Walking along, Jen and Kerzn saw a tree in the distance, and, as they walked on, they realized that the tree stretched at least a hundred feet into the air. After the twenty minute walk, they noticed a large complex of structures inside this massive tree. A BIIIIIGGG tree house. "Wo..." Kerzn gawked. Every picture of Dragons he once had shattered. The Dragon flew up into complex and landed on the first floor--the entrance. A sturdy ladder guided the path to the first floor. Careless of his wounds and wetness, Kerzn started up the ladder and walked up to the door. "Where is your mother?" Poke piped up, "She's at the top, probably." "The top?" The Leison's eye twitched at the thought. "We have to climb all that way?" Beilaed shook his head, walking inside. "Oh no, we eat down here. Come on..." The door way happened to be wide and tall enough for Dragon's--big. Moments after, the four entered a hallway filled with eating halls. Some big, some small. The siblings stopped in one big room and took place at the table--that is, sitting with their bottom and hind legs at the seat and the front legs on the table. "This place is... big," Kerzn muttered. Big... and empty. |

Jen seemed to have her head on a swivel as she looked around at everything, her eyes wide. Such a strange place, like some fairy story. . . only with dragons living in it. She almost seemed to expect the out-of-the-ordinary now, as if her worldview had been shifted, only a little. |

Kerzn walked over to the nearest table and sat down, still exhausted. "Where is your mother?" He asked directly. Beil looked over to the Leison. "She is preparing the meal. She should be here soon..." The young Dragon drifted off, looking to the doorway. A sizable Dragon calmly walked into the room. This beast owned a sleek design. "Who are the guests?" The large one asked in a warm motherly tone. Poke happily explained, "They have been running from Shadow, mom, so we invited them to stay with us." The maternal figure nodded and smiled. "I'll go prepare some extra meal, for our guests. Please make yourself at home." Kerzn nodded silently. |

Kerzn waited for food, practically ignoring the two younglings nearby. A few minutes later, the Dragoness walked in, carrying a large pot in her maw. She placed the food-filled bowl onto the counter and carefully turned to the others. With a warm kind voice, the Dragon explained, "My name is Veselph. Welcome to our home--Venterrer. Or Sky Earth." Sitting down next to the counter, Veselph motioned to some cabinets. "You can grab some bowls in there. Utensils are in the drawer below. Help yourself." She walked back into the kitchen slowly. "Go first." Kerzn told Jenneire sternly. Beilaed and Poke remained in their seats, seeming to wait for the two guests to get their food. |

"Alright, alright." Jen slowly got up, and served herself- also getting a bowl of stew for the other leison in the house, as she sat back down, her tail wagging just a little. |

Kerzn noticed Jenneire get him some food as well. When she sat back down, he sighed, "You didn't have to do that." Despite his objection, he started to eat. After the two Leison retrieved their food, the younger dragons poured some of their own into bowls. They utilized their tails on the ladle to pour their on soup, and, when they sat back down, they again used their tails on spoons. Interestingly, these polite creatures fed themselves using utensils, but Kerzn paid little mind. Veselph returned with a pot of her own and a large spoon. She too ate with her tail and a spoon. While they all participated in the meal, an eerie quiet set in. In such a big place, one might think that noise would abound, but people lacked to make such. Where was everyone? |

Veselph swallowed the food in her mouth and looked at Jenneire plainly. "Venterrer used to be filled with many people. Dragons and Forest Trolls coexisted here for generations." She took another sip of her soup and continued, "A man came by around eighty years ago. I was Beil's age at the time. Anyways," she went on, "this human was searching for recruits to make a new world order. The prospect was promising, and he literally caught the minds of every person in this fortress. My mate and I differed none from the rest." Kerzn stopped Veselph, "Hold on. What does this story have to do with the lack of people?" "I am getting to that, please let me finish." Veselph dropped her spoon and stood up calmly. She walked up to Jenneire and Kerzn and continued her story, "Overtime his man convinced us to start a revolution. Of course, during this time, the first Drago-Ashrin war raged, so we could barely conceive such a thing, but he explained how he wished to end all war. His words seemed so heavenly... we all fell for the ploy." She paused and sighed. "Afterwards, he left to find more recruits, leaving us for decades. When he came back, he formed an organization called Shadow, along with the other recruits he made. Everyone left to serve him. Aronai Devolver." Did that make sense? Eighty years ago, Aronai lived? |

