I guess so. Ureshai sulked to the floor. Do you think Elm will be okay?

"She'll be fine. Just give her some time." Allen said with a smile.

Okay. Thanks. Carol lied on the floor. He fell silent at that point--obviously thinking over the recent events.

The trip to the train wreck was mellow. No signs of shadow... but no signs of anybody. Destruction and emptiness filled the land. A solemn air set around world--a peaceful chaos.

Upon arrival, Allen found the ravished train exactly where he left it. A side from some minor plant growths, the scrap of metal was in the same condition as before. When Allen pulled up and stopped, Carol jumped off the side and walked up to the junk.

So... this is what happened with your old train... His words fell slowly. You never did tell Elm or me.

"S-sorry." he stammered, before explaining.
"We got into a little fight with shadow. . . and it got knocked over. This, in turn made the loco explode due to overheating bits on the inside. I managed to focus the explosion onto the man that knocked it over though." he said a little sheepishly.
"But now it is going to help us again. Raw material for armor and such." he says, smiling a little.

That's nice... Carol nodded blankely. Oh, uh, right... do you need help with that? He grinned nervously. Sorry, I fazed out for a second.

"Not really." he said, the old tender coupling to the back of the coach, the frame and what was left of the locomotive still attached to the drawbar, ready to be hauled over into town, to where the magitech things lay.

"You'll see." Allen said simply, as the train started to roll slowly towards the town, that had the magiteck things that they had left there.

Carol boarded as Allen pushed the train forward. He did not say word, so the rest of the trip was also quite quiet. During the few hours to get to the port town, evening had shifted into early night. Arriving at the town, the sun was just over the horizon--that is setting.

At the gate, two human guards welcomed Allen and Wish back into the port and explained that Merissa had put the magitech scraps into the storage building. The building that hid the train while Allen and Friday worked on it.

Allen left the train sticking it's front just a bit out of the building, so the smoke would not collect as they slept, yawning as he clambered into the coach, and into the bed, next to Wish, before falling asleep.

That night, all slept well. Three days of battles in a row. The only progress Allen and group made didn't seem to help in the end. They killed a leader of Shadow, but now they have generic soldiers were more power than that leader.

The next morning, Allen and Friday began work on the train. Wish and Carol helped intermittently, but Elm rested for awhile. The process of upgrading the train required two weeks of time, but the final product proved to be quite the improvement.

As intended, the metal from the old locomotive was used to plate the new locomotive and the cab; in addition, and they removed all previous damage to the three cars. The old tender became a flat car. From this point on, Allen and Friday weaponized the vehicle. With some magitech, a number of human inventions, and a lot of Friday ingenuity, a slow firing machine gun was created. Four of these were mounted--two on each side--on the coach. They made simple racks below the mounting spots of the weapons, so, outside of battle, the guns had a convenient storing place. In addition to invented guns, a human cannon was placed on the train-gone-flat-car. Merissa convinced her fellow soldiers to let Allen indefinately "borrow" the cannon. A special turret held the cannon in place. Thick armor covered the outside of the turret, and, despite the heavy weight, the rotatable platform allowed the emplacement to spin easily--even if slowly. Moreover, a coaxial machine gun was equiped next to the cannon. Humorously, Friday placed a string on the trigger of the small weapon. In case someone wanted to fire the weapon, he could merely pull the string.

After the two weeks, the group of five talked about what to do next. After some major debate with Carol, they decided to keep Elm in the group. Fortunately, she had fully recovered from her injuries, minus a few mediocure scars. As well, they agreed to try to fight Shadow and Hadred through insurgency--that is convincing any and all to fight against those two foes. After finishing their meeting, Allen discussed their future actions with Merissa. She acknowledge the decision but could not guarantee any direct help from the port town's people. Most of the soldiers there were previous Shadow members. So, no help from those humans...

