, "Sirs, the crew is missing. There is no one on-board. We are on the bridge and we checked the database. The ship's auto-pilot hasn't been set once." "Huh, what?" Croal's face filled with worry. "What about the energy readings? What is the carge?" "Don't know yet, but a team is on their way now." The marine seemed edgy about the whole situation, but he did not question any orders. "You know they should get out of there, right?" A familiar voice opened up on the comes. Defin. "Whatever on there is dangerous, isn't that obvious?" "We cannot let the ships sit there." Croal replied simply. "Destroy them." Defin gave an even simpler response. "Drop it. We need those ships." It seemed like Defin's insolence stretched beyond Kat. |

"He's got a mouth on him..." Kat muttered. "If we hit the cargo with the wrong type of weapon, for example, reactor fuel with the photon cannon, a cargo of that size could wipe all of us out. It's a better tactical idea to see what's on board first." Kat said, not looking away from the displays. turning to the display operator she asked, "Is there a live feed from any of the team we can watch? if there is a bomb i can instruct on defusing it if the team doesn't know how." Kat said. |

"Unfortunately, we cannot get visual from them. We are not the UDF," Croal told Kat. "The comms are the best we can offer." A sigh. Two fighters zoomed out of formation. Kat recognized both as the two Defin and his "pet" used. "Huh? What are they doing!" Croal rushed over to the microphone. "Defin, get back into formation." Static. "That imbecile!" Hardy piped up. "Someone who doesn't obey commands, eh?" "Insubordiation is common with him... I don't know why he hasn't been fired yet." Craol then ordered all the other fighters to move in an disable Defin's ship. "We'll see how far he gets this time." Over thirty other small ships moved in onto Defin. Meanwhile, the progress on the other ship continued. "We've made it to the cargo bay, sir." A marine stated. "Scanning... huh? Sir, this is... Tranium." The Patriots gave a more official term to what Kat knows as Energy Stone. The rarest, most powerful substance known at this point. "Tranium... how much?" Croal's eyes shot open. "Several tons." "Same over here, sir." A marine from another ship sounded. Energy Stone fueled the UDF's largest ships, and often powered the strongest troops of that nation. It was even used in some of the weapons Kat had used herself. A near limitless supply of energy. While the substance is not generally volatile, Tranium can be made into a bomb. This amount would destroy, as Kat had mentioned, entire systems. On the other hand, this amount would be uncalled for and inefficient. |
