Sthrain and Foone reached Nathen's place the following day. Neither had a problem during the journey to. Foone arrived first and Sthrain shortly thereafter; though Nathen was not around. "Old man!?" Sthrain called out. "Hello?" He looked around but failed to find him. "Okay. That's quite odd..." |

After a few moments, they heard some voices coming their way. One sounded like Nathen. In a moment, Nathen and a middle-aged, strong-built, well-dressed soldier walked in. It was almost freightening to look at the soldier. "Oh?" The soldier looked at Foone and Sthrain. His voice was incredibly deep. "Are these the two you meant?" "Yes." Nathen nodded. "Sthrain, Foone, meet Commander Cordial. He would like to help your circumstance." |

Cordial walked up to the two. "Well, I hear you are married. Is that correct?" "Y-yeah..." Sthrain nodded nervously. "I see. We Humans are not adjusted to heteroracial pairings." Cordial looked closely at the couple. "So, they keep you seperate from each other, right." "Uh-huh," was Sthrain's simple reply. "Do you think... we could be set free?" Cordial shook his head sternly. "No. We can't do that. Hadred currently has the entire world against it, so we need to have all the equipment to defend ourselves." He looked back at Nathen. "On the other hand, I do not like the treatment of the slaves. We conquered you fairly, but that doesn't mean you should be treated less than Human. Hm..." His head switchd back to the couple. |

"I do not have control over the factories. I am merely a high-ranking soldier." Cordial explain simply. "I'll see what I can do. I would like you two to come with me. If you don't speak for yourselves, I doubt the head taskmaster will even listen." A sigh. "Please be extremely respectful here, if the taskmaster sees disrespectful, disobdient 'slaves,' he won't think twice about punishing you more. Your lives are at stake, as are many others." |

Sthrain walked with Foone. "Don't worry honey. I'll do the talking, so don't panic." He gently held her hand. "The taskmaster is not a complete jerk," Cordial added in. "As long as you don't get on his bad side, you'll be fine." Whether or not that was meant to be calming, Sthrain did not feel any better. Walking on, the three drew closer to the factory. They were going back... |

The three entered a side entrance to one of the factories. After getting inside, a long daunting hallway sat in front of them. At the end rested a door labeled "Do not enter." Despite the sign, Cordial walked directly to it and stopped waiting for the others. "Are you ready?" Sthrain swallowed. "I think so." |

Cordial opened the door and walked in. Sthrain followed cautiously. Inside the door, rested a small, intricate office. High-class chairs, desk, and flooring painted the room, along with expensive-looking lights and a golden name plate on the desk. "Taskmaster Wung." A rather short man sat in the chair at the front of the desk. "Commander?" The first word came out surprised. "What the hell are you doing here? Didn't you read the sign?" Cordial smirked. "I'm a military officer, you should be honored to have me barge into your office." Cordial grabbed a seat and plopped it opposite of Wung. "I have two people that would like to talk to you... two of your slaves." "What!? How did they get out?" Anger filled Wung's expression. "Relax, they haven't been skimping on work... or have you already forgot the purpose of the slaves?" Cordial remained calmd and collected. "...fine." Meanwhile, Sthrain was shriveling up inside. Wung could tear him apart, it seemed. The commander waved to the Troll. "Go ahead, Sthrain." "R-right." Sthrain nodded. "Sir... um, uh..." He stepped forward and took a deep breath. "Sir, my wife and I are of different races. I understand that Humans are not used to marriages like that, but... well... we rarely get to see each other. S-so, I was wondering... if somehow... you could work it out that we could work together... or at least share quarters." Wung stared at Sthrain for a few silent moments. "You two are married?" He glanced over to Foone. "Y-yeah..." "If I work this out for you, then I will have to do the same for other married couples, you understand?" Wung looked down at his desk and tapped it repeatedly with his fingers. "That would take time and money. What could be possibly gained for me to... reunite couples?" Sthrain froze. The gears of his mind span faster than ever before... "W-well... the slave would be happier." How stupid that sounded. "The slaves would be happier? Ha! Nice try." Wung shook his head. "You're wasting my ti-" "That would be less likely to rebel and more likely to produce more." Cordial piped in. "Does that sound appealing enough?" "..." Wung looked at Sthrain and Cordial. Before long, he took to Foone. "Do you have anything to say, Miss? You've been silent this entire conversation." |

"Well. . . I think that reuniting married couples would also mean people would work harder, and contribute more. Also, probably need less guarding, because we wouldn't be as inclined to try and escape." she says quite nervously. She shifted her feet, and looked down at them. |

"So, nothing useful to add... typical of a woman." Wung rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll figure something out, but don't expect the royal arrangements. Not like we have infinite space to work with." Sthrain was thinking over Wung's sexist comment, but he could say nothing without risking lose of priveleges. "T-thank you," said Sthrain bitterly. "Now, get out of my office. Cordial, next time you decide to rush into my office, I will be talking with your superiors... think a little more next time. Shoo, shoo." The taskmaster waved the three away, and Cordial calmly stood up and walked out. Sthrain must less collectedly followed. |

Cordial walked them to the exit. "You'll have to return to your seperate quarters until he adjusts everything." "That's fine... as long as we can be together again," Sthrain told the commander. The two had an uneventful evening at their places. Thankfully, the guards didn't question their late return. The next morning proved to be very different. Instead of the usual "get up it's time for work," the slaves were allowed to sleep in slightly and, when they all started to get ready for work, the slaves weren't allowed to leave their quarters. Some were even told to go back to sleep. Finally, at mid-morning, Sthrain and Foone were ordered to come out of their "cells." The human taskmasters took both of them to Wung's office... they met at the hallway. "Taskmaster Wung wishes to see you," One of the lesser taskmasters said. "Enter when you're ready." The humans left the couple directly in front of the door. Sthrain looked over to Foone. "I'm confused" were his only words. |

Sthrain walked in the building with Foone. Wung was standing by a cabinet flipping through some papers. "You came. I was beginning to wonder if you would show up. Sthrain stopped at the door, unsure of what to say. "Just come in. I want your help." "H-huh?" Sthrain raised a brow. Wung turned around and faced the two. "It was your idea to rejoin couples, so I think it's just and fair for you to figure out the details too." "Wait... now I'm confused." "Typical." Wung took forward and tightened his voice. "Look, I'm offering you a job to organize the slaves in the best way possible. We don't have many resources to do so. I'm not just talking about putting couples back together either." He waved his hand to the side. "I'm giving today and the next day off of working. Your job is to make the most productive way of making the slaves happy. Of course, I'm the final judge as to what gets implemented." |

"But, it's not." The taskmaster gave a scary smile. "For a job well-done, I'm offering freedom to both of you. Of course, leaving Hadred may be difficult, but you will no longer be forced to work in the factory." Sthrain's mind nearly went hay-wire. Yesterday, the taskmaster barely even considered Sthrain's idea. "What changed your mind?" The Troll asked back. "Well, I thought about your idea awhile last night... about some different options I had." Wung took a seat as his desk. "If your help made all the slaves even slightly more proficient, then the loss of you would not matter. Besides, we constantly have an influx of more slaves, and... we already have too many." |
