Sthrain's hands began to glow dimly as they contacted the grassy floor. "Hm..." The sounds from earlier ringed louder in Foone's ears. She could hear light footsteps, as if of a youth or a child. "It's something with this cliff, but I don't know what. We can't stay here, though." Sthrain looked at his wife, noticing that she was focusing. "Do you hear something?" |

"Footsteps?" Sthrain repeated the word quietly and carefully. He migrated over to a nearby tree, listening for the sound, but he could not detect it. The noise neared. They could see a boy sneaking around the forest a little distance away. He apparently hadn't noticed Foone or Sthrain. This young one had clearly not mastered his sneaking abilities. Sthrain remained silent, watching carefully. |

The boy walked around, weilding a sizable sword. The weapon was obviously too big for this adolscence. "He doesn't look dangerous," Sthrain whispered to Foone. "And, if he bumps into the Shadows... he could get killed." |

Sthrain sighed and stood out from behind the tree, waving. Thinking about his action, he realized that if Foone stepped out, she would probably be thought as a member of Shadow. "Hey." Sthrain verbalized a word. The boy immediately turned to Sthrain and pointed the sword at him. "Who are you? Are you a part of Shadow?!" "Shhh!" Finger covered Shtrain's mouth. "They are near-by, but I escaped from Hadred. I was a slave there." The boy tilted his head. "Slave?" Lowering the sword he walked over. "Don't you know wandering this forest is dangerous?" Sthrain was tempted to ask the same question. |

"I came to look for the others." The boy said impatiently. "Have you seen them?" Others? He probably meant the Troll entourage... that was slaughtered by the Shadows. "Uh... no. Uhm... is there a village around here?" Sthrain tried to avoid the topic all-together, for he could not bear to explain to a youngling. "Yes." "Is it safe?" The boy nodded. "Duh. They always are." Sthrain felt a sweat droplet descend from his brow. Of course... not like our village was destroyed or anything. "Could you please take us there? We have nowhere to go." "Fine..." The little one slouched with annoyance. "Come on then... we have to be quiet." Sthrain so badly wanted to say, "duh," but he refrained. The boy started walking and the older Troll followed, looking over to Foone. "At least we found other people." |

Foone simply followed the both of them, hoping that they would not be found before they had found safety. "Y-yeah. . . I just hope we can get away from all of this. . ." she says slowly, sadly, her tail drooping as she followed. |

Only several minutes passed before a village came into sight. Foone and Sthrain could pick it out with ease, but the town obviously had camoflauge covering the entire thing. Moreover, a large mass of trees surrounded the buildings. All-in-all, anyone with an untrained eye would not notice the place until they were already in it. The boy brought the couple there. He left them for a moment and headed into a house. Not too long after, he strode back out and showed them a house they could stay in. Evening set in at this point. Sleep might have been a bad idea. Sthrain walked to the empty house and didn't care that no one greeted them. He merely flopped onto the nearest bed. |

The exhausting day dropped sleep onto their weary bodies. (Day 9 of 14) That next morning, a young Troll maid stirred the couple. "Excuse me," She interupted, "the chief would like to speak to you." Chief referred to the "mayor" of a troll village or town. Sthrain rolled over. Unfortunately, the bed was not where he rolled over to. Slam! "Ooooow!" "Sir?" The maid looked over at the other Troll. "Are you all right?" "Yeeeah. Peachy." He groaned painfully, as he stood up. |

(I'm going to skip around a bit in the next few posts to get through these boring parts.) Sthrain moved over to the edge of the room. "Where is he?" "The center building," The maid replied ever so politely. "Okay, thanks." The Troll left the building with his wife and went to the center structure. There, the two met an elderly gentleman and his family. They were all quite nice and accepted Sthrain and Foone's "unusual" companionship without problem. The old man happened to be the chief. After the greets, the man permitted both to stay in town; although, they would have to pitch in with work. Then the talk gained somberness. The chief inquired if Sthrain and Foone had seen an armed group of Trolls recently. Foone was the first to acknowledge. The obvious next question asked what happened. After some silence, Sthrain explained what he saw with a perturbed tone. The disortation only took a few minutes. At the end, the chief thanked Sthrain and Foone. Those soldiers used to live in this village. No more troops existed to provide for the defence of the "outpost." The Troll-Leison couple returned to their new home minutes later. |

"I agree." Sthrain nodded while his arm curled around Foone. "We finally found a safe place. Well... safer. The chief didn't say we had to start work on anything... so let's relax for today." He collapsed on the bed, sore from the previous bed. "Their beds are comfy, at least."

The couple enjoyed a very relaxing day. Shadow did not show face; the camoflauge of the town probably worked. (Day 10 of 14) The next day began with another meeting with the chieftain. He began to ask them about their qualifications and jobs, but, before the "interview" could finish, the young Troll boy came bustling in. "Dad! Dad! The Dragons are coming!" "What?" The chief stood up. "How did they find us?" The boy yelled. "I don't know, but we need to find a hiding place!" Meanwhile, Sthrain conversed quietly with Foone. "They found the village... so much for the hill..." |

The chief walked over to the door and looked back at Sthrain and Foone. "We don't have any place to go. They have been destroying our escape spots." "Uhm... okay." Sthrain scratched his head. Then a light bulb went on. "Hey, how long do we have?" The boy looked at them. "You guys... uhm... I don't know. They were at the edge of the forest, but they had enough soldiers and guns to destroy the entire forest." That statement etched further anger in Sthrain's mind, but Sthrain could not just forget his new idea. "Okay... we have a little bit of time. Foone, get the guns. Chief, please gather everyone at the village... I think I found a hiding place." What could this man be thinking of? Without waiting for a reply, he dashed out of the village, heading to the cliff he and Foone found two days ago. |

Despite Sthrain's suddeness, the chief grathered the village people together. In the meantime, Sthrain stormed through the forest and stopped at the cliff. "I know there is something here. But what?" He put his face to the ground, tuning himself with the plants and the earth as much as possible. "A cave...?" He looked over the edge of the cliff carefully. He could see an opening, but barely. Without hesitation, his hands and feet put to the ground, shoving him upward. The Troll dashed back toward the village. A few minutes later, Foone and the others could Sthain coming. Once in distance, he explained, "I found a cave by that strange cliff. If we have any nature adepts, we can get everyone down there." "I am trained in magic," The chief replied. "How far is this cave?" "If we can hurry, only a few minutes." Sthrain stepped over to Foone. "May I have my gun?" |

The chief followed Sthrain to the cliff, along with the rest of the citizens. Even with the elderly and the sick, they reached the cliff within a few minutes. No signs of Shadow yet, but any wasted time could result in getting caught. After Sthrain showed him the cave, the chief commanded a nearby tree to make a walkway to the cave. Sthrain and Foone went in last, guarding the other with the rifles. Eventually, they all got into the caves safely. Fortunately, the hollow owned considerably room for the temporary residents, and, for the most part,, the cave seemed pretty normal. Although, one serious oddity could be seen. The entire cave was scarred with a vast number of markings. Troll markings. They did not react and only posed as decorations. Several minutes after getting inside the cave, everyone settled down. Sthrain sat by the edge. |