"For the longest time either did I... for my mate was chosen as a leader of Shadow." Veselph frowned and shook her head. "Aronai took my Arnel and changed him. He used to be kind and loving, but Aronai made him a monster. He even made him a human by scarring his scales with Troll symbols." "Dad left us," Beil added in bitterly. "We stayed here... as the only three left. A few other people returned for some time, but they left years ago." The whole time Poke kept quiet, but he seemed sad over the whole thing. "That explains a lot..." Kerzn said thoughtfully. "But, I have to ask... what was Arnel doing here? He..." "He died on the battlefield, yes," Veselph finished Kerzn's sentence. "Somehow, Shadow managed to resurrect him, but for some reason he came here to us... to me. I suppose he found you as a threat and attacked you, but you took care of him. I saw." She chuckled. "At least when his mind decayed, he came back to me, but he still was not my Arnel." Even with all these questions answered, a new one stood out. Humans can't live for more than a hundred years at the most, yet Aronai was an adult eighty years ago? His age must have been at least 100, but everyone knew how young he looked. Kerzn thought over the Dragoness' words and began to wonder how much he had changed. Did he leave behind people that loved for him? He was an orphan, but he still had some care for him. Why has all this happened? I take one step towards the... light, and I thrown into it. It's almost the same as the darkness, but I cannot complain this time. |

"You are welcome. Anyone that has suffered the pain of Shadow is welcome here." Veselph smiled warmly, before finishing her meal. "You can stay at the guest quarters down the hall from here. I will be reading in my study. If you wish to talk to me, please talk with my sons and I will come to you... unless you feel like climbing a few stories of stairs." She chuckled and walked away. "I will be cleaning dishes." Beil plopped towards the kitchen, and Poke followed. Kerzn said nothing and simply stood up. Distractions spelled all over his face, while he looked around for those bedrooms. |

After a minutes of searching, the two wayward souls found a dorm room filled with soft-looking beds. "Sleep..." Kerzn muttered and sat down on the nearest one. "It took two days for my entire perspective of Shadow to be overturned, gashed to pieces, and trampled under foot." Despite the negative words, he sounded semi-positive. "How everything has changed..." |

Kerzn nodded after she went to sleep, and then hit the hay himself. The next morning came slowly--at least for the Leison sniper. Hours into the night, he finally concluded that Shadow was evil and admitted to the evil he had caused. After a restless night, he stood up and went to the window, staring at the rising sun. His heart hurt. He killed a lot of innocent people... |

Kerzn walked to her quietly. His words jumped suddenly and sternly, "I'm sorry... I screwed up." Kerzn gave a light chuckle. His heart was warmed by the response--to him that was a measure of forgiveness. From that point on, Kerzn devoted himself to righting the wrongs he had committed. He started with helping Veselph maintain the tree fortress. It seemed he and Jen would be staying for long time. ~~~~~ (Day 10 of 14) A long time had passed. The pack had been missing for a couple days, and Shadow was no where in sight. No one was in sight, in fact. Darius stayed in a cave--the same one he met Friday in over a week ago. Friday's town sat in decaying ruin yards away. He relaxed at entrance of the cave, contemplating what had happened to his people. They said they would be back three days ago. I can understand a day late... but are they okay? He was not only concerned for the pack. but also for himself Do I have to sit here the entire time? I can scavenge for food... but I don't know how much more there is to find. And Wish... Allen better be taking good care of you. |