The next day they would leave the port town to look for any help they could find.

~~~~~
Meanwhile...
The city of Hadred--the place for which the entire kingdom is name--held thousands of inhabitans. Last year, they were almost exclusively human. Now, the population has doubled from the mass influx of Leison and Troll slaves. Ashrin and Dragons also appeared much more commonly inside.
Thirty foot walls surrounded the three square mile home. Inspite of the huge advances in technology, the walls were still made of pure stone. Though, five foot thick walls rarely needed to be replaced or improved. Five large gates and two smaller proved to be the only entrances and exits. The large gates were guarded by an array of human weaponry and weaponized Ashrin. Dragons kept the sky clear and watched in the distance for any intruders. Few Leison and Trolls stuck around in the midst, providing for an addition mix of defense and more protection.
The trademark of Hadred... "skycrapers." Well, most viewed two and a half story buildings as huge. They filled the majority of the city, providing residents with housing and a place to set up shop. Several other buildings--especially the gigantic castle at the center--owned some more height. Currently, the record is forty-five feet--the peak of the castle. Though, the humans added new structures to their city and coined the term "factory." The shortest, yet widest building in the entire city. Human slavemasters worked the servile Leison and Trolls at these places.
In one, the first group of slaves worked their tails off. Sthrain, a Forest Troll, manufactured a certain piece on a special conveyor belt--another human invention. Although, the belt itself was powered manually through more slave power. The slaves ate reasonably and rarely suffered torture; however, any that disobeyed the order of a taskmaster suffered torture until death. Simply, a slave followed order with decent happiness.
"I hate this..." Sthrain grumbled to himself. His village had been ravished completely. His parents killed and his wife taken away. Fortunately, he did not have any kids to lose. Only five days in the slave works, and he already despised it utterly.
Foone was in a different section of the same factory, one of the people putting the finished products into boxes for the humans to use. It was boring, tedious work, but it wasn't too hard.
She found her thoughts wandering to Sthrain often, hoping that he was alright. She had leison on either side of her, since she was in the leison section of the factory. It wasn't anything odd, she was a leison herself. It was why she had been seperated from her husband in the first place.
Sthrain and Foone worked for the next few hours, performing the same wretched action again and again. Bad enough they had to work on this stuff, but the Humans forced them to give an magic and magitech knowledge they had.
Finally, the long day had come to an end. The seperate couple were driven each to their own locations. Although, unlike usual, Foone caught a glimpse of the group of Trolls two corridors down. Maybe Sthrain was over there... maybe one of them could bring her to Sthrain. If she didn't catch them now, they would vanish into their own areas. One problem: several Human guards stood between her and the group of Trolls. Would that let her by if she asked? Or could she sneak by?
Foone started to come purposefully towards the Trolls, almost trying to ignore the human guards.
At first, she seemed to get by without a problem. She passed the guards guiding her group. They probably assumed she left something behind and went to go pick it up. No other humans stopped her... until she reached the Trolls.
"Hey you!" A Human walked up to her. He carried a handgun--another recent invention of the Humans. "What are you doing here?" At that instant, another two Humans noticed her and walked over. Also armed.
"I-I dropped some of my things at my station, I need to get past to get it." she said, seemingly frightened by the handguns, as she should have been.
She looked past the guards, though, towards the Troll group, to try and see if she could see her husband.
Some of the Trolls had already left the gate, but she managed to get the glimpse... Sthrain was just about to leave the building with some other Trolls.
The Humans looked at Foone with some suspicion. "Well, as long as you don't disrupt the business here or try to escape, I'll let you by... we'll be watching you." He stepped to the side.
She quickly, purposefully strode past the guards and shoved a folded note into one of the male troll's hand. She whispered in his ear "Can you get this to Sthrain?" before going through and towards where her station was on the line, to keep up appearances.
Afterwards, Sthrain and Foone, along with their gropus, returned to their quarters. Their dinner was served to them.
While Sthrain sat on his bed, the one male Troll handed the note to Sthrain. "Some Leison told me to give this to you."
"Huh? Leison?" Sthrain took the note and eyed it carefully. The other Troll walked off to grab his food. "Foone?" He opened it up to see what was written.
The note had this scrawled in it:
Dear Sthrain, its me Foone. I'm fine, you don't have to worry. I'm just near the end of the line and with the other Leison. I hope you are doing well too, but I miss you so much. Maybe we could meet somewhere, I don't know, try and figure something out?
Your loving wife, Foone.
After the note's writing was finished, there seemed to be a kiss mark on the paper.
"Oh. Whew..." He gave a sigh of relief and plopped the note in his pocket.
The next day, during work, he placed a note of his own with one of the pieces. The letters "For Foone" were clearly written on the outside. The note reached Foone a few minutes later without any complications.
At dinner time, she got the chance to read the note.
Sthrain, back in his place, began to discuss a few ideas with the other Trolls. He explained to them what his situation was and what he planned to do.
"Hey Love." The note addressed. "I'm glad to hear that you are all right. I was terribly worried. I am well. I will talk to the other Trolls about getting together. Expect another note." At the end, she saw his special signature.
During work the next day, another note came by. "For Foone: Urgent," she read on the note. She was probably supposed to read this one right away.
The note read: "Hide under the conveyor belt after work is over. After your group has left, follow the directions." A scribbled map sat below the writing a couple arrows led her around the factory. Guard locations were circled and areas to avoid them had "x"s over them.