He could hear something through the trees, and see a couple flashes of gold-colored fur. . . Well, at least until Shellea came out in the open, looking confused, lost, and not sure of anything. Where the heck am I? she thought mournfully, her three tails drooping behind her, their tips covered in mud- apparently they hadn't been raised for a good long while. She was lost, confused, as she just flopped down in the clearing, her gold-colored fur looking tattered and unkept. She was sick with worry for her pack- she feared the worst, but didn't know for sure yet. |

Darius jumped with excitement at the sound of something more than himself. They've come back! He had not seen his family in over a week. The pack struck a Shadow outpost and attempted a rescue of a few villages. Darius' group helped in the attack, but the two others who participated with him fell in combat. Thankfully, he finished his group's objective. The attack on Shadow destroyed the main escape route, should they begin to retreat, so, if the other teams of Ashrin succeeded, little of Shadow would remain in that area. Unfortunately, it seemed that his pack had failed, for they had not returned to the village at the allotted time. Their deaths did not weight on his mind, for he held a positive view. Even so... any signs of their return brought joy to his heart. Hope reflecting of his eyes, Darius dashed towards the other person, wondering who from the pack had come back. He burst from the brush but, upon sight of Shellea, stopped. What...? That's not my pack. Golden fur was atypical for his family of Ashrin--his personal color resembled a rust tint. At that, the others of his group would not keep themselves in such a mess of dirt and sadness--not without good reason. Considering the town ruins were the meeting place for his pack, none of them would have reason for depression. Getting to the location meant reunion with family, after all. Taking that into consideration, Darius carefully walked towards Shellea, unsure if she worked for Shadow or not. Well, she doesn't seem threatening. Did she escape from Shadow's grasps? Carefully walking forward, Darius eyed Shellea closely. Three tails... so should a fight ensue, he could win fairly easily. Then again, attacking another Ashrin was a less-than-pleasing prospect. Hello...? Who are you? He asked simply, hoping not to scare or anger the other Ashrin. Are you lost? He added afterwards. Edited by Trinity-Dragon, May 14 2011, 10:58 PM.

She turned her head to look at him- and suddenly had the look of a deer in the headlights, seeming to think for a couple seconds. I. . . I haven't seen you before. she thought, before her face went to an even more mournful expression than before. Her whole lower body seemed to be covered in mud, now that he looked at it, as if she hadn't cleaned herself off in who knows how long. I-I'm shellea. she managed to say to him, after the question registered. She seemed to just gaze upon him dully, down in the dumps. Edited by The Enemy, May 15 2011, 04:49 PM.

Shellea? Darius parroted the name. His eyes scanned the unkempt condition of her body. Shadow or not, she wouldn't cause trouble in a condition like that. His thoughts ran around cautiously. I suppose she is a stray... where is her pack? Does she have one? I may wish to avoid the conversation, though. She does looks hungry... Darius brought himself a few feet closer and sat down calmly. Would you like some food and water? A fresh water well is nearby, and I know where to get some "munchies." I also have a hidding place nearby. She looks like she could use rest. |

Mmmmm. . . shelter sounds nice. She slowly stood up again. She didn't seem too strong, even for a three-tailed ashrin, as if she had gone too long without food and water- which was probable, in this case, everything pointed towards it. She seemed to gather something from a inner reserve, seeming more aware. Can't relax. . . not till I have my pack again. . . W-who. . . are you?

Darius realized is failure to introduce himself. Could one be any more suspicious by offering a weakened female a place of safety? He cursed his stupidity mentally, before replying, I am Darius. My pack is missing, currently... so I suppose my affiliation matters little. Although, I do fight against Shadow. Courteously, he bowed his body by standing on his hind legs and bending his front. Please to make your acquaintance, ma'am. He paused a moment before continuing. You can stay here... I will bring food and water to you. Does that sound appropriate? |
